This series has some absolutely cold lines (and colder realities), but that is one of the coldest. Not only shows indifference to the fate of this kid, not only shows no concern for any threat he poses, but implies that Askeladd has seen this all before.
Without spoiling it's gonna make a lot of sense later on why he saw this all before
And yet in a very backwards way it's also Askeladd giving Thorfinn a chance. A small chance, that he doesn't expect Thorfinn to actually survive, but all throughout Thorfinn's childhood and adolescence Askeladd keeps giving him chances, even when it would be simpler and easier to just kill Thorfinn and get it over with. But Askeladd, probably out of respect for Thors, gives him a chance, however small, to keep going and keep living.

I just started watching your reactions, but I’m glad you felt a lot towards the end especially when Thorfinn shows his rage. It just shows how easily hatred can stem off violence and tragedy from someone so young. Excited for you to get through the season as well as the next. I’m always here for anyone doing Vinland reactions.
The moment when Asklelad asked Thors to become their leader he was actually being serious because in that short fight he understood Thors' caliber and respected him but inside he knew that wasn't gonna happen he played it off as a joke.

When I think of anime that really hit me. Vinland Saga is the first to come to mind (along with made in abyss),and you’re just getting started. It’s an incredible journey!

God damn do I love Askeladd the speech he gave Ari after he attacked him he knew Thors was a good man but he had to do what he had to do
It doesn't really matter too much but i always recommend to people that they don't watch the OP for the first 4 episodes because if you pay attention to it you can kinda easily tell 3 things that spoil: That Thors is not a big part of the show (I mean physically part of the show), Askeladd is a big part of the show and that Thorfinn is around Askeladd alot. This can very easily make someone realise that Thors is gonna die at some point and somehow Thorfinn ends up following Askeladd around.
Askeladd was not joking about Thors becoming their leader. Its just when he noticed Thors wont ever accept, he played it off like a joke, to not appear weak infront of his men!

Some kids not gonna listen or understand what their parents said or tell them what or why cause they doesn't understand, the kid has will learn and have to figure it out for themself and have a taste of it with themself. It's the exact same in thorfinn case.

After finishing this I knew why askeladd didn’t laugh with his men it’s cause he felt that anger before him and thorfinn have very similar story’s sadly.

You should definitely watch Frieren Beyond Journeys End its a good fantasy anime with storytelling and characters that really make the show one of my favorites

Thors didn’t chose to die because of the morals. Even if he would choose to kill Askeladd it wouldn’t change anything and maybe would make things even worse. Floki can send bigger group next time or attack the village in order to kill Thors. So Thors chose to die here to protect his loved ones from Floki.
Attack on titan was the only anime between my favorites shows until vinland saga season 2, it will get better and better. Damn you are too cute.
Askeladd just pretend, he plays the role of a captain with a bunch of savages, but after he meet thors he feel something he wasn't joking about it. But after bjorn jump off and mad askeladd remember he has a main goal which is you'll see. He wants to save thors but he can't cause he planned the goal his whole life. That' sucks.

so a little fact: "berserk" is NOT A MODE like a berserk mode or somethink... berserk is a title to a warrior and before the title it was a warrior class. berserk warriors where just strong and so they give good warriror a berserk title, its from the word BEAR the animal berserks looked like bears, big and strong they even had bear fuers on the shoulders, all berserk mode style in animes/shoiws you see is like a godmode/supersayan transformation but real berserks are just very strong fighters, thors and thorkell are the only real berserks in this anime and berserk is the base
