HOW!?! I have been applying so much pressure to this stupid tensioner I'm 6ft6 300 lbs standing on the bumper and breaker bar and still can't apply enough pressure to stop the stupid pully from spinning
I made a pulley holding tool in about 10 minutes. About 16" long piece of flat steel and drilled 2 holes for 2 bolts 3" apart(on centre) from each other. Worked great from first try.
So if the person I bought my 08 dodge caravan from didn't put in the right fit fan too my car and its messing w my battery to the point it jults and sometimes doesn't start its fine when I get a new battery but after 6 months I start having issues n I think its the fan but idk what part to get or how to replace it
I don't know for certain since different vehicles are designed differently. If you have the Air Conditioner on then I assume it spins since this vehicle doesn't have a separate fan. Normally there are 2, or more, sensors in the cooling system. One for your engine temperature gauge in the instrument panel (aka gauge cluster) and another for the fan switch. The temp sensor for the fan switch could be broken and sending a false signal to turn on the fan switch (aka fan relay). or the fan switch itself could have failed where the relay is stuck shut then it will run instantly. To test the sensor then unplug it and see if it stops. If it doesn't stop then you just need to unplug the fan switch to see if it stops. If you're pretty sure you've narrowed it down to a temp sensor for the fan switch then you can test it with a multimeter when it's cold and see if the reading is similar to when it is hot. Good luck
if spins after you turn off engine it a bad fan cltch, to be sure start the engine if blade is turning slow no matter how much gas you give it a bad fan clutch..
Total job was less than 10 minutes, thanks to you. One more ultra helpful tip to stop the belt. Lock a vice grip on water pump pulley and let it sit against the natural bolt.
Using a ratchet to put tension on the belt doesn't work for an 03 dodge ram 1500 3.7L since it doesn't have a normal belt tensioner wheel. In all cases, do it the "correct way" with a fan clutch wrench. Use a fan clutch wrench to stop the wheel from turning while you are trying to loosen the fan clutch. It's easy and won't cost you anything. You can use a loaner from an auto parts store for free, just put down a deposit which they return to you when you return the loaner. You can see videos of people using bolts, etc, in the holes of the wheel. That's BS that will only get you bloody knuckles.
Nah! Won't work on a V6 2008 Dodge Ram. Can't hold the fan tensioner and turn the pipe wrench. All it does is move the belt. Sigh............ What to do what to do! I suppose a piece of metal with screws like others have commented.
That fan clutch was already loose before, 5.7 im working on is super tight even with the proper fan clutch removal tools, propane torch, hammer and a long wrench. Still won't come off
He put it on the belt tensioner to apply more tension on the serpentine belt that way the water pump pulley is less likely to slip on the belt which makes it easier to get the nut for the fan off the water pump pulley
This was very helpful, but I have a question. I am needing to replace the fan clutch on my 2007 Dodge Durango 5.7L Hemi. Currently sounds like a jet engine when it is fired up. My question is this: Several parts are available, some normal thread, some reverse. Is the 2007 a reverse thread? Or a normal thread? I am ordering the part online and would like to avoid needing to send it back and wait if possible (having one vehicle and two working adults with 4 kids is starting to get old). Thank you in advance.
Ummm, wow I wish… 😂😖 08 Power Wagon and zero rust or corrosion (like on this one in video) One advantage to living in north Texas, it seems But so far did this NOTHING PUT KNOCKR LOOSE ON NOTHING HELD PULLY WITH VISE GRIPS (something) I BENT THE PULLY FINALLY AIR HAMMER AND IT DECIDED TO COME OFF I GUESS INCREDIBLE HULK ASSEMBLED IT … Anyway… air hammer on down turn side and after a few taps it started moving… Let’s hope the hard part is now over I watched the video to see if it was left handed threads to make sure… Good luck everyone… ug 😖😝

pro trick: watch series at KaldroStream. Been using it for watching loads of movies lately.
Never ever in history has a fan clutch come off that easy

Can u post a video or pics of the method?
I appreciate that at the end he hit the wrench 7 times lol my OCD makes me do things 7 times so counting it felt great😂
Thanks!
Best demo. Simple and understandable, thank you.
In this video it shows the pulley moving as he’s tightening the fan so I’m assuming the fan doesn’t need to be super tight?
So if the person I bought my 08 dodge caravan from didn't put in the right fit fan too my car and its messing w my battery to the point it jults and sometimes doesn't start its fine when I get a new battery but after 6 months I start having issues n I think its the fan but idk what part to get or how to replace it
bullcrap that nut was previously lose quit it...lol
+Ed Cuddy Thanks for watching. Hope this helped you out. Have a great day! 1aauto.com
Yea this guy is absolute joke that bolt was definitely loose beforehand thats why his crackhead ass didnt disagree with you. Dudes a fuckin bitch
I tried using this method but it doesn't make the belt any tighter and it just spins
I say
is there a reason why some fans have uneven fan blade spacing like this?
I believe it has to do with harmonics, which would create undue noise and vibration.
My fan never stops running as long as the car is on. As soon as I turn on the cold engine it's running. Is this because if a bad clutch?

3 - 13mm bolts to remove fan, BUT 4- 13mm bolts to install Fan!!!🤔🤔🤔😂😂.... That's a good one
There are small holes in the pulley. I stuck a small punch in and let it stop the pulley from moving. Worked pretty good on a tight bolt
+graham davidson Thanks for the tip!
Best video I've seen, no need to disconnect hoses and shroud👍👍
Total job was less than 10 minutes, thanks to you. One more ultra helpful tip to stop the belt. Lock a vice grip on water pump pulley and let it sit against the natural bolt.
yes but isn't there a correct way to install the clutch to the fan or can it go either way isn't that important to mention?

how did you keep the water pump pulley from moving. does the nut need to be real tight? (the nut can only go so far right)?
+Ernst Hin You may want to place a pry bar on the pulley to prevent it from turning. Hope this helps you out. 1aauto.com
Vice grip the water pump pulley on top, it will rest against a preexisting bolt perfectly
That fan clutch was already loose before, 5.7 im working on is super tight even with the proper fan clutch removal tools, propane torch, hammer and a long wrench. Still won't come off
Jursaw any tips, still having trouble with mine?
I have a 1997 Ford Aspen trying to change AC belt and put a alternator belt on how do you do that
+Edward BAPTISTE We do not have a video for this repair right now, but we'll keep this request in mind for a future video! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Is There any upgrade for the fan baldes???? Stock are too noisy
noise is good in this case , the more noise equals more air moving through radiator., better cooling.
As always, great work boys.
+HTX Badger Thanks for checking us out! 1aau.to/m/Shop-1AAuto-c
Outstanding video
What should I do when I make my belt tight to not spin the water pump the whole motor spins over
+Adam Thornton Great question! Search our video library for more on this vehicle: 1aau.to/m/video-library-c
where did you exactly put that 3/8 wrench?
He put it on the belt tensioner to apply more tension on the serpentine belt that way the water pump pulley is less likely to slip on the belt which makes it easier to get the nut for the fan off the water pump pulley
I had a hard time loosening the nut this way so i used a hammer and long chisel and i was able to loosen the nut!!!
how many foot pounds per sledge tap?
Great! How difficult is it to remove fan pulley? The bearing needs to be replaced.
+Dmitr B Thank you for watching. It is not difficult if you are able to obtain/borrow the specialized puller from a local auto part store. 1aauto.com

What is max cooling and do I have it?
Good demonstration thanks
Hit it with a hammer.. really informative.. not! Just wanted to see which way fan clutch spins. Get rid of ads too!
Ummm, wow I wish… 😂😖
08 Power Wagon and zero rust or corrosion (like on this one in video)
One advantage to living in north Texas, it seems
But so far did this NOTHING
PUT KNOCKR LOOSE ON NOTHING
HELD PULLY WITH VISE GRIPS (something) I BENT THE PULLY
FINALLY AIR HAMMER AND IT DECIDED TO COME OFF
I GUESS INCREDIBLE HULK ASSEMBLED IT …
Anyway… air hammer on down turn side and after a few taps it started moving…
Let’s hope the hard part is now over
I watched the video to see if it was left handed threads to make sure…

Remove the 3 13mm bolts and install the 4 13mm bolts!!! 🤔 Great video by the way!!
Good Video helped me with my 2002 Dodge Ram V6. I used a clutch pully holding tool and a pipe wrench. I had to remove the carb. air Intake.
+Matthew Gonzalez Thanks for checking us out!
Mines stuck that didn’t work
dont work for a 02 ram 1500 5.9l gas
Soo what about the electrical connector for the fan clutch?
You for sure loosened that nut before making this video didnt you 😂😂😂
GOT A 06 and this does not work.
Can't do that on a 4.7
best video
Don't listen to this guy. Your gonna spend money and be lost on how it doesn't work
Does not work on a cummins lol
Don’t waste ur time this method does not work.
+victor hernandez We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair.
Yeah mine is not close to being this easy
+teeweezy75 Thanks for the feedback!
Yeah just give it a little tap haha
