This video is a great way to show people how cameras actually work! Also an idea of how things could cause cameras to overheat if their not properly ventilated due to the fact that you don’t want any spill of light entering the camera other than from the lens.
I watched this video thinking "ok i got some free time" but coming out of it after, so incredibly humbled as a photographer and film maker. you are 100% correct, its about the story, and thats why we do the job we do. Not just for the pay or for the credibility. Its the memories and journey. unrealy mate, stay awsome from Australia!
Literally the best work I’ve ever witnessed you execute. The 3 act was spot on and the sentiment was tear jerking. Super proud of you. PS the discovery 4 episode plug 🔌 was seamless.
That was great. Lost track of you for a while Dan, glad to have found you again. I used to develop my own images in my dad's dark room AGES ago. Brought back the magical memories of waiting for the image to appear. Good work.
This has brought back so many memories about watching Discovery as a kid. This has made me want to push beyond my comfort zone in so many ways Bru. Keep going you're incredible.
Absolutely phenomenal. If you ever want to do it again, maybe a way around the overheating issue is to paste the photo paper on the wall in the garage instead of the field, and cover it with a giant cloth that is black against the photo paper and white towards the lens (a darkslide). Compose on the white cloth, and remove the cloth when ready to expose. Open the shutter for the requisite time, close, replace the cloth. Drive back out of the field and into shade, and develop the negative in the shade. It will still be warm because there's no ventilation, but at least the sun is not adding to it and beating down on the metal of the van.
What u said about the story behind the picture being more important than the image itself couldn't be more true. That is what makes a work timeless. What a great first episode Dan! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the series 😁
@@Abdulaziz2003 It really means a lot to me as I used to live on the beach with a beautiful view of the mountain every morning so yea it does mean a lot.
@@DanMace Even after leaving Cape Town a few years back and now seeing the mountain again as I havent been able to enter the country again due to COVID is amazing, so this really helped me remember all the great memories I had in Cape Town and that picture is priceless and I really appreciate the hard work you put into it.
My friend Mike is really good at what he does :) And it's actually not too complicated - you can do the same thing yourself with some stuff from around your home
That was brilliant... As someone that started off on an 8x10 film camera, I have to say I never thought about turning a truck into a camera obscura! Again brilliant...
Why this doesn’t have millions of views…I don’t know. But I also like to know that currently, I’m one of the few to witness this. It’s like a being in a club of worthy viewers. Dan, incredible job. Your creativity has no limits, and you are very..very special.
What was quite evident in the video, was your “passion”. Innovation, talent, results, etc. to be successful, you need the passion that you possess. Congratulations.
Loved when Ian Ruhter used his van to make photos on sheets of metal using the wet plate technique way back in 2012. Surprised more people hadn't tried it, great work bru!
WOW! Dan that is an incredible picture and you nailed it. It's not about the picture, it's about the experience the picture represents. Keep up the amazing work bru!
The amount of creativity coupled with hard work... And the ability to "see" something before it's created, then implement it... Inspiring in so many ways, inside and out of the photo/video worlds! Amazing, Dan! Also, huge congratulations on the launching of episodes of your show on Discovery+!!!
This is a brilliant and fun project! It reminds me of a TV show that I saw when I was young. The Bloodhound gang was trapped in a truck and used a pinhole camera obscura to find out their location. 😀
The technicity behind this, whether the project itself or the editing, is absolutely mindblowing!! One of the best creatives edits I've seen, can't wait to watch the whole show Dan 🙌🏼
Bru, you are next level. The way you can take something as simple as "taking a picture" and turn it into an engaging and interesting story, filled with conflict, and resolution, is just incredible. This video has just taken you to the absolute next level of RUclips creators! Your dedication is inspiring!! Can’t believe how far your videos have come from before you were with Casey 💪🏼💪🏼 absolutely epic Bru 👌🏼
MY FIRST LIKE EVER ON RUclips goes to this guy! This episode reminded me how, when my brother and I were little, my father used to show us how to develop photos that we use to take, on film, during the day. We had a small kit, that I remember until this day, that we installed in our small bathroom. We were amazed to see how the image appeared on the paper while my brother barely reached the sink level to see the process. I'd love to see the picture you took one day. Great video. It evoked many beautiful memories. :)
Bro thats insane how the heck did that work I'm so like baffled rn! This out of the box thinking and extra 200% you put into you're videos is what will get you big out there.
This is the first time I feel so inspired that I have to write a comment on a video. BRU, this definitely brought that spark of why I love taking photos in the first place. I really needed that Bru thank you so much.
This is the kind of idea I would bring to my professor and he’d just tell me a more practical way to diminish my idea. The fact you don’t compromise art separates artists from professionals. Thank you Dan.
// PROBOBLY ONE OF MY FAVORITE of Dan's vids. I used to do B&W photography million years ago. I appreciate the time and the effort. But most of all I love the idea of snapping what he calls home. Now I've got many ideas of mine... inspiration is a curious thing... 💡 Tx
10 years ago me and friends drove to a festival in a simular truck where we put couches and speakers in the back. On the way home the weather got better. Suddenly the sun started to project an moving image of our surrondings through a small crack. So we just sat there in the sofa, listening to music and watched the incredible scenery that was displayed to us. Really fucking cool. It was upside down but still an amazing experience :)
You can do the same thing in your bedroom by blocking out all the windows then making a small hole. Use a lens from a pair of glasses to make the image sharper 😁
Well, one does have to suffer for their art. You suffered but created something worth talking about, both the image, and the story behind the image. I am glad I never threw out all my old black and white dark room stuff, I bought in the late 70s. Kind of feeling inspired, by your project, to go out and create something in a none digital manner. - Cheers
