Lord Tornaga wanted her to foresee his future since she so clearly relayed his past so accurately. He down played all of his true intentions...governing over Edo, securing an army in secret for the upcoming battle and giving her land in Edo (Toyoko) to build out her Willow World dream as he will becomes Shogun. She confirmed that he would accomplish all and while he appears to be defeated, she goes about planning out her Willow World because of her foresight and ability to "recognize" his power, strategic mind and future successes.
The chemistry between the two characters was great . The dialogue is very well done , and the setting of the conversation is phenomenal . + I saw episode 9 today , and oh my god , is the best episode of the show in my opinion ⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️⚔️ .
The real life district Gin built was the Yoshiwara district, one of the three licensed and regulated red-light district during the Edo period. Unfortunately, the historic district was heavily damaged by a fire in 1913, further damaged by the Great Kanto Earthquake of 1923, and completely decimated by the firebombing of Tokyo during the Pacific War. Today, the area where Yoshiwara used to be is now a typical family-friendly Tokyo neighborhood.
Umm. That’s wrong. Yoshiwara was destroyed in the big fire of Edo in the 17th century. It was then shifted a few miles and rebuilt. Although it was damaged in the 1923 earthquake and levelled in US bombings in 1945, it remains a prostitution hotspot today, albeit all the historical buildings are gone.
It was a good scene. In Japan's water business and the world of geisha, there are still quite a few women who live with Ogin's spirit. It's less than before, though. In the scene where Ogin is standing in a place that would correspond to present-day Asakusa or Yoshiwara, the scenery was a tidal flat. I was amazed at the production team's ability to create such detailed settings. At that time, Edo had many tidal flats and many areas were reclaimed. I think Yoshiwara had a similar scenery at the beginning of the Edo period.
I love how in the Shogun Podcast Sanada describes their conversation as "medicine" for Toranaga. He really is at a low point, but a little bit of unexpected therapy from an old prostitute (how ironic) helps him set his head straight again.
Toranaga's subtle eye movement followed by his slow and commanding turn after is pretty much saying, "I don't give free hand outs. Someone as smart and cunning as you should know this so show me what cards you have to play aside from trying to get me to drop my guard by your begging and looking desperate." He's pretty much doing what he told his son he should've done instead of blowing people up with canons. He's never lost a war because he never starts a war since it reveals your cards to your opponent and leaves you open to falling into a trap. Let your opponent make that mistake and then only after make your move after careful consideration and planning.
As Gin exits her face suddenly appears white, a reference to the new "Geisha" class that she is asking Toranaga to endorse in Edo. Gieshas covered their faces with white makeup. Clever stagecraft here.
Way overpriced. Would be interesting to find out how long these lots have been on the market. Asking is not getting. When you are actually ready to buy have cash in hand and be ready to walk away. Renting is looking pretty good. I also wouldn’t drop that kind of coin unless I had been married for at least 5 years and was ready to loose it all if your relationship went away.
I have a theory: The empty lot Toranaga gives to Gin for her new teahouse... is the origin of Kabuki-cho, the largest entertainment district in the world. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kabukich%C5%8D
Nope, it's Nihonbashi in real life (currently one of the best area of Tokyo, in the show it was said it's the best area in Edo, indeed it is), Geisha guild was established there, it was called Yoshiwara (Red light district). However, a fire destroyed the area, so they moved.
“I’m afraid my future is too short for your far reaching plans.”
Thank you. This will be the quote I will be using for when my boss demands too much, which ultimately will also be the reason I’ll be fired. 😂

This scene is on another level!, the respect and detail in this series is absolutely fantastic and is now easily my favourite series

Mariko stood for the first time as Great Lord's daughter. it was majestic

@@stephenbachmann1171 Long live the prostitutes!!!
@@stephenbachmann1171 Maybe its a family friendly neighborhood prostitute hotspot? Did you ever think about that?
She’s a boss, Toranaga respects it
That’s why she’s the only person who asked something from Toranaga and never got a Monkey’s Paw treatment like everyone else.
Respected her grit so much he willed her land to build

Masterpiece.
When the curtains are open, she revealed her thoughts about Toranaga's plan.

She's incredible.
Her voice starts off demure, submissive, even pleading.
Then at 2:19 it changes completely.

The beginning of Yoshiwara. Fans of Demon Slayer will know the location as the Entertainment District.
So he made Yoshiwara in Edo (Tokyo). These ladies in Japan were called Oiran.
Knowing Hiroyuki and Keeanu Reeves friendship, will there be a cameo appearance?
I'm sure that will stir up the viewers
Don't think the viewers need that stunt to be "stirred up". I'm completely hooked.
This ''stirring up'' mentality is what brought modern media down already.
Olenna and Tywin vibe in this scene
Warriors 🔥🔥🔥
They should make kafka by the sea.
Mariko Sama!!!
T-T

江戸からの吉原は第二次大戦で日本が負けた10年後に売春禁止法で無くなりましたが、実際は形を変えて丸々残っていますよ。浅草のすぐ裏に吉原ってありますから、外国人にはあまり知られないようになっているのでしょう
Gyoko! In the book she’s called Gyoko!
I'm guessing a spinoff?
More like dreaming about

Q+$
It's actually Yoshiwara, a red light district mandated by the Tokugawa shogunate. It doesnt exist anymore.
