I will always remember the road signs on I-40 in Texas. Free 72oz steak if you eat it in one setting. A dearth of good steakhouses and Mexican restaurants in the PNW

Only in Texas is a burrito with brisket, beans, and cheese called a “brakfast burrito”. Got to love Texas! 🤠
If they added a fried egg to the burrito it would be even better. Brisket and a fried egg is so good.
When Mikey tossed that ice cream on the cobbler at the steakhouse, I had a tear in my eye. I am so proud of him!

Appreciation for the fact Mikey went from his home in North Dallas, all they way west to Mineral Wells, then all the way South almost to Houston in a day for us! That's at least 5 hours of driving alone!

the onion rings passed the “pull test” being that you bit into it and the whole ring didnt come out, instead, it broke off with the bite. that is a big deal, just so you know.

As a Texan who transplanted permanently to Chicago I miss some of our food the most. Particularly TX BBQ. However, growing up and even in adult hood and especially in university my friends and I would load up the silverado or wrangler and go visit small towns for day trips and just hang out with locals who would usually tease us because we came in from central TX and me specifically because I was from Austin (5th generation). Either way the hospitality and memories we made in these little towns throughout the state is unmatched. It is nice to see others enjoying these small towns and these small businesses. Maybe it is the OG Austin in me but keep it local, keep it in the neighborhoods, and support small businesses especially the mom and pops from previous generations. The best ones that want your business will maintain the quality in the product and hospitality. I guarantee it.
Edit: While on your tour take advantage of local rivers and lakes. Maybe spend the night I know we did sometimes . I recall some sundays hungover heading to a river kicking off our kickers and wranglers jumping in for a swim no problem. Got to manage those calories to keep eating good like that. What I would give to relive those memories again.
As a bodybuilder am amazed the amount of food you are able to consume. Incredible!!

Can't believe u found the Leona General Store. I thought it was my secret. 1 hr north of my place. So glad u enjoyed it.
I'm from Graham, Tx about 35 minutes from Mineral Wells and this video made me so happy! I am shocked you did not end up at Mary's in Strawn though! Huge chicken fried steaks! They hang off both sides of the plate and Paradise Pizza in Graford it is my favorite pizza of all time!

When I lived in Fort Worth, my boss and his wife were members of a social group (back then, a social group was just a group of friends.. lol) that they called 'Chicken Fried Steak of the Month Club'. They would gather once a month at a well reviewed place that served chicken friend steak. It sounded like an awesome group!!
Chicken fried steak isn't worth all that. Good ,yes the way my mother made it absolutely to die for. Will I go all over the country or chicken fried steak.... hell no

My grandpa lived in Buffalo and my dad grew up there. So happy you enjoyed Anthony’s we ate there for every get-together, and family event. There fried fish at their buffet and desserts are amazing!

@@ntrakit6 whatever you want to spice up. And the oil doesn't have to be strained actually. I've kept the pepper flakes in the oil. My husband and friends liked it that way too.

The best bbq I've ever had in my life was in some small town in Texas while I was moving from AZ to FL. The smoke aroma filled my car for DAYS.

When you were eating the chicken fried steak, and got gravy in the corner of your mouth. I actually licked the corner of my own mouth. Chicken or country fried steak and gravy is my ultimate comfort food, I will always love it. And btw, I order a 22oz steak at my local steakhouse, and it’s half the size of that double deuce you were served. What a great looking steak, mouthwatering literally.

Mineral Wells is a cool town. Possum Kingdom Lake close by is beautiful. Had a great time. Also there’s a really cool bowling Alley there…
My grandparents take their grandchildren (me and my sisters) to dinner for their birthdays. It is tradition to go to Leona’s on your 18th birthday and you get an 18oz steak. I turned 18 this year in April and it was the best steak I have ever had in my life and I am convinced I will never have a better steak in my life.

Wow, Mineral Wells is not very far from my hometown of Jacksboro, TX and I absolutely love that you got to sample the good food available. There's really nothing else like it anywhere.
Suggestion: have squeeze bottle packaging for your hot oil, so that it's more convenient to bring around everywhere 😊

Howdy Mike! Here's some suggestions for some local favorites in Mesquite, Tx. Athenoes Greek Village Cafe for authentic Greek food. Joe's Pizza and Pasta for some home made Italian where they make their own sauces in house. Mesquite BBQ is another fantastic BBQ place and has been family run in the same spot since it opened back in 1959.

Been to Leona’s and yes it is amazing! You have to line up early and people come from all over Texas, heck we drove from Clear Lake which is 30 minutes south of Houston and it was worth it! Only bad thing was the long drive home feeling stuffed!

Hearing southern hospitality gives me the biggest grin🤣 we’re happy to please! Sitting at the table is meant to be a respectable an friendly time. I would advise a good beer with your meal. I find a pilsner to be my preference with a juicer steak.
