    I've spent all night in the snow capturing star-lapse sequences, but at 30+ seconds per exposure it takes 4-5 hours for a 20-30 clip - this camera is amazing that it can do it all in real-time! Would LOVE to see it with a faster lens, cutting out another stop or more of light with a fast prime lens would probably look even more insane!

    • @DanMace
      @DanMace  2 года назад +24

      Hey Jay. We actually shot on 35mm & 50mm primes which were at f1.4 and f1.2 respectively. It was super hard to keep focus in the dark so in an uncontrolled environment like we were in, 1.4 might be the fastest one could go.

This camera isn't meant for commercial use but almost purely for industrial. These cameras are equipped in helicopters and navy boats in many security companies and govs so they can have a color accurate extreme low light image at night.

    If you're asking about cameras I'd like to see... to be honest, I'm actually trying to decide between 2 cameras for my upcoming budget year, and they're really quite different, and would love to see a comparison? I currently have a GH4 that I have to use for sit-downs + the occasional live event. (small budget + DIY get-it-done attitude + various converters and spit & bailing wire etc.) SO I'm looking to get a 2nd camera that I can use on sit-downs that will match up with my GH4 and do a better job of live events and streaming... Looking at rigging out a Canon R6, or going full camcorder style with the Canon XF605... but very worried the XF605 won't easily match up with the more cinema look of the GH4... what do you think?

      No... we talk about low resolution vs high resolution sensors and basically completely different sensor technologies.
      In fact CMOS is BAD when it comes to measuring low amount of photons, thats why those low light cameras have different sensor types which are less accurate when it comes to colors but far more sensitive.
      Basically the same longer ago with CCD vs CMOS, as long CCD was somewhat better for the regular photography, it was used, but as soon CMOS overtook CCDs in light gathering and quality, CCD died out (for us regular consumers....). As long cameras stick to CMOS, there wont be a huge performance increase anymore when it comes to low light. CMOS is by design not made for low light anyways.

      @@harrison00xXx perhaps it'll have to be a whole different sensor then. Just like memory cards have improved over time but they had to change what it's made of. From lightbulbs to floppy discs all the way to SSDs.

    The price is okay considering what it is, its not made for the normal consumer, its made for professionals. The big downside to this camera is the age, its really old. An updated version of this camera would probably be insane!

    I think the only time this would be a good choice is if you where filming a movie or big production and you absolutely want this specific type of shot other wise it's just a fun heavy paper weight

      Definitely more than a paper weight haha
