And this part doesn't really pertain to speedrun strats, but I've experienced plenty of action queue lag where I try to roll or chug and it doesn't actually happen until I try to perform another action. Not sure if the two errors are related, but the system is definitely quite broken in some way. I can't say I've ever experienced the same thing in different games anyway
I love watching speedrunners talk about new discovered techs and glithces. Even if I usualy don't enjoy watching streams of the any% categories, because they are heavily contested and full of resets/quitouts (in some games), I absolutely love listening to people talking about something they are so passionate about, plus the glitches are always impressive.
Speedrunners have *endless* drive for that kind of shit. You can be totally convinced that the game can't be beaten any quicker, and then some 17-year-old discovers another massive skip.

They usually start at semi comprehensible runs like 2-6 hours depending on how big the game is, and the more glitches people find the more insane the speedrun submissions get until you start hearing of 18 minute speedruns of games with an average playthrough of 20 hours.

I remember doing speedruns when LobosJr held the WR for this. I played on xbox at the time since I didn't have a pc capable of an emulator and ended up getting a 35:26 run (which was a new WR) just to watch lobos beat it 3 minutes later on twitch as I had him in the background. Never could submit that time. I have a PC now. And a copy of DkS. This makes me want to speedrun the game again.
The one from Celeste, at the beginning is "The first step" Right before the track at 4:35, it's "Federation" from FTL Unfortunatly, I don't know the one you want, maybe from VA-11 hall-a ? (I don't know this game btw, gonna look at it)
Every piece of software is like this. The sheer number of high profile apps, games, etc. that are held together with scotch tape and chewing gum is baffling.
Well produced video, good explanations with demos. I don’t usually like watching speedrunning using glitches. But once I understand the complexity, and place in that game’s history, I find that I can appreciate, and enjoy the glitched run.

I remember someone mocking me in chat for saying that sub 1 hour all bosses is very likely. He told me it was dumb of me to assume new major glitches would be discovered 9 years after launch.
@@HelmuthGerka right now it definitely isn't possible to sub 1 hour in all bosses. All I was saying is that it wouldn't surprise me if some guy was to find a major glitch that would make it possible.
It doesn't surprise me that homeward is so broken, by the time DS3 came out it was still broken to the point where it had to be patched 3 separate times.

LoZ wrong warping and time travel glitches, SM64 backwards long jumping to get infinite speed to phase through walls, constantly looking down to go faster in Golden Eye. What could be so particularly hellish about a DkS2 speedrun?
@@user-vf3cb7vk8z so I just watched a man use parrying, rolling, and the binocular speed glitch to phase through everything and beat the game in 14ish minutes. Honestly, it reminded me a lot of a Mario 64 speed run, using a speed glitch to pass otherwise hard barriers. I’ll admit though, when he first did to to get into the shaded woods, I was caught off guard, same goes for when he entered the giant memory before the area even loaded.
I always knew homeward was gonna play a part in something huge. Now I have to wonder, would this new glitch have it work in multiplayer? It would probably have some interesting effects if it did...
I don't like speedruns myself but I like people passionately enough to live for speedruns. I have spent the last 15 years or so thinking, writing and talking about Silent Hill 2, so I understand that passion.

Pretty cool vid on an interesting glitch. One minor thing though is that it feels like you wanted to "ease in" people unfamiliar with speedrun jargon when you stop to do a side bit explaining what is a Wrong Warp but, in that case, it was a bit weird that you then presented the specifics of it in Dark Souls instead of coming from the general idea, at least at first. (something like: "wrong warp is when you trigger the game warping you somewhere, but you end up making it take you somewhere unintended. In Dark Souls, you can warp to bonfires etc...."). But eh, minor thing in a video that I DO believe is going to be more popular to people with already some familiarity at least with speedrunning. Great stuff all around, tbh

Sub 20 can of course happen if something new was found, that's a bit of a silly question. As for sub 21 it could theoretically happen, but it's not realistically possible atm. My sum of best was very optimal at around 600 attempts and it was 20:59 😅. Thanks for the kind words!

Unbelievable trick! I am not a speedrunner for Dark Souls, but I am happy to have beaten the game in 3 hours playing with pyromancer. All bosses, of course! It was 4 years ago.
I just love that the action queuing glitch effectively generates a miracle looking fireball. As with all the others I love that it doesn't just break the game and provide the effect with no visuals as you might expect but that GCF explosion around the player was class
I love how to this day every glitch in Dark Souls is just caused by the action queuing system being very slightly broken.
Abusing the action queuing system is the source of glitches in most games generally

Fallout 4 (yeah, that bug nest) also has extremely similar action queue tricks hidden in the crafting system

If you spell swap homeward you DC everyone from your current session, so yes, it does kinda work in multiplayer
