  • @peterbaek9059

    Anybody who pays $200K+ for a new Z06 is a fool. When you get up to that territory, you can get a real exotic like a used 458 or a used Huracan. The real reason why you get a Z06 is that it's the "reasonably affordable" alternative to an exotic. If you end up paying a stupidly-high markup, that advantage goes out the window.

      Thats not the point at all. Our government is trying to crush everyone. If you happen to live in the states would you like to pay 13% on everything you buy or every service you get like a mechanic or a plumber? I think not. Doesn't matter how much money a person has here in Canada. We are ALL taxed.

    • @RobertMacCready
      @RobertMacCready  Год назад +1

      Depends where you live. In a state like Montana you DON'T have a sales tax on cars. Here in FL the tax is 7%. Do the math...7% of say $130,000 is $9,100. NOW, you need to figure out if you should trade in your car or sell it outright. If you trade in your car you only pay the tax on the difference between the price of the new car and your trade. So, lets say you got (lets keep it simple) $100,000 for your trade. Now your only paying tax on $30,000 not 130,000. If you sell your car to a private owner, then, when you buy your new car you pay the FULL sales tax.

    What struck a chord with me, was your #2 & 7 reasons, looks and uncertainty. I have always felt the C5 through C7 Z06 looked so much better than the standard Corvette, so much so, I'd really not consider anything less. With the C8, my feelings are different. While side by side, I'm confident the Z06 will look considerably more aggressive, I don't feel like it's a big enough difference to deter me from the standard C8 on looks alone. With the performance of the C8 being quite exceptional, it's that much harder to justify the additional cost of the Z06. There's a good chance that 5.5 liter FPC engine will be just fine, but what if it's long term prognosis isn't all that great?

      How is the performance of the Z06 compared to earlier C8 models?

    I have a C6 Z06 and Callaway C7 Z06 in my garage and I track them both. C6Z is on its second motor and C7Z runs hot on track even with upgraded GM radiator (mine is A8). I will get a C8Z in second year provided the testing proves it’s reliable on track

    Yes, the Z06 is a track car and for the 95% of Corvette buyers who never track their cars, the Z06 is little more than a status symbol or the base for more videos on RUclips. Since max power is made at high rpms, I wonder if it will actually me more responsive in daily driving. On the other hand it takes the C8 to a whole new level placing it squarely in the company of true supercars and in that company it is an incredible bargain. A base 1LT/Z51 with mag ride is @ $75K. The standard wheels are better than anything on the base car so add another $1k, so premium is @ $30k - $33k with gas guzzler tax. If the base car had a 670 hp option upgrade, how much would buyers be willing to pay. I'm guessing a lot. If Ferrari built the same car, it would probably start at $225k so when you change the frame of reference, the Z06 at MSRP is a steal. Add $50k markup and you start having second thoughts.

    • @JsBlazIN
      @JsBlazIN Год назад

      Just the sound alone of that car is worth the premium. Unfortunately you can't just buy an after market exhaust for the stingray to make it sound like the new z06. It really is in a league of its own sounding like that. Sounds like the old ferraris which don't sound like that either anymore.

    I love when the "souped up" version of a car has noticeable differences that separates it from the base level. Case in point, my favorite era of cars was the LS1 Firebird/Camaro's. You could immediately tell the care behind you was the V8 LS1 Firebird Trans Am when you look in your rear view mirror and you see the giant nostrils in the hood. To this day that still looks menacing. I wish these C8 Z06's would do something noticeably different to make it stand out more so when someone sees it they are like "Oh yeah, that is a Z06!"

    Not to sound like a know it all but from what my friends are telling me is that no one needs ceramic brakes for day to day use. Ceramic brakes are made to perform best when constantly hot from track use. Every super car owner I know says regular traditional brakes are better and faster responding in almost any street use scenario. Save the money. Ceramic brakes are a scam.

    Robert, being that the Z06 is very likely the first and last flat plane crank GM ever makes. It is also the highest horsepower normally aspirated Corvette ever made and last it's possibly the last internal combustion engine Corvette ever makes. It's pretty obvious this car is going to appreciate astronomically. Yes don't sell it for 12 months but after that the car will be an investment in my opinion.
    The other thing is have you priced a top of the line Cadillac Escalade $150,000, or a loaded diesel pickup truck, top of the line is over $100,000 and as soon as you pull them off the showroom floor their value plummets, but they are everywhere.
    That's a very nice base C8 Corvette with the Z51 package that you have.

      2023 C8 Z06 has less torque than a $60K C8 Stingray with LT2,
      so look for some ass kicking to Z06 on some type of race formats.
      What will be excuses be when C6/7 Z06 and ZR1 stomp on C8 Z06 ?
      Screw the flippers, as they will not really drive those Z06s and will give it a bad name and ruin the car's worth, same as happened to the C4 ZR-1 and those flippers for investment
      as they were never raced and GM said, why make them if they are not being marketed for what they were designed for

    I worked at Chevy Engineering. They treat the public like they treat their employees.
    Dealers are marking up the Z06 to astronomic levels. Why? because they can. What the market will bear. There are multimillionaires out there that $200K isn't too much to pay for the best Corvette. Because they can which takes it off the table for the non-millionaire.
    If you guys knew as much about automotive engineering as I do, you wouldn't buy a GM car or any Corvette. I grew up in the industry and my father worked for Chevrolet as well.
    When getting into the $150K range, Porsche is a better car. For luxury cars, Lexus makes a better can than GM could ever conceive.
    A last note. GM could penalize their dealers for marking Corvettes up. They give them free reign and let them f_ck the customer they care nothing about. Customers are fish in the sea and suckers in the eyes of GM management.
    People that want a Z06 are more poseurs than real car guys anyway.
    A real car guy will buy a high miles base C7 with a manual transmission, pull the engine in his garage, build it to 1000hp, add track suspension, wheels, tires, brakes and run circles around the new Z06 for under $100K.

      The C8 stingray price loaded is no bargain. It’s almost as much as a Z06. The loaded stingray is a nice car that’s fast out of the hole. After that the muscle cars like the GT500 take it. The stingray is the ride to the country club. The ZO6 is ride to Italy.

    I've been working with a local dealer here in Florida and they want to charge me $50,000 over MSRP, while discussing the purchase with the dealer I was informed that if Chevrolet raises the price of the Z06 while I am waiting on their list I would be charged the additional increase. The zo6 that I have built is over 165,000 Plus $3,000 gas tax plus 7% sales tax Plus $50,000 dealer increase and if the car goes up in price between now and the time the order is placed I would be responsible for the difference or the additional cost. This sounds like total greed to me. At this point I am probably going to put the brakes on purchasing the new Z06, and I did not mention the constraints I was also informed that a lot of the items that I want on my build will not be available such as the big carbon fiber wing and a few other items. I was willing to pay over MSRP, but 50,000 and that will not guarantee or lock in the price of my car if GM decides to raise the price during production. Not looking good for GM right now. I totally agree with you, I think the cost of the new Corvettes has gotten so ridiculous. One of the greatest things about the Corvette is they were the “every man’s” sports car, now they are being priced far out of reach for many to obtain. I almost bought one when you could still get a new one for around $80k now they are about double that with the “dealer MSRP tax”.
    So I already decided I am going to buy an older C5 Zo6 put a supercharger, intake, cam, forged rods/pistons, headers with muffler delete exhaust and upgrade the injectors/fuel system, the parts will run about $12-$13k and the engine will make 650+ hp to the rear wheels.
    If I decide I want to go really crazy I can buy the carbon fiber body panels for another $10k and I can throw in some lighter racing seats and wheels, headlight inserts, remove the springs and upgrade the suspension for $4-$5k and easily cut 400 lbs off the car.
    A nice factory C5 Zo6 with low miles on it will only set you back $20-$25k they weigh 3,125 lbs with the weight reduction if I add the quarter cage for safety your looking at a car that will only weigh about 2,800 lbs and have over 750 hp with the performance mods. All in all if I do most of the easy stuff myself I’ll have less than $50 grand out of pocket for a street legal race car that is reliable and can be daily driven.
    If you can find one, and you really want to spend 3 to 4 times the amount of money to buy the new 2023 C8 Zo6 with 670 hp and has a 3,535 to 3,637 lbs curb weight depending on the trim package I’ll be sure to wave when I pass you 😅

    The ENTIRE C8 rollout has been the WORST new car introduction in the history of GM and they just keep making it worse. Did it ever occur to GM to perhaps start making s!$&t themselves?!! They’d be in control of quality, control of production volume, control of changes, etc. what a concept! Old Henry Ford and the Dodge brothers must be rolling over in their graves with how US auto production has fallen slave to foreign suppliers.🥺

    - most powerful naturally aspirated v8 ever. Rev-8,600 rpm a sound like no other American car. It’s truly an American Ferrari.
    -there are some hot laps out go watch.
    -I knew the corvette community would be hating on the zo6.
    I agree they shouldn’t be so hard to get.
    And they shouldn’t be marked up like they are.
    First press car is finally in the US more content to come.

    So far, very satisfied with my 2LT 2023 Stingray!

    • @RobertMacCready
      @RobertMacCready  2 года назад +1

      I don't use anything on the interior accept maybe a damp cloth. On the sides of the engine compartment, I tried some sprays and they were terrible. The only thing that worked for me was Adam's Hand Polish. It's a blue polish and I have about 3 coats applied. So, if you do 2 or 3 coats, it takes the "eyes" off the area!!!

Not to mention the flat plane crank engines vibrate like old Harleys and the engines don't last long, so I've read. I think I'd rather have 2 Stingrays!!

    I fell in love with Corvettes when I was young and they came out with the C5 Z06. I’ve wanted to own one ever since. I still can’t afford a Z06, I’ll just have to make due with my C5 Vert, but I do have goals to own a C8 Z06 one day! Hopefully you’ve convinced everybody to not buy one so I can afford one! 😂

  • @JacesOwnWorld

    I am glad I came across your video. I 100% agree with you. What happened to the pricing? A buyer could buy a C7 Z06 for under $100k brand new. Literally. ow the C8 Z06 is well over $100k, and with dealer markups, will be over $200k easy. What happened? I'm sorry, but a few years in-between a generation does not make the new Z06 model sell for over double what its previous generation was! It just doesn't! That never happened before with each gen Z06 model. Why does is dictate now? Also, the new Z06 looks so plain and dull to me compared to the regular C8 Vette. There just isn't much of a difference in styling to say "check out my Z06" like there was with the C7 and C6 generations. The new Z06 is a better performer. Cool. But when a regular C8 Vette already performs extremely well, why doe that even matter anymore?
    Just liked and subscribed bud. I am 40 years old, so just a couple years younger than you haha, but my car enthusiast ideology is directly in line with yours. You keep it real, which I like. You don't get the same realness (if that's even a word) with the younger generation of car enthusiasts. They just hype up everything for no reason, just to get "views".

      I agree. Chevy dropped the ball with the exterior styling for the entire rear end of the car period! I purchased a c7 zo6 during A period of time when chevy made sure to limit the amount of orders it allowed dealers to make and they stopped taking orders for them and i still found one brand new out of state with no mark up from macmulkin. Chevy and the dealerships are both responsible for the price hikes. Its not just the dealership. They're not pumping them out fast enough from the factory and for reasons other than chip shortages.
