Sorry to hear of your troubles. I was in Luperon in February to March. Luckily I never had problems like you. I slept with my hatch open every night. I hope this criminal gets caught. Richard (Navy translator) is full of crap. Can't trust any locals unfortunately. Lock boat when leaving. Don't keep large sums of cash on boat. Use ATM to take out local pesos is my advise. There is poverty in both the local Dominican population as well as expat community.
Yep now I know it, before all local sailors told all safest :(

@@murrat There's no cover up. They just don't care. These are country officers making 150-200 USD per month if there lucky. And no accountability to the higher ups in the major cities.

По всем признакам это работа ОПГ. Работники марины наводят,левые вычищают лодки, полиция крышует. Почему не взяли карты? Их легко отследить и заблокировать. Почему не взяли электронику? Её тоже можно отследить и тяжело реализовать. Цель ОПГ облегчить бюджет туриста так, чтобы желания оставаться там небыло. Нет пострадавшего - нет расследования и нет проблем. Ни в одной стране мира постоянно работающие группировки не обчищают полностью, а оставляют возможность жертве свалить домой.

Hello I came across this video and it is a shame that you had to live this bad experience in the Dominican Republic, this is not uncommon for tourist to get robbed.
For the most part it is a great country to visit but you do have to be careful of your surroundings, as for the police taking fingerprints of a crime scene that is not necessary the police there is the best in the world, they don't need fingerprints because depending on the crime they know exactly who is responsible and where to find whoever did it. Good luck on all your future adventures stay safe..

Very sorry for your loss. But one thing is very hard to understand to me. You are on your second circumnavigation and and just living cash, spread out all over the boat when every cruising boat has gazillion hidy holes where you can hide your valuables like money or passports. We spent once 7 months in Luperon with our children and it was the safest place we have been to in the entire Caribbean. Nobody was locking the dinghy, my children run on streets of Luperon day or night and people were extremely friendly. There was someone once during our stay whoo would swim to some boats and took some stuff, but unfortunately nobody had cash laying all over the boat for easy pickings. It was one guy, just like in your case, but i din't bad mouth the whole town for it, nor did the people that had stuff stolen. Twice some french dudes were trying to steal my dinghy in Le Marin, Martinique, but they didn't because it was locked with 3/8 chain and a pad lock. Never once I blame all the french cruisers or condemn the whole town. I will understand that could happen to some newbies , but to you, it looks that you haven't learn your lesson yet. We stayed in Le Marin 8 months. The problem is nobody warn us about this current situation. We were 6th.. this year

The Dominican Republic police do not investigate, receive complaints or reports and therefore do not make reports or give copies. Those in charge of this type of situation are the local Prosecutor's Office who are the only ones to investigate, receive complaints and complaints from robbery victims. Still they do nothing. I was the victim of the cloning of my United States credit card, I gave the prosecutor the times and places where my credit card was used, including a letter from my bank and he never investigated or communicated with me ever. Yes. I mention when i become international problems they have to move. For country government change all authorities in area it is easy task. Any international relationships especially when countries has no visas agreement to get status of dangerous for tourists it meant HUGE loses. If they can't protect rights of tourists this status means no insurances cover the visits, very difficult to travel agencies to manage this bussines, it means dramatically reduction of visitors in area. There are many examples in Egypt, Turkey. They had big infrastructure and 60 percent less visitors. Many businesses closed. We were in Egypt, they almost all speak Russian and no russians...
I'm sorry to hear about what happened to you. I been in the DR 5 years and no problems. But thefts are pretty common.
In your case you got to have someone watch the boat or pay a local to watch it. 500 pesos (10 USD) and you would be fine for the night
Things do tend to walk away here lol.
And the police at times are unmotivated. They get paid very low low wages. The good news is violent crime is low compared to other countries.

Сергей, приветствую! После ваших видео начал читать по вопросу. Вычитал: схема такова- берётся лодка ближняя к манграм, и грабится, случись чего- легче свалить. Лодки которые подальше, и имеют по пути к манграм другие лодки (с которых могут перехватить) уже не в группе риска. Это Ваш случай? Или грабят все подряд?

Я думаю без английского будет реально сложно, хотя бы на бытовом уровне
Добавьте теги в описание под видео, так и нам легче расшаривать, не прийдётся придумывать свои теги, и ютуб лучше будет продвигать видео.

После перехода в эти соцсети у меня пустая строка в которой мне надо выдумывать #хештеги для лучшей обработки роботом этих соцсетей моего сообщения. И мне приходится напрягаться вспоминая выжимку из того что вы сказали, после этого я лезу в словари и гугл, что бы более или менее правильно написать названия и понятия, что бы другие люди при поиске чего то коррелирующего с вашей темой натыкались на мой репост на ваше видео. Но я могу неправильно вас понять или что то упустить и поэтому обычно стараюсь смотреть на теги в тексте под видео, у вас их здесь нет, поэтому мне пришлось немного напрячься что бы написать тегом место про которое вы говорите, и ещё пару тегов. Поверьте мне это лениво и я не всегда так подробно расписываю теги для поисковой машины, а на распространение видео это влияет.

For Another tourist on way to poor country, try ask expats living in area not salers, ready info for visitors ,in DR we have tourist police which start all process not a local police. And please do not have cash if you dont need, in DR you can pay with card and ATMs are in multi places.. if you have cash- hide it very well, i was both owner before and know its multi places to hide cash and documents 🤗🤗🤗 try be a smart travler and you get only good experience with you ..enjoy trip guys

I have been to luperon many times,we always stayed in the luperon beach resort hotel (now closed down due to corruption and room break ins}. we heard lots of tales of boats being broken into and the police are not interested.THe police ARE interested,only because they are in on it!!!!

I'm terribly saddened by what happened; however, the actions of a few bad apples should not reflect on the area or the locals. I've known the people from this area all my life and visited as well, and find them to be among the most wonderful and welcoming of any place on earth. The Luperon Bay itself is a wonderful natural reserve and I really suggest people continue visiting, exercising proper care with valuables, etc. Which is no different from what you would do in Paris or London with pickpockets.
Unfortunately it is very cancerous for sailors, so people should know risk at least. Now all that shit the hide very well

As dominican myself after hearing this story I feel annoyed , this is one of the most dangerous countries in the Caribbean. Police is pretty bad tho so I'm not amazed about the response of the police (most of the time police don't care or they are involved in the incident). My consent is silent coverage of the crime by sailors, hiding the truth from people by deleting the information and punish people who did negative report. I think is the best way if locals start to send messages to minister of tourism to clean this fraud pool. No tourist, bad situation
