Awesome waves. Great town too. The locals are cool people and have great food cheap.
Always thought Kelly was better on smaller medium waves but shows versatility that he can, ride big waves

No Kidding!Portugal probably is the Best spot to surf in Europe and one of the best spots in the world. The whole country is a Fabulous spot!

Damn the waves there are beautiful. I live down in Florida the biggest waves we get are only 7-8 ft on a good day. Surfing out of state with bigger waves Is like heaven

From late September to early May we have got perfect conditions aroud the portuguese coast. All you have to do is search the coastline and consult the weather charts.

With great respect to the film makers and the surfers... please please take off the rock sound track which accompanies so much great surfing footage and do 3 things: 1) let the natural sounds of the waves breaking be the main soundtrack.. and the environment, the odd snippets of conversation, the water lapping etc etc and 2) dont cut the rides so that they are crammed together like 'money shots' - you wont lose our interested if you show the end of the wave and the beginning much more with some quiet time in between.. let the film breathe.. show fewer rides .. but more in depth with voice over commentary from the rider afterwards as he sees the ride ( or the wipeout!) and also commentary from the jet ski buddy.. make their commentary specific to the shot..
So much of the sound track and cutting style of surfing footage follows the same dreadful cliche of ride after ride after ride, cut just as the guy wipes out or pulls out, the same rock music plastered over the soundtrack.. turns it all into one generic 'surf porn' vibe. The riders and the participants and assistants deserve more respect for this.
If one of you film makers out there understands what I am talking about and you could make a truly great totally original surf film - no one has ever done this have they?
PS ... Garrett you have a great example of this on your channel! - I just watched the clip 'November session' - that is exactly the basis of what I am talking about! No music just the sound of the sea and a beautiful quiet seconds showing the aftermath of a successful ride.. the sea.. the beauty of the surface of the sea.. the wave dying down.. way to go!
People always say this and fail to realize sound doesn't work like that. This is filmed from like a half mile away, there is no sound unless you mic up your surfer.
And full raw clips are great, I love them but there's a lot of that, and the best way to splice together a lot of good waves is to set the highlights to music.

The sea at Nazare is very unpredictable. It's a bit agressive most part of the year, but when winter comes...run for your lives! When the underwater "cannon" starts shooting the result are these monstruous waves. The sound...it's really like bombs exploding, very, very scary and deafening! But the beauty of this natural show is also unique.

If one criticizes Kelly Slater one is automatically met by the haters. It's so funny. I like Slater but you are right..he is more of a trick rider in the short waves than a big wave surfer.

Big wave surfing makes all other "extreme" sports - even wingsuit flying - look like shuffleboard.
For sure, all except for the TT race. They lose on average two riders to it every meeting.
