- A good friend... @Thrust83 had a theory (as did I), that installing a downpipe on a #GRCorolla did not need to entail dropping driveshafts, removing heatshields, or cutting any metal.

Matter fact, we thought it should be MUCH easier than any video we saw on RUclips... and we were right.

Outside of the main reason for this video, which is installing a new downpipe from @LTKTW, the method I accomplished is almost the real highlight.
In other words, you don't need a lift; you only need some hand tools and about 1-3 hours tops.

The result of the new downpipe has been better throttle response, improved powerband delivery, and added horsepower... I'm not even tuned yet and I love it. The next step is a full exhaust and working towards a tuning solution.

Just did it in my apartment parking lot over the weekend on bmw 530. Was brutal but i have all the right tools and got it done lol.

That is a freaking awesome find! I feel that this revolutionary for modding the GR Corolla. I've seen a couple of videos of people trying to replace the downpipe from the bottom where they needed to remove the driveshaft, heatshields etc. Lots of work! Having plenty of access from the top makes changing downpipe, turbo etc very DIY doable!
I was in the same boat, every video had me thinking this was impossible in the driveway. This method is the easiest thing you can do, makes it so much better.

Hey man I just wanted to say that I installed my OTL downpipe/mid pipe combo through the top using this method and it worked great!

@@CarQuicks Yeah it was nice didn’t have to cut anything or remove the driveshaft or anything like that honestly if I’d have timed it probably 2-3 hours start to finish. If I did it again today probably just under 2 this really is the way to go about installing downpipes even if you do have a shop and lift!
Did you get a tune with that otl downpipe? CEL?
@@Eweazy-mh8gd My GRC is not a daily so I’ve put maybe 100 miles on it since I installed the OTL downpipe. With that being said I haven’t got a CEL and don’t expect to get one either seeing as it’s a catted down pipe.
I’m not tuned because there is still a plethora of parts that I want to install before getting it tuned.
You see all this you DONT NEED TO REMOVE THAT!!!!!! 😂

Great video bro, awesome explanation and instructions! This was the one thing stopping me from doing a DP but now I'm definitely gonna do it lol. I had removed the cowel but didn't know about the windshield motors so I left that metal bracket on but after seeing this its a piece of cake! Keep killing it my guy 🤙

if you look at the mounting points, the "cowl" is essentially an OEM strut bar
I actually argue against that. Yes the mounting point have some believing it acts like one, but if you take it off, you can bend that piece by hand. It’s thin stamped steel… I also bent mine accidentally leaning against it. Lol.
@@CarQuicks leave the cowl off & go for a drive, its pretty noticeable when its not installed. i agree its kind of flimsy on its own & may have room for improvement but when bolted into place in the car its doing something

Loving the videos . I was close to getting a circuit today 😢 they wanted 55k but offered a “heavy discount “ to 49k and kept asking what would get me to get it today. I decided to wait as I am betting on it will sit there for another month.
Doubtful. The next person will get it for 48k. You missed out

The dealer tried to sell me a '23 Core GRC with a nice Magnaflow exhaust for $43k @ 23k mileage. I said hell nah lol

I’m using a DJI OSMO Pocket 3 with DJI Mic (the first version).
I love this setup, easy, quick and small enough to fit in tight areas.
Apparently mst downpipe doesn’t add any power per Nemtec Racing . They said limit 1 and OTL make the best downpipes and they tested on the dyno. I wonder why?
So the MST downpipe, by itself will just bottle neck back into the stock midpipe, and for that reason I can see where you wouldn't see much gain. I run a 2J-Racing 3" midpipe, with the downpipe, so I've experienced a very nice change in power delivery, throttle response and power. Nemtec isn't wrong in their findings, if you only had the MST downpipe and nothing else you probably only see a gain high in the rev range and nothing more.
Isn’t the down stream O2 sensor supposed to screw into the bottom of the down pipe?
The second 02 sensor you may be referring to is on the midpipe. I did a video on the 2J-Racing Midpipe on my channel and you will see it attached on that video.
In your opinion would it be possible to install an aftermarket bov from the top?
Yes! This method opens up the back of the engine bay for everything turbo related. Intake installs, turbo inlet pipes, but especially a BOV.
Did you get a baseline of your performance on a Dyno first?
No, I didn't. I thought about it but there were enough videos online for me to get an overall idea of what these cars baseline. Also, I'm not really chasing a number per se, I'm more just getting back to the organic fun of changing parts, seeing what I feel and later down the line I'll most likely go standalone and do a nice conservative tune.
I didint drop the drive shaft I just kept messing with it till it slid out
That's another method too, the whole driveshaft dropping is something I was going to avoid!
