How to Fix a Baseboard That A Puppy Chewed Up --- Fast and Cheap!!

- Today I decided to tackle a baseboard that my eight-month-old Beagle puppy decided to snack on one day. Dogs and puppies especially seem to like chewing on the corners of baseboards and my little pup is no different. I decided to use a wood filler to make the end of the baseboard smooth again and to shape it to the profile of the baseboard. After sanding and painting, the baseboard practically looks brand new from afar. Only when looking close up will it look like something happened to it.

I adopted an elderly mutt from the pound. I knew immediately he had some issues. One was, he didn't want to be outside if my husband or I wasn't with him. We went off on a day trip, and my husband insisted on leaving him out with our other dog, who didn't mind spending the day in the yard(fenced). When we got back, our new dog had chewed the frame on both doors, trying to get back in. (Told ya so, honey. LOL) Anyway, I knew there had to be a way to repair without replacing the entire frame. So I came to youtube, and here you are! I wrote down what you used. I have some spackling tools that'll do just fine for the job. Hubster has some sandpaper, but I'll have to check the grit to see if I need to get some more. I'm not at all worried how it will look after the repair. It looks terrible now. It can only look better. And I need to paint the entire frame and door anyway. Thanks for the tutorial!
The canine supervision (guilty party) of the repairs makes it perfect.

I have two free roaming guinea pigs who have ate small bites of baseboard all over my room and this video just saved me from a hefty fine!! 😅

Thank you! I’m in a rental and can’t replace the boards but would like to keep my deposit. She chewed 3 corners and part of the wall. I like to leave my apartments as perfect as I can. I feel so bad.

Could you use an orbital sander to speed up the process?

Pls suggest an alternative to the plastic wood filler as that's not available in my home town, sadly!
There really is no great alternative. There are tons of wood puttys on the market, and you can alway buy from amazon, using the link in the description.
I'm currently trying it out and so far, it's looking better.
Can I use it on the wall as well?
You should use a crack spackling paste for small holes and cracks in drywall. for drywall that has been worn away from chewing, or large gaping holes, I suggest you use some joint compound and a technique called a California Drywall Patch, or buy a drywall patch from the home improvement store. You may be able to get away with spackling paste for shallow wear in the wall, but noting too extreme.

Is It not easier to remove and replace the section of board?
It may be easier, but if you do not have the tools, cant find a matching baseboard to replace in, or just do not have the general know how to replace baseboards, I feel like my approach will be the best option.
Our house was built in 2022 and my dog chewed a portion of the kitchen baseboard up.
My 7 week puppy was chewing on wood baseboard corner, is this dangerous for the dog?
Possibly as it can hurt the dogs teeth, because the baseboard material is probably too hard for a 7 week old puppy. Puppies this young need to be introduced to proper teething toys so they can safely teeth. Also, any ingested baseboard will not be safe for the dog, especially if there are any sharp/splintery pieces.

Is that product poisonous to dogs? My puppy has chewed the baseboards and every attempt I’ve made at covering the corners. Guaranteed if I do this, she will chew the corners again.

That is extremely time consuming my rabbit has chewed a bunch of small spots throughout the upper level of our house of course behind furniture so we couldn't see it one bite led to 100 bytes I'm surprised the rabbit's Not Dead from all the paint it's ingested over 2 years it's not super deep it's just a lot of multiple bites at this point I'm just thinking of using paint to fill it 🤣😂
