It’s nice to finally hear someone leave the stock exhaust while adding after market mid and down pipes. IMO I would really like to hear the same tone but slightly louder and with better flow. Willing to bet the current HKS and Apexi offerings will achieve that.
From what I have seen the Japanese brands are achieving that more conservative tone, but with the proper amount of flow. The hang up for some is always the price for those exhaust, but as you mentioned they hit the right tone for a lot of people.
@@CarQuicks Definitely agree with pricing for those exhausts! It’s pretty outrageous. I’m waiting to see what Invidia comes out with before pulling the trigger.
My personal thoughts you probably gained some power but the real bottleneck is the stock tune a exhaust isn’t going to change to much. You can do a ECUTEK tune and get over 300whp with zero mods. I have a SXTH intercooler only mod (also stock tune) it feel slightly better but I’m in hot Florida doesn’t heat soak as bad anymore. Eventually I’m doing a tune before any more mods. But very nice thanks for posting this downpipe.
Oh you are absolutely right about the tune. That will need to come soon. I have a few other things I want to t by row on and keep documenting how the car is changing… then tune it. I haven’t decided what voice to make, whether I spend the money and go full stand-alone(Motec or Syvecs) or go the ECUTEK route.
@CarQuicks are you going to upgrade valve springs and clutch anything over 330whp will start to float valves. Also check Speedlab performance he ran about 300 runs on dyno with stock clutch and tune. The clutch started to slip. However they were beating on it. (Video on you tube) Im waiting until my warranty is over and seeing everyone elses tunes and their reliability with different tunes.
Big thanks for the update! Are you worried about your warranty at all? Also, did MST include any fixes for a possible CEL?(For example someone got a P0420 after running a Downpipe without a tune, can’t quite find the post tho…).
One thing to know about the ECU in this car is that it learns changes and essentially decides to not like them. So, you will hear about some people experiencing different results on parts installed. I do feel that some of that is on the installer, so taking my time on what I am doing has helped. The downpipe has a provision for the 02 sensor, so unless they did not install that or ran a catless DP, I wouldn't see how it would throw a CEL. As for the intake, I was one of the rare few who didn't get a CEL (actually just one time testing a theory), but MST did send a V2 fix that I have a video on my channel of me installing. If you have an MST intake and do not have that fix, contact them directly and they will send one out, The warranty... well I decided I was going to have fun with the car. There are things I am comfortable doing that others may not. Also, I am at 29,000 miles so my 36,000-mile bumper to bumper will be gone in about 2-3 months. Now if the concern is the drivetrain warranty, then you can touch anything until about 100,000 miles.
Gotcha gotcha, thanks for the extra info. I wish I were as brave as you, I’m scarred from my 15 STI putting me through the wringer. More power to you, super happy to have you helping the community develop more familiarity with the platform. Cheers!
The P0420 code with an aftermarket CAT is usually due to the fact the the CAT warms up at a different rate than the stock CAT and it falls outside the parameters of the OEM so it throws a code. The same thing happens to me on my 2009 Corolla S that I turbocharged but I have a Scangauge2 in it so I can quickly clear it on the go since I know it's not a true issue.
I'm sub'd and I don't even have a GR yet...LOL! Sounds good, but as you said the bottle neck is your exhaust...it's like taking a deep breath and puckering your lips to let out the breath...need the even flow. I need to check out your diy vids on this and whatever else you got...lining up my ducks!
Now u need a tune. And coilovers. And new seats. My biggest issue being 6’3 with a long torso is that I sit way too high. Would love to sit like 2in lower. Any suggestions.
The seat situation is something I am currently looking to change as well, because I amt eh same height and want to sit lower. Coilovers and wheels are next, which ones I do not know. Tune is somewhere on the way, but I am waiting to see Link from Australia making a PnP ECU for our cars that they say will take another year for release. The ECUTek route is a bit unstable from the people I know with one, who don't have quick access to a tuner, which is the boat I would be in. So, I am still researching.
The intake made the most noticeable change to me, and that may in part to the sound changes too, but from a performance perspective you immediately will fell the differences there. The downpipe is second, though depending on the order of when you install these parts, they could swap in how they feel. The midpipe is more about sound, throttle response, as opposed to power adding.
Looking good. I have heard that the aftermarket exhaust systems don't really add HP, more just sound so I'm not sure you will get much from a different exhaust. And some exhaust systems actually got less HP so be careful! I'm looking at doing a downpipes/midpipe combo at some point too, just not sure which one yet.
You are correct, by themselves they are not doing anything, I think for my application its more an efficiency thing then adding more power. I still haven't made my own decision on the exhaust just yet.
Good video! Think im gonna wait for the Link as well and then go with a catless DP. Ive read the O2 foulers do not prevent the CEL from running a catless DP, and I also dont trust the infancy of the Ecutek development for this car yet.
I'm in the same boat about the tuning option, I am considering Ecutek having talked with a tuner who has performed a lot on GR Corollas and runs a test car for it. However, LINK is a very good option, but is probably about a year or so out.
You don’t have to in the state of Texas, but having ran cars without cats and well… I don’t care for the added fumes. Not that I know this car would be that, but it’s all preference.
Bad take. Unless you have a massive single turbo, the amount of flow and hp you'll be "missing out on" because it's not catless is negligible at best. The amount of shit you'll be putting out in the environment for 3-5 hp you'll never feel isn't worth it. I know some people don't care about that aspect of it, but if they're claiming it's for better power I hope they're ready to be laughed at.
HKS exhaust is great! Thanks for doing the leg work on this great work!
I'm happy it went as easy as it did or this video was never coming out hahaha

Glad to hear there is a improvement with just a bolt on.
Yes, there are a few you can do to this platform, not much, but a few that will give you an improvement over the stock components.
Been subscribed since the start 😏
That what I like to hear! Thanks!
Consistent fire 🔥
I appreciate the support!
Definitely sounds a. Little louder, just needs to be paired with the mid pipe and catback
I actually have a midpipe installed! The 2J-Racing one!

Nice upgrade 👍

sounds good
Funny this video made me appreciate it more! You can't hear these differences as much in the cabin.

What mod so far have you notice more improvement?

@@CarQuicks I'll be looking forward to see what you decide to do.
First!😁
Haha!
Aww, wanted to see a 0-60.
I did a small one, but this give me an idea for some future content!

IMO its a waste of money when you put a catted downpipe on a turbo car but every state regulations are different.
