    Hi Jake, we are barebow shooters and we take 150 grit sandpaper and clean up the trimmed edges of the tab and then give it a bit of Black Sharpie to compete the process.
    Love the Glove Oleum hint.

    I didn't know these had to be trimmed. Bought one on Amazon. Used it out of the box. Arrow fell off rest on release (pretty sure the excess leather occupying the space between the spacer caused it) aligning perpendicular to my desired shooting direction basically causing a dry fire. Causing injury and damage to bow. Wish I had known. Thankfully was still using a low draw weight.

    Like a light trigger on a gun your accuracy will improve as well with the right finger release in archery ! I’ve been missing out on proper setup for my finger release , thanks for the tip !

    Super pro tip if you shoot with both a tab and do thumb draw: save the cut leather and you can use it to fill out your thumb ring, essentially serving as a "kulak" from Turkish archery (though if your fiberglass horsebow breaks you can also harvest the limb covers too and make a thumb tab as well).

    Good videos Jake. For getting a fabulous cut on leather , you will find a rotary cutter will give you a better result. Just use a cutting pad underneath.

    Dear Jake
    First of all I like you so much, am one of you fans, I suggest to make more technical videos, talking more about technical like grouping, setup, aiming glasses.
    Thanks

    Hello Jake, My son use this AAE Tab (Cordovan) , but something strange happenned with this tab. Two day before the competition my son shooting practicing the tab is fine. but at the day of competitian the string suddenly always hitting the top of his index finger. I have checked the tab I cannot find anything different. it'is quite painful for the index finger. and the score become terrible. The next day i have no choice but to change the tab with his old tab. Have you ever had any experienced with this kind of situation? it would be nice if you could give some advice. Thank you. Always loved all of your video

    Thank you Jake. One question, how much big or small does the spacer needs to be. I understand it's individual preference but pros and cons of why one would be better than other.

    • @BlasterKotakatik
      @BlasterKotakatik 4 года назад

      A spacer should have sufficient length and size so you are capable of squeezing it throughout the whole shot as Jake said. You should take a look at spacers made for this method, such as the KSL gold finger spacer or Brady's contour tab finger spacer, both share a similar design.
      If you don't use the squeeze the finger spacer method then the spacer should be big enough just so that you fingers don't squeeze the arrow off and nocking it out of the rest. If you finger's touching that's fine just don't let it touch the arrow with too much force to knock it off. This is just my 2 cents.

    I recommended the BOOKS for anyone who finally wants to be in control of how to adjust your bow and how to train to get really good at archery!! Because one says this to the other. Take it from someone who already has SILVER TWICE...and so much more...Those books are the best gift ever to myself for archery believe me.And say for yourself Jake is the best teacher ever! He tells everything without secrets and i will be very grateful to him for that! Give yourself the best if you want to be the BEST... HAPPY SHOOTING FRIENDS AND GOD BLESS YOU ALL...

    Great video as usual, lots of very vital and useful information. Being a Barebow archer, could you do a similar edition for trimming a Barebow finger tab please, for those of us shooting Barebow ?

      shouldn't be, trimming the finger tab be exactly the same?

  • @jackboyd147

    i think my tab is just about perfect how i soften my leather i use the first layer of leather 2.5 mm veg tan leather good quality in the uk identity store make most of my quivers armguards and tabs from same type of leather though made my quiver from 3.5 mm and for the tab secondry leather i use chrome leather make the tab half inch shorter than my fingers though i do have one that is same size of my fingers they feel real comforteable

    Jake, thank you for the thorough trimming demonstration. On split-finger tabs, is it then customary to leave the gap between the fingers untrimmed, or does that depend on the diameter of the arrow nock being used with the tab?

    • @mrnice752
      @mrnice752 3 года назад +1

      Some tabs have wider gaps than others, if it's contacting the nock too much then you can widen it

    • @Carnax6969
      @Carnax6969 2 года назад +2

      I've trimmed the gap on mine to be wider but i trimmed a kind of curve where the nocks may touch the material. What my instructor told me is shoot a couple dozen arrows with the new tab, and then when we looked at the leather, you could see scratch marks of where the nocks dragged on it. This gave us some reference points on how much to trim of in between the gap.

    I disagree with your theory. The backing leather only needs to cover the string in th hook position. Only one layer is nedded to protect your fingers during the release.

  • @purplebrick
    @purplebrick Год назад

    Here is a stupid question... why do you even need the backing leather layer? I find it makes my tab too thick myself.

    • @JakeKaminskiArchery
      @JakeKaminskiArchery  Год назад +2

      At higher draw weights it a must or when shooting higher volumes of arrows.

      @@JakeKaminskiArchery thanks! I draw 40-43lbs so I am going to try one layer for now because I want the feeling it gives me. Luckily I do leather work and can play around with leather types relatively easily in the future. Great video!
