    I cannot imagine buying a new boat - the depreciation curve is just too damn steep... In 2013, I bought a 2001 Grady White 265 Express for about 25% of what it cost new... The HPDIs had 800 hours, but everything checked out, and I've enjoyed every minute on it for the last seven years... Best of all, it's paid off and costs only gas, oil, and parts since I do most of the maintenance myself... As long as you do a detailed survey and keep the engine(s) well maintained, buying a used boat can be a great way to go...

    • @juxhinmeminaj3446
      @juxhinmeminaj3446 3 года назад +1

      25% depreciation over 12 years doesn’t sound like much to me. But then again i have no idea about boats, just getting into it now.

    • @catallaxy2000
      @catallaxy2000 3 года назад +7

      @@juxhinmeminaj3446 I paid 25% of what the boat cost new - so, it depreciated 75%... I have made numerous upgrades in the years since, and I have replaced just about everything that isn't permanently installed... Taking all that into account, I could probably sell it today for far more than I paid for it, and I could probably get back a big chunk of what I've paid to keep it up to date - largely because I do most of the work myself...

      Matthew Barton, I would add to your comment about your well thought out purchase that you picked out a boat worth investing your time and money into. Unless it's been thoroughly abused and if it is priced right, it's hard to go wrong with a GW, Mako, Whaler, et al, even at 15+ years old.

    • @miked8227

      @@1223baddad yes I second that, GW are a proven quality product with the main concern being the motors and the wear on them.

    I prefer Walkarounds just because they give the best of both worlds and relatively speaking, some of them are more competitively priced than their center console cousins. My favorite is Striper 230 Walkaround. It's a fishing machine but it also has a decent cabin with plenty of seating space, a table that converts to a bed, a fresh water sink and a porta potti with a pump out. One could easily spend the weekend on that boat. Fish, swim, grill and sleep on the boat and not spend a fortune doing it. It is cheaper than all three center consoles on this video. A Walkaround simply gives more value for your money and more time on the water too, and that's what a real boater wants.

    Was down too the 24 cobia and the 23 tidewater on my boat search. I hit my head on the rocket launchers on the cobia could of ordered boat with out it ,and had one customized. Long story short with the same electronics , the cobia was 30 grand more however it had a 300 compared to the 250 on tidewater it had some little extras but I couldn’t see 30 grands worth. And tidewater has more cockpit. So I’m waiting for TW should be in by May. But the cobia is nice. My TW final cost with custom console cover, and seat covers. Isinglass. Full garmin package including radar, trailer. And tax. 85;600.

    All under 100k without electronics(or very basic), no trailers, and not many features that are usually seen on the boats when you go to check them out at boat shows or dealerships, like high end upholstery, livewell/washdown systems, it’s very hard to get into a boat in that size range under 100k unless you want to have a barebones boat. If it was 15 years ago, not many people had issues with them being basic. Today everyone wants, custom colors, upholstery, the biggest and best electronics (furuno/Garmin units, JL/Fusion audio, custom upholstery and helm chairs) and believe it or not. But that can kill the price of a new boat and push it way past the budget of someone looking to buy. It’s unfortunate because manufacturing costs will be the same or lower, but not labor or technology. That will always get higher and drive the cost up

    I like your videos by the way. And out of these three I would stick with the cobia. They've got a good Hull layup, or at least they used to when they were on by Red Wing. I'm curious about streamline now. I want to look into how they are put together. I want to make sure they're not another Bayliner catastrophe. What a piece of trash that was. Lol. Right now I drive the robalo 242 walk around. It's nice having that cabin to dunk into when you need to, especially for guests. And with the walk around people can still fish the Bow, granted not quite as easily as they can on the center console. I'm grown up offshore and have been on all of them.

    My only warning I’d say to people wanting a pathfinder is to make sure that you really aren’t going outside of the bay. I was new to boating, bought one, and quickly wanted to go into choppier seas for more deep sea fishing. If you’re going to buy brand new get something like the streamline for sure. Pathfinder is a great boat just make sure you know for sure what you want before you buy.
