  • In February 1945, the Canadian First Army launched Operation Veritable. Among the formations involved was the British 51st Highland Division, which was tasked with clearing the Southern portions of the Reichswald Forest. In this video, I detail a crucial engagement that took place at a crossroads in the forest, in which a small group of British soldiers took on over 200 German troops.

Another excellent video. Thank you for posting it, much appreciated. Myself living in The Netherlands, operation Veritable has always fascinated me. When visiting the Reichswald, sometimes it haunts me to be there, knowing all the Canadian and British troops who made the ultimate sacrifice.

The British Army used to have so much style, love how unique all the tanks were especially the look of the Churchill series, and down to the individual soldier with the helmet tilts and what not, we gotta get yall back to that level

Its almost appropriate that the 51st division, the division left behind at dunkirk in 1940, was the same unit who were first into germany.

They shouldn't have even been in the field. They were tired and battleshy by 1944 and it was repeatedly noted in command histories that they were past their prime. They should have been held as a reserve for ad hoc defensive operations where they still excelled.

Brilliant video. Massively respect your hard work and dedication to finding the information and footage to make these videos.
I’ve had a massive interest in WW2 for 10+ years and one part of the war I’ve always struggled to find information on is the British/commonwealth on the western front after D-day, then I stumbled upon your channel.
With the exception of market garden, the British ‘campaign’(?) seems to be massively overshadowed by the Americans. It’s great to hear stories of how hard our boys fought as well! It wasn’t all the US, post D-day.

This sort of action really shows the poor state of the German armed forces by early 1945. This was no longer the army that had conquered Europe five years earlier.
