Joel definitely got a lot of flack from what happened in 1997 unfairly. I've always liked him and seemed so gentlemanly in his interviews. He made some amazing films in his career and it is a shame we still didn't get the Batman Forever that was originally intended or the proposed darker 5th instalment that was scrapped.
Batman Forever's original script sounded like an awesome movie. Joel Schumacher was an amazing director. His Batman films and vision were butchered by the studio, not unlike the poor treatment of Tim Burton before him and the butchering of Zack Snyder's films after him

That’s just cuz the times were changing and the movie was so studio driven but Joel was always a good director

well if it weren't for the failure of batman and robin, we likely wouldn't have the dark knight trilogy
