  • In late February 1945, the 3rd Battalion, Irish Guards, launched an operation to secure the Dutch hamlet of Vrij. However, over the course of a single afternoon, the Battalion suffered heavy casualties and by the end of the operation was no longer a functioning unit. In this video, I detail this small engagement that became one of the darkest days in the history of the Irish Guards.
