Peggy Fleming was the reason why I started watching figure skating. I had never seen anything more graceful, elegant or more stunning than when she graced the ice. Her movements with her arms seemed like they were like the wings of a butterfly …such perfection such grace truly magnificent.
Of all the figure skaters, of all time, Peggy is by far, my favorite. I grew up watching her and wanting to be like her. Her style is understated elegance and very soft--never relying on shear power to complete an element. You can see a difference in Peggy's skating and the skating of today and the discipline that it took her to learn the moves perfectly to be judged in the actual figures. This element is missing from today's skating and it seems to be all about jumps and other various moves. Don't get me wrong, I admire the athletic feats it takes to do those moves, but I just think figure skating has lost a lot of it's beauty because athletes are not required to be judged on figures any more. This comes out in Peggy's skating . . . every move is absolutely perfect. This was a fantastic number for Peggy, especially because it personally meant so much to her and that comes out in the performance!
Ms. Fleming's grace & beauty is eternal. A flawless, breathlessly beautiful, angelic performance. We would expect nothing else... from her. Such a wonderful gift... to see our princess ballerina on ice once again. 💕💕💕
This is why I fell in love with figure skating years ago...when the jumps were graceful and built fluidly into the program and not thrown in for technical competition.
After one of Bonaly's temper tantrums because she wanted her strong physical skills to make up for the parts she was missing as a figure skater, Peggy gracefully and truthfully explained: "Figure Skating is about more than just jumps". And there are people who still don't get that. THIS is the beautiful, breathtaking part of figure skating...especially women's. It's like a gorgeous ballet.
For me its boring.....women's figure skating has changed thanks to athletic skaters like Dorothy Hamill, Janet Lynn, Elaine Zayak.....and let's not forget Tonya Harding....the greatest one of them all who's athleticism is still unsurpassed.
Peggy Fleming was always mean to Zayak. I think Zayak would say something like "Well....she looked like she MIGHT do a single jump.....no....no...I guess not."
I thought she was 34 here. I had my math wrong. She was 49!!!!!! She certainly did not look her age her and I'm shocked that she was able to do those camel spins. Also, this kind of technique from the women of having the back and arms symmetrical for stronger component scores for pleasing aesthetic. Dorothy Hamill had the exact same technique. The last person I know to have this kind of technique is Michelle Kwan. After her, there was no one else. I know Gracie Gold is trying to emulate it.
And we need quad jumps? No! We need skaters like Peggy. She skates with grace and beauty as if floating along the ice. Simple, beautiful elegance.
да!
Before Michelle there was ONLY PEGGY....I am speechless and tearful seeing this magnificent performance. BRAVO
Peggy Fleming was a great skater....but we must remember the legendary Tonya Harding...the greatest of them all.
She is so Beautiful and graceful
Wow, this graceful and gracious performance is what figure skating is all about! Thank you Ms. Fleming for all you have brought to figure skating!
when you take the ridiculous triple and quad jumps, THIS is what you're left with. Simple yet beautiful and elegant figure skating. Thank you, Peggy:)
This is what skating is supposed to be. Elegant beautiful.

I forgot how beautiful this woman was, and is. The bows at the end with her teary smiles are breathtaking.

Wow...49 she was back then but you wouldn't know it from the way she moved!! So graceful....it isn't all about the Salchow and Lutzes!
I'd rather watch Tonya Harding.
Stunningly beautiful. She is a dream on skates.
Arghh she’s so beautiful. And that DRESS.
Wow she was 49 years old back then but she looked much younger, like 35-40. Now she still does look really good.
