Thanks very much for making this fantastic nostalgic trip around the best parts of the Black Country! We emigrated as 10 pound poms in 1969 to south west Sydney but my Father was fiercely proud of his heritage and he worked at the M.E.B. too. Anyhow, thanks again, Cheers!!
Two hundred yards from King's Arms was toll end youth club, opposite was tipton tavern, the pub you show As bombed. It was a parachute mine that exploded at the time of a wedding reception, a lot of casualties, The other bombs destroyed part of Aston Street. The old crown, I heard you say it wasn't used for much, but, from 1975 up till 1979 upstairs was a twice a week northern soul disco, Allways packed, and if you were in the bar downstairs you could see the ceiling bend allmost a foot with the beat, with upto 200 people above you.
Some great old pictures i remember them all as a kid love old pictures of areas i know and remember u ort to do vidio of old pubs in tipton includeing park lane area owen street ect there were many almost one on every corner some remain but most gone but wud love to see pictures of them i remember some but forgot many pictures bring em all back to mind great vidios
Thank you so much glad you enjoyed it there is plan's to do more about Owen street and park lane which I will include the pub's of the day thanks again for your great comment happy watching 👍
The shop in Powis Avenue was originally 2 shops, Danny’s Butchers and a Hardware shop next door before it was knocked into one. Moved from Tipton 9 years ago but love it and miss the old skool community.
I had my first illegal pint in the crown and cushion, brings back fond memories. I remember the little shop over the road too, I lived on the lost city from 1990 till 96. One pub you didn’t mention was “The Bush” halfway down leabrook road next to the canal.
Crown and cushion was a really great pub my dad was from the lost city he loved the crown and cushion I will definitely get round to doing the bush Inn at some point thanks again for watching 👍
My mother had cousins , the Tiptons , who owned a Boarding house named CLIFF DALE , .It was in Llandudno and my mum had most wonderful holidays there with her Aunty Cissie , and her children , A Cissies husband was a disabled man , but still very capable, He was a councillor for the town for some years , I live at 3 Panakaraeo street in Kaitaia nz , and would love to hear from family if they see this . Thankyou , Angela,
I was born at the Waggon and Horses. I don't remember it though (the pub not by birth!). My Mom and Dad moved on when I was young to the Royal Oak at Dudley Port. My Mom told me I learned to walk while at the Waggon. One day, as a toddler, I climbed through a window and was running around on the roof. Customers and family were around the outside of the pub ready to catch me when I fell. I didn't fall but ran by the window where my Mom grabbed me! I keep meaning to return. I could say that I'm probably the oldest person to be going there as all the above was about seventy years ago.
It's always great to have memories like that I've only been in there a couple of times years ago but it was all of my dad's family's local or at least one of there locals thanks for sharing and watching I love to hear about the time of the past 👍
I was working for a German company in Darlaston in 1990. We had a German apprentice staying in some digs by the church - can't remember where exactly, but he used the crown & cushion regularly. Anyway, he decided he would watch the Germany Vs. England world cup semi final in there. A few of us English guys joined him. The whole pub knew he was German and ribbed him throughout. But not a single bit of trouble. What can I say - the result didn't go our way - but the atmosphere was fantastic and there were plenty of sore heads the next morning.
I'm born and bread Tipton my self I am injoying these you showing me things I never new and that pub up princes end that just had toilets left I new was a pub but nobody new what was called you leaning me you never showed the royal over road from prince and Wales pub

Most of your black & white pics were taken when i was a kid on the Lost City, my old junior school off the island at Ocker Bonk, and the Sardine can youth club by st Marks church, my dad used to drink in the Lost City pub, just 100 yds from where we lived in Hall Lane, i was quite disappointed you didn't show any of the Lost City apart from the pub.
The video itself is mainly what parts looked like and what they look like now the lost city estate hasn't really changed much over the years so to see a then and now picture it probably look the same thanks for watching 👍
My gran and grandad were caretakers and cleaners at the MEB...I have a couple of big pics of the old style offices. They lived, and my Dad was brought up, at the house next door to The Old Crown
6:40 I remember watching them demolish the cooling towers in controlled explosions with me dad, I was 15. It was on a Sunday 1985 summer holidays the first was brought down and then a month later the remaining two, remember as if it was like yesterday.
The King's Arms that's there now isn't the original building . It was demolished in the 80s and rebuilt. While it was being done they had a portacabin on site so the regulars could still go there lol. I used to go there with my boyfriend of the time with his mom and dad
I don't remember the original pub myself but I have spoke to people who do remember it I've just included it in the video because it brings back great memories of spending many great nights there thanks for watching and commenting 👍

Very True
My grandads' chip shop was damaged as per Tipton Tavern on 244 Toll End, must have been close to the youth club?

Your very welcome 👍
Thank you. Really interesting. Pity so many people now have to put up with traffic noise near their houses.
It can be very hard to find places these days were you can sit in peace and quiet there's to much traffic on the roads I think we need more park's 👍

Slight Correction, the post office was where the new part of Powis Avenue joins Toll End Road, next to Georgie Willis's grocery store.
What book are your photos from, Carl? Particularly the ones of Toll End Road and The Crown pub?🙂
There from a selection of books Tipton first selection second and third selection I believe there still available 👍
