This is likely the ballsiest and most courageous film-maker I've ever seen. Between movies like The Lost Boys, Prince of Tides, The Client, A Time to Kill, and (especially!!) 8mm... Joel Schumacher makes movies that ethically punch you right in the gut and refuse to let you off of the hook.
This was a great interview. Joel was not only a humble and nice guy, but a talented filmmaker. He directed some classics like Phone Booth, St. Elmos Fire, 8MM and Falling Down. RIP JOEL
Not sure if he's a chomo, but he's definitely gay. If you watch his movies... many of them include either baby-faced kids, pretty boys, beef cake, all-the-above or basically other various forms of homo-erotica.
RIP Joel Schumacher you have giving us a lot of fascinating movies we always love to watch again and again and I would rather watch your Batman movies more than the Zack Synder DC movies he directed because you are better at making personality than Zack Synder.
RIP to a great director who was just following warner bros stupid, idiotic orders to make batman more family friendly. THEY are the true ones to blame for the outcome.
Rip to an absolute legend. Your movies made an impact on my childhood.
RIP - I a truly eclectic and bold filmmaker.
The Lost Boys, St. Elmo's Fire, 8MM, Falling Down are some of my favorite films of all time. He's a very talented director.
Phone Booth is great too. :)
I agree, plus Flatliners
RIP such a talent 🙏.
Director retros are what I love the most, especially the ones I've studied so thoroughly. I hope there's 100s of these.

I really like Mr. Schumacher. One of my favorite people in the movie business.
Best director to grace this world. A true inspiration for all those young wannabes like that Spielberg man!
Whenever I look at Joel, I see my grandma, she looks like him a lot, even the tender smile with the eyes. A pity I won´t get to know him anymore...
Part 2???? This man is amazing. I could've watched him talk for hours. Lost Boys = all time favorite! Thank You Joel!
+PennieRoyal Really? I think I heard something like that.
no hes not..... its all false.
Not sure if he's a chomo,

@PennieRoyal no he's not if you think he is do you have any proof?
Great director.i love him. Batman forever was awesome
Miaminight agreed
You are right, Batman Forever is great !
I really want to meet this man one day soon
Did you manage to do it before he died ?
Ammar 1999 I unfortunately did not. Very disappointed.
@@Tgogators you responded to someone who left you a comment after 6 years? DAMN THAT'S CRAZY
@@vladsview194 Sure, why not?
It’s not often someone replies to a reply from your comment from a long time ago.
It's so hard to believe that he's no longer with us. He made some of my all-time favorite movies growing up
I'm not even done with part 1 and I can't wait for part 2, thanks for this upload
Was there ever a Part 2 Dave?
Hit and miss director, but he always comes off likeable; and his commentary tracks are some of the best in the business.
6 years later n still no part 2. wanted to hear him talk about A Time To Kill n 8mm
Where's Part 2?
Sadly, I never happened.
For the record, Part 2 has not yet been shot. Someday soon, I hope.
5 years late but when will Part 2 come out, big fan of this series!
And now, it will never be. 😔
Ohhhh okay RIP Joel
Rest in Peace, Joel. Bless you!🙏🏳️🌈
R.I.P Joel Schumacher
Thanks for this.
Hey there! Where is part 2?
RIP Joel Schumacher you have giving us a lot of fascinating movies we always love to watch again and again and I would rather watch your Batman movies more than the Zack Synder DC movies he directed because you are better at making personality than Zack Synder.
wheres part 2?
David Poland is a moron. There is no part 2.
Great interview but where is Part 2? Shouldn’t leave us hanging all these years?
Why is part 2 absent ?
Falling Down is his best movie
Great interview, intimate, real, in your face! Dude, get the research down though.
Where is part two. Thanks
Sadly, we never got to it.
Batman and Robin was at least very visually interesting to his credit
where is part 2? i also dont like that pretty much all of his early 70s got glossed over. i'm interested in how he "turned black".
RIP to a great director who was just following warner bros stupid, idiotic orders to make batman more family friendly. THEY are the true ones to blame for the outcome.
What!???
you gave me a sad, but I forgive you lol
ST. ELMO'S FIRE didn't deserve one good review.
Where’s part 2 ??
Sadly, it died with Joel.
Was afraid you were going to say that. Such a shame.@@dp30
