Oddly enough, my grandmother worked for the Levi’s location in Dallas that put together Big Tex’s clothes. She worked on the shirts until she retired in the 80s.

My country isn't known for fried food so it's incredible to watch this ! I once saw a picture of a whole hamburger deep fried and thought it was crazy, like a prank. You are so right! The original Big Tex (which since has been replaced due to burn damage) was first a giant Santa from the small town of Kerens, Tx! My hometown, & that is something we are SO proud of!

The Texas State Fair is the best in the country, soooo much amazing food! I also highly recommend the Wisconsin State Fair, got to get yourself a proper Bratwurst and the Chocolate covered Bacon among many of the other great eats-- like Cheese curds!
You can't be fully southern and not love okra! Fried, or any other way!😋 After an hour or two of eating that much of fried food, I'd have to be carried to my bed for hibernation.

Thats just broth , a Roux is actually a mix or butter or oil mixed with flour and cooked until blonde or brown in color. Its used to thicken soups and stews and chowders 😊👍
I’m a native Dallasite and I’ve quit going to the state fair for the past 7 years. It’s become so expensive just to walk through and have a small bite to eat that it’s turned me off. Can’t say I don’t miss it because I certainly do. My childhood is riddled with happiness associated with the fair. I just can’t afford it anymore.
We went to the State Fair and really enjoyed ourselves. Didn't eat much since the food was so expensive (e.g. smoked turkey leg at $18). I'm glad you reviewed some of the foods....especially the fried gumbo balls. I wish I had had some of them.....and the armadilo cookie ice cream sandwich!

There are several places you should try up here in Lansing, Mi. : Ukai Hibachi Grill and Sushi Bar, Eastside fish fry and grill, Meat BBQ, Los Tres Amigos, World Buffet, Hibachi Grill and Sushi Buffet, Asian Buffet, Everyday Authentic Chinese Cuisine, Woody's on Trobridge road and sooo many more places.

They are a little behind the times. Our State Fair had a lot of that stuff 10-15 years ago. It started with deep fried bananas, then reses cups, then cookie dough, etc. I can still member the deep fried Pepsi.
