    Just home from shooting 120 arrows with my Olympic recurve. I tried your Tip of making sure the Tab is up against the bottom
    of the Nock. Thank you very much, I experienced a noticeable tightening of my groups!!!! As a 60+ yr old Intermediate Archer, there is
    always room for improvement!!!!

    04:30 Thanks so much for that. I am just getting back into archery but am trying out recurve shooting vs a compound that I used to shoot in my youth. Even though it's barebow shooting it's so complicated vs the simplicity of a having a set draw length, mechanical trigger to make the release very repeatable.
    I started with gloves but wanted to give tabs a try and I really like the tab, but I was so unsure of how to set the location on the tab that I didn't want to buy anything for the time being lol.

    Thanks for these two Tab videos....about to buy my first tab and tbh had no idea what I needed to look out for. My coaches seem to busy worrying about technique (which is fair enough, but.....) while missing something as crucial as this....I am currently using basic club tabs, which make life easier than bare fingers, (just...) but I have been making so many of the mistakes you have mentioned without being picked up on by my coaches! (you have to wonder when you mention some of the top archers names and they don't know who they are, how far they are stuck in the past...), really appreciate your advice....

    Really useful information. Much thanks.....Its really bad that club coaches don't tell you, or don't know this stuff.

    I'm a bit confused as a beginner... My string has two little rings that indicate the nocking point for the arrow. I did slightly cut my tab, but just so the little rings sit snug in the gap. So I'm pretty use I'm consistent, because I'm using those as a guide, and still not touching the arrow?

    Hi Ashe, why/if I should choose heavy bronze tab? Is here a logic behind the weight of tab, e.g. associate to the poundage? method of anchor? Or completely a personal choice? -- thank you! Yang

      Hi Yang Du! Essentially it is a personal choice, and I always encourage archers to try lots of different tabs! Saying that, I'm not a fan of the heavy tabs so normally advise a 'standard' weight tab :) You want the release to be dynamic and fast, so a heavy tab actually goes against that for me!

    Thnks Ash! I needed your video to discover that I was using a too big tab for my hand... What do you suggest to care for the cordovan tab leather? I used some neet oil for the old one. Nice leather at the end, but a little too soft. Should I keep it "dry"?
    Thanks!

    I spent more time 'untangling' the top part from the bottom getting a hook that I did exactly what you say dont. Now I have an acceptable 'gap' but the bottom leather does contact the nock. No changes experienced at all. Other than I can hook and set up a damned sight quicker........ And looking at Lees tab, there IS gap between upper and lower so it begs the question.... what ARE you saying exactly? My tab is now more like the one shown after trimming. See ya......

    True: new tab took +2 weeks to break in for the amount I shoot

    If anchor hand doesn't move up or down, string position on the side of mouth is not moving too much forward or backward, is it better to drop the finger plate? i.e. better not to use finger plate but to train the sense of anchor with hand and top of forefinger (plus nose, string, chest).

      It's personal preference and finding what works best for you :) There's no 'better' for this part of technique, but rather what is better for you...

    Can you tell me how long it takes to become a professional archer and to compete at world class level?

  • @12stepsbeyondtheeventhorizon
    @12stepsbeyondtheeventhorizon Год назад

    The issue I have with my tab is that the back piece of leather is much softer than the front one (that connects to the string), which makes it flap and bend down as I'm putting the tab on the string, and it touches the arrow in ways that often makes me knock the arrow off the rest. I'm really not sure how to fix that, since I can't make the leather any stiffer. Should I just use some kind of soft leather glue to stick the two layers together, or perhaps I should remove it altogether?
