This happened to my 2021 Silverado and was about to call the dealer. Then I said let me check on RUclips and found your video. Went out to the truck and did it and that is all it took. Thank you for the video. You get 5 stars.
THANK YOU. BECAUSE OF THIS VIDEO I CAN DRIVE MYSELF AND MY SON HOME! My wheel was in the exact same position when I removed my key and I was freaking out because I couldn't turn the wheel or key. I watched several other videos before yours that didn't work. Thank youuuuu!
Thank you for your post. I did this to my Sierra. It made a metal, chain-like locking sound. I thought my ignition broke! Your video fixed it right away. What a relief!
Thank you...installing mudflaps on an "18 Suburban that I've had for 6 days when the wheel/ignition lock happened. I was expecting to call for a tow in the mornong. Glad I found your post!
There are memes about that ONE guy on the internet that posts that ONE video that saves your ONE problem in that ONE situation. This this that video and I am that guy with that problem. THANK YOU
I have a 2016 Colorado, been dealing with this for a while now. You can also free the key by moving the gear stick from park all the way to reverse and back to park. Sometime I’ll tap the break and you’ll hear the safety switch unlock, sometimes that’s an easy way as well. When it happens to me I basically run through those 3 things. 1 park to reverse and back to park. 2. Tap the break peddle and turn the wheel. 3 turn the wheel.
I'm sitting in the cab of my 2022 Silverado right now with a steering wheel lock issue… I've tried everything people on RUclips and said nothing works and I'm pulling down on this steering wheel as much as I possibly can but I'm 64 years old so can't pull real hard lol nothing is working 😢
What do you do if you have a push button start with the same issue? Do you push the button at the same time as turning the steering wheel? (Have a 2015 Yukon XL Denali)
Hmm that’s a good question… I’m not entirely sure, but that may work with a push button. You should also see where the backup ignition is (if there is one). (Your key fob has a detachable mini-key inside of it) If there is a backup keyed ignition, you may be able to use the key method also.

I knew the steering column could lock, but I had just never encountered an ignition that also locked with the wheel.
