The Carrack is a military ship and will come with armor in the future, when the cockpit blast shield is implemented. Since this ship is meant to go where no man has gone before, it is made to handle the harshest environments. I also love this ship, Carrack is home and is my Firefly/Serenity ship, that can do almost any game loop in the SC PU.
I think until the Galaxy or Polaris comes out, this will remain my personal home-away ship as well. It really is a great one, I just with it wasn't as prohibitively expensive, tho I do understand the rationale.
The Invictus skins aren't quite to my personal taste, but I do appreciate the color combination! I can't argue that a pilot weapon would be nice, but I see the thought process for not including one. I think the Carrack is one of the ships that truly rewards multi-crew gameplay.
Congratulations on the Carrack- she's a beaut! I know you're gonna have a lot of fun. Three things you might have missed about it; 1.The dev's have confirmed during the last week's round table that there is a 'Fury' style blast shield planned for the cockpit canopy. 2. On the lower bridge, there is a secret panel that lifts up out of the floor in front of the main pilots seat. It may be either an anti-piracy weapons locker or a self-destruct switch. 3.As a fun Easter Egg, take a closer look at the wine bottle in the Captains quarters- it reads 'Jean-Lucs Winery'.

I like that you ramble when showing a tour, gives it a sense of reality. I have learned that there are two ways to play this game. The one way to play is to sit and wait for the designers to come up with adventures do them and get bored again. and the other way to play is to create your own adventures, like the way Citizen Kate does, i sense you are the later as well. I am pretty much a newbie, I play very rarely, and have only actually been to a handful of worlds/designations. I have made many notes and consult them every time I play., which is maybe once a week. I have owned a Vulture for a week and have not even flown it yet. I also own a 315p, yup own. I upgraded from a Freelancer, which frankly was useless to me, crashed it three times. gotten shanked on all cargo runs, cost me more than I got paid. Salvage seems much more viable. I have yet to earn any money. tried playing with my nephew, we went on a retrieval run on a airless planet, just get the box and bring it back. Yah right...we got ambushed by twenty AI dudes, we fire back took out ten of them but got killed instead. no money. We tried a bounty, destroyed the ship, but the money part glitched (of course) and again no money. I am down to 116k, and dwindling. I have tried code to get money through offers, without success....Despite all of this I really like the game and have been dreaming about a game like this for some time. by the way do you recognize the cartoon I have for my pic? hardly anyone remembers...I am strongly considering doing a vid like yours and explaining the reality of how hard and intimidating this game actually is. intimidating but marvelous.
I am rly lookin forword to the storms release to see if i can fit it into the rover bay :) Oh and dont forget that the carrack is supposed to be one of the few modular ships.
So, it's weird. Back in 3.17 we were able to QT with a number of different ships up to a Vanguard sitting on the exterior. Since then we haven't been able to successfully replicate it. However there are some folks on YT that say they have. I don't know how much stock I'd put into that, but in my experience so far since then, no, it won't stay attached.
@@eyesofheimdall6510 thanks for the detailed answer, i came across a video on one of the concepts for light carriers and noticed it was planned to have multiple external pads for ships that would stay through QT. since the Carrack has landing markings on its doors and a personell entrance right next to it, i thought this might already be a feature of this ship. Maybe in the future (but i doubt it since the carrack wasn’t even mentioned in the newest info on modularity and ships)
No worries, I get the feeling that CIG is attempting to narrow down the usage of their more expensive ships. I know that is not a popular idea, but from a business perspective it makes sense. With that in mind, and the dedicated carriers coming down the concept pipeline, many of the larger ships that you could cheat the system with seem to be getting those loopholes closed. I still love my Carrack, and it will remain my go-to for multi-crew gameplay, especially for squad sized bunker runs. Let me know if you have any other questions!
Does a C8R Medical Pisces fit inside? I have an A2 Herc, which I like for that fact, (A2 also has 2 size 5 lasers for the pilot) but I just never got a Carrack because the Pilot has NO weapons at his command, 0. That means this ship is defenseless inless you have a mandatory 2nd crew member! please correct me if Im wrong,,,
Yes the C8R fits, that's what I usually have in my bay. And yes the pilot has no weapons of there own. It isn't defenseless tho. It has exceptional speed (not just for a ship of it's size) and a decent amount of survivability to escape most situations if being flown solo. I do love the Hercules as well, but I've found recently I'm flying the Carrack much more than I expected I would. It's just a really useful ship.
Not having offensive capabilities does not negate defensive capabilities. The ability to escape or absorb damage is defensive in it's execution. So the ship is not defenseless. It is offenseless.
Right, but that is the balancing of the ships. The Carrack is not meant to fight when being ran solo. So the only ships it has to worry about, are ones mounting Distortions, (which pilot weapons wouldn't change given it's size) meaning a hostile player will have to make the conscious choice to run distortions (meaning they are almost assuredly PvP focused anyway) to be a threat that is inescapable. The game is designed so that everything has positives/negatives. Honestly, the lack of pilot weapons is to encourage group play to make this ship fully functional. A design choice that is shared by all ships of its size. It's an amazing ship. It works very well solo, but not in the same roles that it would if crewed. If crewed, this ship is very good at pretty much all loops in game at this time. Piracy atm really isn't that big of a problem, given the hassle of moving cargo from a ship like the Carrack makes it not worth the time for a lot of folks.
The Aurora LX isn't a bad ship for getting going. Just needs a couple of extra guns and it can do decent at low-tier bounties, which have the chance of dropping cargo. If you're trying to determine if the cargo is worth picking up, use sc-trade.tools/home (a free SC economy site) to check the prices. Hope that helps, o7!
Not a terrible plan either way! The only thing to worry about with the Carrack is the upcoming changes to cargo loading will make it a bit of a pain to use with large scu boxes. My org uses my Carrack as a mobile base regularly.
I will remember that, the only Crusader ships that I currently don't have are the Ares fighters. I flew them each during Invictus, and decided that never again until the really big bullies of the verse are released.
The ship still seems buggy, had a chance to get on one but could not open doors or ride the elevator. I was in the group with the owner of the ship and he could open the doors just fine. But it can hold my mule which made me happy lol. I don't know if I would drop 1100.00 for it even if it comes with two ships and two ground vehicles.
Very true on the cost. The viability of it from a value perspective comes from the (not in game of course) modular bays that are currently the cargo compartments. If a set of modules came out that let me turn it into an industrial ship, ie... refinery and salvage mods, then this might replace my Galaxy.
@Eyes of Heimdall if that happens then I am sold, but it would have to work and be easy to swap out. Ship itself looks amazing, parked next to it in my titan and I felt so small 😂
I have a 600i and was on edge picking this up. I'm a solo player and the lack of pilot guns turned me off of it. Hopefully the 600i rework makes it worth staying with it.
The 600i is one of the Origin ships that I do really like. It flies well and I have no negative notes on it, other than limited cargo capacity drives me nuts. The Carrack to me is not a great solo ship, tho it is great for bunkers no matter how many are on board!
I've gotta grind a bit, and I think I'll get another 600i. Maybe I'll do a review on it too. I do really like the ship overall. I might settle for a 400i just to get used to Origin's... unique.... pilot surfaces.
Up til now my only Pledge was my MSR, my dream ship and still favorite to this day. But recently I've been on the verge of adding the Carrack to my hanger. Really torn now between the Carrack and 600i Explorer (after announced reworks]
I personally would recommend the Carrack if you're planning on multi-crewing. Solo it becomes much more of a personal taste thing, tho the lack of a med-bed on the 600 can't be understated.
I say get the Carrack, I have both and the 600I gets useless and is inefficient, also you forget about the luxury eventual the carrack itself isn’t the worst looking as well and personally I feel like it gives off a more “long-term expedition” vibe.
yup! The Carrack is just about the perfect explorer in my book. Since the video I've done a bit more of a lore-dive on it, and it has a very interesting history as well. Check it out on galactapedia.
yeah, I was reading some old Spectrum posts last month about the modularity idea. If they added a refinery or salvage module, I'd insta-pledge this thing for sure!
I hate this ship: it drops me in space every time I try to exit the pilot seat while in Quantum. 100% of times, and then it takes ages to be claimed back.
I'm sorry to hear that. I haven't had that problem, yet. The only time my Carrack gives me trouble is if we have more than five people on board, randomly things like the elevators quick working.
Carrak is one of those ships that is just too much ship for me. The MSR is just a bit too big for my purposes. I love the concept and features of these ships. I salivate at the Reclaimer above all but again. It's too much ship. I don't have enough friends to make use of these ships on the regular.
It is a bit unwieldy, tho the Carrack is less of a hassle to fly (combat excluded) than its size would indicate. Its not nearly as much of a pain to handle compared to the Reclaimer, tho atm nothing else in game is nearly as troublesome as the Reclaimer. The 890j is the closest real competitor, but they have such a different mindset from design to execution, that I feel the similarities are just the size, and little else. It's a lot of fun to use even solo, because it's fast enough to escape from problems, and flies well enough to be quite useful for a variety of surface missions as well. Check one out if you ever get the chance.
@@eyesofheimdall6510 I like the reclaimer for the aesthetic and vibe. Also big ship make e-pp stronk. I run a Nomad as a daily driver and for the stuff I do it's great. Closest to that is the terrapin if the were a gutted 'civilian' version without the scanning stuff. It's the legs. I guess when it comes to space ships, I'm a feet guy.
That is.... an interesting perspective! I wouldn't hate the Reclaimer so much if it worked at least %50 of the time. Until it's fixed a bit, I just can't get behind it fully. The real sad thing to me, is that there are only two salvage ships in game atm, and you can't buy a Vulture in game yet. To be fair, a good deal of my disdain for the Reclaimer is purely based around the fact that I had to buy it twice to get it to show up due to a terminal failure, and 30m credits is no laughing matter!
