  • A cheap home-grown exhaust mod for the Sprint ST1050. Bought a replacement silencer and opened up the rear chamber with some larger pipe. This is a hobbyist DIY not a professional job. It is cheap to do and retains the factory look which I like. Overall, I am extremely pleased with the outcome, the noise is much better and the bike takes ona whole new lease of life around 7000 RPM. It hasn't been mapped or had any other changes, the cats remain in place also.

I just took the standard box off, opened it , took EVERYTHING out, just an empty box and it sounds glorius !!! Correctly tuned, at night it throws big blue flames on the down changes !

Peter Koning do you have a video as I am interested in doing the same

Sorry no. Just cut with an angle grinter the top part of the silencer and swing it open like a lid. You will have to grind of the small weldings (about 6) on thr top(lid) to get it open and just remove everything ! Reweld.

Peter Koning I can imagine it is very loud with nothing inside it? Also do you still have the SAI connected up does it pop and bang loud? Cheers

Streangely not loud, crisp. SAI ??? No pops & bangs, lovely tripple sound especially between 5 -7000rpm

Peter Koning The Secondry Air Injection system what basically makes the exhaust pop and crackle on deceleration. I just thought with that still connected it would make loud pops which is not a bad thing by the way!

If you want to do this mod, I have a spare standard box (you see them side by side in the video) open to offers as I'll never refit it to my bike. Collection from Maidstone Kent

I've just picked up an exhaust for £20 so I'm going give this a go. Any tips on how to get both outta pipes perfectly level with each other

When you drilled, how was the inside? Just an empty space?

Mate when you did this mod, what diameter was the new pipe you put on ? Gonna do the same mod next week.

I think it was 2" from memory but I just went with the larges bore pipe that I could get inside the trim. If I were you I would measure the internal diameter of that to determine your pipe size. Oooh err!

Just found that someone else asked the same question 8 months ago, at that time I thought it was 1" 3/4 so I'd definitely measure it, I clearly cannot be relied upon for the detail.

@@FatNFurious ok mate cheers for that, check it tmoro. I broke my leg at the beginning of March, the bike arrived 2 days later 🙁 so I haven’t been able to ride it yet. Still got at least another 2 weeks before I can ride it so I might as well get all the wee mods done so it’s ready for when I can. Thanks for the info anyway mate. I’m definitely gonna give that a try. I’ll let you know how it went 👍👍

Hi what size pipe did you use for the mod, cheers

1" 3/4 rings a bell, I can't remember to be honest it was just what was kicking around. You'll need some good drill bits and a power file to get through that stainless pipe though, the Triumph exhaust is seriously tough good quality stainless!
