    Lord give us the power to escape the love of safety and comfort so we can change the world in your name and for your glory nothing else should give us greater joy

    Just had a bit of a lightbulb moment with that parachute illustration. This is less about escaping the love of comfort and safety than it is about finding true comfort and safety in the only place it can be found - in God and his promises.
    The version of earthly comfort and safety we've become entangled in is a false hope and can prevent us from fully submitting to God's calling. Submitting ourselves to God will have us doing things that are risky and uncomfortable from an earthly perspective but it's ultimately the safest place for us in the world, from an eternal perspective.

    I think John Piper is right that the more we are focusing on the glories of what is coming our way after death, the more we will be free to do good on earth.

    Thanks, that was just what I needed. I tend to look back to my past life and the security I felt and tried to replicate this all the time. I especially had a problem with video games and addiction to them. So this was a reminder were my true security and comfort comes from

    My wife constantly watches Kat Kerr on Elijah List who talks about the indescribable beauties of heaven, and I also listen to NDE’s where people discuss the incredible realm of Heaven… knowing that eternity there with God and the Saints will be our destination helps me get through this crazy life and suffering on this planet. It is just a light and momentary experience here as Paul states.

    I know we’re not saved by works but I mean, fighting against sin and for me lusts and porn is my biggest challenge. We don’t want to sin, I fight it, I try to ignore it, I pray about it and then I fall for the temptation 3 times in a day and 3 times in a row. I struggle so much and this is impacting my psychological life, because I get so impacted when I do it that I loose my will to take up the Bible. Because I’m ashamed, I’m not sad about it which scares me, but I can’t do it and pick up the Bible afterwards. I look at myself as weak and the lowest of the low of you all. I really mean it, I’m such a shameful Christian and I am so sorry Jesus, I don’t know why I am like this.

      Praying for the Holy Spirit to empower you to go to something else (a hobby, an accountability friend, the Word) in the moments you’re tempted 🙏🏻💪🏻

      Hey mate, Just wanted to give you a few words of comfort that helped and still helps me concerning addiction to porn. God loves you even when you doing it. Yes, He doesn't like your action of watching porn, but He Loves you. "Though the mountains be shaken and the hills be removed, yet my unfailing love for you will not be shaken nor my covenant of peace be removed,” says the LORD, who has compassion on you." Isiah 54:10 please keep this in mind, It will strengthen you. Secondly remember God hasn't given you the spirit of fear but of power, love and sound mind. addiction is not a spirit of love or power, it is one of powerlessness. so what I do when I get the urge is to say "Lord I hand over this feelings to you and I take in your power and love and sound mind." And I repeat the verse of Him not giving us the spirit of fear to remind myself of what spirit He has given me. In a few days time I will be three years free from addiction to porn, and all this I am sharing with you was how He helped me. Most importantly keep your eyes on God and keep praying that He renews your heart and mind in Him. If God saw me through it, I am sure He will 100% see you through. And you will pass through to other side of this journey having a closer relationship with Him. So even when you stumble and watch it, run back to him and ask for forgiveness. Ask for forgiveness 100-200 times a day if you have too, but don't give up because He hasn't given up on you.

      you dont have to fix yourself before God. draw closer to him say to God i cant fight this on my own. but you can. and youll see change. i tried fighting lust and i never beat it. only when i drawed closer to God with all my heart and trusted him was i free

      Someone said we are not sinners because we sin, we sin because we are sinners. There is no shame in asking for forgiveness… no matter how many times a day. When I first began chasing after Jesus, I would always ask Jesus to answer the door for me whenever confronted with temptation. It helped me to redirect my focus back to Him… I’d worship Him, I’d pray, I’d read or listen to the Bible and temptation would flee. These things brought me closer to God in many ways and helped me get through. I hope this helps 🕊👑

      James Tanny - the disciple James writes that faith without works is dead. We are commanded to repent; i.e. turn away from our sin to the best of our ability. Jesus clearly commended Zaccheus who tried to put things as right as he could by giving back to those he had stolen from. "Salvation has entered this man's home". Some of the advice here about getting accountability is very good, covenant eyes is a good start as it is a piece of software that takes screenshots of your online activity and sends them to your accountability partner, flagging anything up that is dodgy. It is far from foolproof but worth looking into. I will ask you some questions about your temptations (obviously I understand if you don't want to answer them, as it is very personal, and I am just some guy on RUclips). Have you certain fetishes that you've managed to get into? If so, do you find yourself fantasising about these things during the day? As for prayer - what kind of prayers are you praying? Is there anything at all you have found helpful at any point? Confession - have you talked this over with your pastor/minister? Have you found a group of guys who you can tell specific sins to who you can then contact when you feel especially tempted? I did a course called click 2 kick which is run by "the naked truth". Some of the stuff in the course was stuff i knew bit the main thing I got from it is still regularly contacting guys in that group, begging them for intercession when I am especially tempted. I am asking all of this as someone who confessed all this out of the blue to his wife April 28th last year. I knew that those who practice sexual immorality and who have a lifestyle of lying will not enter the kingdom of heaven. It was a choice between potentially losing my wife and child and being assured of God's forgiveness, or of keeping up a double life and entering hell. I got into masturbation and lingerie catalogues and the like at 14, then later fetished porn. I am now 28. I wasted almost half my life with that stuff. Was it fun? Hell yes it was. I enjoyed it. But it is evil. My Lord knows it's evil. I know it's evil.. and it is so difficult today, I have a particular issue of keeping my eyes to myself when women walk along the street in the tightest pants (trousers), known to man, showing every jiggle of their butts and hips. But my Lord wants me to be a man of chastity, committed to loving, activally, my wife and my daughter (now another child on the way, Praise the Lord!!!). I guess my point is, you need both your own personal committment, and you also need practical Christian help. The Lord will not be mocked, but he also wants to be your Father, and wants to forgive you. Sorry this is very rambly, but I hope it's of some help.

    A mighty Fortress is our God,
    A Bulwark never failing;
    Our Helper He amid the flood
    Of mortal ills prevailing:
    For still our ancient foe
    Doth seek to work us woe;
    His craft and power are great,
    And, armed with cruel hate,
    On earth is not his equal.
    Did we in our own strength confide,
    Our striving would be losing;
    Were not the right Man on our side,
    The Man of God’s own choosing:
    Dost ask who that may be?
    Christ Jesus, it is He;
    Lord Sabaoth His Name,
    From age to age the same,
    And He must win the battle.
    And though this world, with devils filled,
    Should threaten to undo us,
    We will not fear, for God hath willed
    His truth to triumph through us:
    The Prince of Darkness grim,
    We tremble not for him;
    His rage we can endure,
    For lo! his doom is sure,
    One little word shall fell him.
    That word above all earthly powers,
    No thanks to them, abideth;
    The Spirit and the gifts are ours
    Through Him who with us sideth:
    Let goods and kindred go,
    This mortal life also;
    The body they may kill:
    God’s truth abideth still,
    His Kingdom is forever.

    “Baxter explained Christ's death as an act of universal redemption (penal and vicarious, though substitutionary in explication), in virtue of which God has made a new covenant offering pardon and amnesty to the penitent. Repentance and faith, being obedient to this covenant, are the conditions of salvation.
    Baxter insisted that the Calvinists of his day ran the danger of ignoring the conditions that came with God's new covenant. Justification, Baxter insisted, required at least some degree of faith as the human response to the love of God. (From Wikipedia)” Agree with REV. Richard Baxter.
    I have similar vision:"What an amazing grace being justified by faith.
    因信称义的人何等蒙恩! How blessed we are working by the faith of CHRIST. 因信行义的人何等蒙福!"

    Richard Baxter said and wrote a lot of helpful things, though he was a bit controversial with his rejection of limited atonement in favour of universal atonement.

    I've been wondering why it's ok for us Christian's today to be so rediculously comfortable when none of the founding fathers of Christianity were....that ik of. I'd love to be wrong though. I'm terrified that if I jump off the cliff so to speak that I will end up a homeless person holding a John 3:16 sign on the side of the road...I just feel like we are not doing something right when most of us are so incredibly wealthy compared to Jesus and Paul and all of them.

    How do you set yourself on the things of heaven without using that as a way to escape the reality your living in? We still live in the real world and have to go through the long years of life before we even get to heaven. This can lead to wishing life to be short so we can just get to heaven, which I think defeats the purpose of the whole exercise
