When you’ve been on the road for hours this place looks like the Texan version of an oasis. What is that shimmering brisket scented mirage in the distance?
actually what I find when I walk in is the scent of the nuts they are making in a cinnamon and sugar coating... cashews, pecans, almonds.... it smells so good... then you get a hint of the BBQ.... Buc-ees is the place to go... a lifesaver in so many way
Took my wife to Buc-ees outside of Houston for the first time in her life. She said “what’s special about it? It’s a gas station *walks through the door* and why is it so big!?”
I grew up in San Antonio, lived in Austin and recently moved back but go to Dallas frequently. On IH35 I always make a stop at buc-ees if I have to or not.
As a gas station attendant in Texas, I wish I could get hired on at a Buc-cee's!! Sadly my 2 closest are this one and bastrop at about a 45min drive being the closest.
I am Czech, and I live in Texas. Our Kolaches are 100% different than TX Kolaches. Ours are pastries, while the ones in Texas have sausage, ham, meats, etc. While they are totally different, I love both of them.
Lone Star - I was telling my kids about this video (since we stopped here a lot on trips to Sea World SA, and they mentioned how the kolaches at Hruskas were more authentic Czech. I joked that someone should coin the term "Tex-Czech" for the savory/sausage kolaches
Kolaches are the sweet pastries in Texas too tho like the jam/cream cheese/ poppy seed in the middle of a sweet bun thing. Some people just call pigs in a blanket (the meat//cheese ones) kolaches too even though that’s not what they are
We have one in Florida and it is exactly the same as this one. Whoever came up with this concept and this menu is a genius. Without question some of the best food I've ever had.
my parents drove to florida for vacation and stopped at every bucees along the way from new jersey. i wish we could have at least one in nj but theres nowhere with enough space for it
Bucees is literally a growing culture. Once you learn about it, you want to keep discovering. Btw, I feel ashamed that I still have not gotten around to their made kolaches and pastries, since I love the brisket sandwiches, breakfast tacos, the peach rings, and the peanut butter dark chocolate nuggets too much!
Next trip on the way to Austin, you have to stop at Czech Stop bakery in West, TX for the authentic kolaches. This place is legendary and they are open every single day.
Yes! Honestly he needs to do a kolache tour! I didn't realize til I left Texas that so many places in America don't have kolaches at all and that is a damn shame!
I'm from San Antonio and I always visit Buc-ees when I go to Houston or Austin. Cool to see you cover this place! I always get the chicken strips with extra gravy and an extra strip along with a brisket sandwich. So good!
The way this gas stations been promoted over the past 2 years I’m actually suprised they haven’t started popping up in random states as like little tourist attractions
Worked outside Houston area at Exxon BOP chemical all of 2015-2016 and drove home every single weekend. They had a Bucees 10 min from the plant where I would wipe down and change clothes, get my energy drinks and jerky for the ride fill up with gas and try not to spend over 100 bucks there every Friday evening! Gosh I miss having a bucees close to me hahah
Buc Ees is basically the place of dreams. It's my go-to when I'm coming back to Austin from San Antonio. It's their brisket n egg tacos with their iced coffee in the AM. Makes my whole day
My grandparents (on my mom's side) use to live in New Braunfels, but sadly have both passed away.... and they didn't have a Buc-ees when we'd go to visit... if they would have tho my dad probably would've stopped there on the way to their house and then again on our way back home!! Love the video!!

Buc-ees has expanded into Florida and now South Carolina. For us it's a must stop off of I-95. The first time we stopped there was in the wee hours of the morning (3-ish). The staff was cooking, cleaning, and were super helpful and friendly. When we walked in and smelled all those wonderful aromas.. it was amazing!
@Trap Rico-san 。 nah. Texas has its own culture. Full of Mexicans, blacks, whites, Germans, Hispanics, Latin Americans and much more. Sure NYC has a lot of different people. But the culture in NYC is nothing compared to Texas. NYC from what I’ve seen and my buddies who lived there said. It’s just business and a really busy city.
@Trap Rico-san 。 lol, if you haven’t lived in Texas then you have no clue what the Texans mean when they say Texan culture. You’re obviously a lazy traveler who visits places with their mind already made up. “Deserts” LOLOL GTFOH Nyc can be great, but it’s segregated, has fundamentalist culture that is not friendly, and has hubris that isn’t really backed up by anything authentic. All Nyc is is a pricy transaction, a limited amount of space, and an impossible dream. When the transactions stopped during pandemic, most of the smart ones left. The ones that stayed sat in a tiny ass apt…with shitty air conditioning, probably full of regret. I hope someday you can own a home. Byeeeeee.
"It's butterier than an orc, I guess." High praise for a chicken croissant sandwich! 🤣 I've gotta say, that whole day of Buc-ee's food had me calling for my drool bucket.Yum! And I'm a vegetarian. 😬😂 Thanks, Mikey.
As a Czech, I gotta say, the pecan koláč looks very good and pretty close to traditional, as for the non-sweet ones, you wouldn't find that here in Czech Republic :D The closest thing to that for us would be something quiche-like. A whole pie. BTW fun fact, koláč just means pie or cake, also koláče is plural, koláč is singular, so it's pretty funny to hear Americans referring to koláče as singular and koláčes as plural :D That said I'd stuff my mouth with pretty much everything they had there tho
My husband's grandparents were both Czech immigrants to Texas. He hasn't really kept much of the culture or language his grandparents brought with them, but will still get super annoyed with how people use the word Kolache and that people call sausages wrapped in dough Kolaches in Texas. He frequently says "Pigs in a blanket are not Kolache! They are sweet pastries, Goddammit!" It's funny because he is otherwise a mild-mannered man.
Texas is full of Czechs its awesome amazing culture and food there's great like events every year in ennis tx and other places for them and the food lol 😆
I remember driving to tour colleges at the end of high school, going from Houston to Dallas and Austin, etc. Every stretch of major highway, you know that there's one Buc-ees between each city, and they are a must-stop. Always a great place to stop on a long trip in Texas. We love the brisket sandwiches. It's also a good spot to buy souvenirs and gifts. Their snacks are great too. They take it to another level.
Here's an idea for you Mikey! You should make some kind of Hot sauce and Chili oil holster that you can strap on your belt! Seems like the Texan thing to do and you'll never be without your favorite condiments! :)

as a european i gotta say i love the branding, and i guess the fact they are only in a couple of states probably is a good thing, this formula probably relies on economy of scale a LOT and it sure beats having a shit ton of locations, but that makes the branding all the more crazy, so much in-house stuff
It’s also very specialized to the kind of people who live near its locations, and likely wouldn’t even be successful in a lot of other places without changes

I grew up in San Antonio, lived in Austin and recently moved back but go to Dallas frequently. On IH35 I always make a stop at buc-ees if I have to or not.
Whenever I go to Austin I get a pulled pork sandwich and some Beaver nuggets
Please buy yourself a Buc-cee’s shirt. You’re a Texan now, DO IT! ❤️
I agree. If you're going to live here then represent.
Been here for a few years! It’s time!
I've been in Texas a couple years now. I guess it's time.
As a gas station attendant in Texas, I wish I could get hired on at a Buc-cee's!! Sadly my 2 closest are this one and bastrop at about a 45min drive being the closest.
And a little Buc-cee keychain. 😊

I am Czech, and I live in Texas. Our Kolaches are 100% different than TX Kolaches. Ours are pastries, while the ones in Texas have sausage, ham, meats, etc. While they are totally different, I love both of them.
I like Hruskas in Ehllinger, TX
Lone Star - I was telling my kids about this video (since we stopped here a lot on trips to Sea World SA, and they mentioned how the kolaches at Hruskas were more authentic Czech. I joked that someone should coin the term "Tex-Czech" for the savory/sausage kolaches
Kolaches are the sweet pastries in Texas too tho like the jam/cream cheese/ poppy seed in the middle of a sweet bun thing. Some people just call pigs in a blanket (the meat//cheese ones) kolaches too even though that’s not what they are
Me too I laugh whenever people call piggies in a blanket colaches
Every Kolache shop off I-35 sells both types, or at least I think every shop does,🤔

@Trap Rico-san 。 NYC is a cess pool.
“Deserts” LOLOL GTFOH
Nyc can be great, but it’s segregated, has fundamentalist culture that is not friendly, and has hubris that isn’t really backed up by anything authentic. All Nyc is is a pricy transaction, a limited amount of space, and an impossible dream. When the transactions stopped during pandemic, most of the smart ones left. The ones that stayed sat in a tiny ass apt…with shitty air conditioning, probably full of regret.

As a Czech, I gotta say, the pecan koláč looks very good and pretty close to traditional, as for the non-sweet ones, you wouldn't find that here in Czech Republic :D The closest thing to that for us would be something quiche-like. A whole pie. BTW fun fact, koláč just means pie or cake, also koláče is plural, koláč is singular, so it's pretty funny to hear Americans referring to koláče as singular and koláčes as plural :D
That said I'd stuff my mouth with pretty much everything they had there tho
My husband's grandparents were both Czech immigrants to Texas. He hasn't really kept much of the culture or language his grandparents brought with them, but will still get super annoyed with how people use the word Kolache and that people call sausages wrapped in dough Kolaches in Texas. as a european i gotta say i love the branding, and i guess the fact they are only in a couple of states probably is a good thing, this formula probably relies on economy of scale a LOT and it sure beats having a shit ton of locations, but that makes the branding all the more crazy, so much in-house stuff
It used to be only a couple locations. Its now expanding everywhere and the novelty of it is wearing off.
I think WalMart started in one US state but, as everyone knows, it expanded and now in all states. I think the same will be with buc-ees.
It’s also very specialized to the kind of people who live near its locations, and likely wouldn’t even be successful in a lot of other places without changes
