My grandfather left me a lot of rare kiln dried ruff cut hardwood lumber, & i just took some of the black walnut & cherry & hickory to the the lumbar mill for plaining. This is one time you don’t have to worry if your jigsaw blade is straight. If it tilts a bit that just makes the diffuser work better. I liked the design before the flip every other one, it looked more undulating and difficult to achieve (impressive). I also think it would have diffused better.

    • @diefreemediagroup
      @diefreemediagroup Год назад +1

      You’re correct. Intricately random patterns create the best diffusion by sending upper mid and higher frequencies in different directions rather than directly back towards the listener.

    Great great vid, convinced me to build one today (well, start today and finish in the next month or so). Honest question about measurements - if I want to make it 56 inches wide, and I’m using 1x4’s, do I really need 75 boards? The math says yes but I’m getting dizzy overthinking it.

    • @TMPK
      @TMPK  3 года назад

      Thanks! Yea 75ish but Don’t forget you get 2 out of 1 because after you cut the wavy you use both sides. So 37.5 lol

    yesterday I bought wood and i'm doing a panel 1mt x 1,4mt 12 mm deep.....:-)
    I've to spend my time during the lockdown period that it will start in one day!
    I hope that it will be not too heavy!

      Stafford Studios I believe it’s just meant to have sound waves hit it and break them up so the room has less echo? Who knows how much it’s actually helping. I just built it cause it looks cool lol thanks!

    Hi Jared - this is a truly inspiring video and the results are spectacular! One question - at about 6:20 minutes in to the video the number of profiled pieces of wood seems to double from 34 to 68. When and how does this occur during the process? Thanks John L

    • @TMPK
      @TMPK  2 года назад +1

      Thanks! The pieces double because after I cut the waves of I use both sides. So imagine the 1st piece I cut being labled #1 and when I cut it, it becomes #1 and the other half would be #1.1.
      Then when I lay them out, They would be
      (1/ 1.1/ 2/ 2.1/ 3/ 3.1)
      I don’t know if that makes sense lol
      When I draw the waves on the piece I’m going to use as a template, I try to keep it about 50/50. One side may have a little more than the other but that’s okay.

    • @johnlyons2781
      @johnlyons2781 2 года назад

      This makes absolute sense Jared and thanks for the tip about the waves! Am going to try to apply this formula to dowels mounted on pegboard and cut to lengths that create contours similar to the curves you profiled with the jig saw.....

    Seems more 'art' than science, what frequency range and decible attenuation do you get with it?

    • @TMPK
      @TMPK  3 года назад +1

      The frequency range on any given night in my studio is somewhere between 20 Hz and 20,000 Hz. The DB’s are attenuated nearly by 50 percent when they hit this beauty.
      Nah, I’m just kidding. I have no idea how to measure any of that. I just saw it on the internet and said to myself, I can build that!! Also I needed something to film so I could edit for 2 weeks straight lol
