They had on mud masks so people were trying to cry black face? This was a cute episode but Hulu wanted to & did pull it but keeps up Family Guy which is filled with rape joke, racists crap,& pedophila. But this episode which actually dealt with both interracial love as well as older woman & younger man was pretty good. I used to watch this shows as a little girl when I visited my grandma and aunt to this day I find it heartwarming.

This episode specifically isn't a problem, taking it down is unneccessary, but taking it down is also an affront to the series which pushed the boundries on social issues on television in the 80's, addressing interracial marriage, AIDS, sexual orientation, and love and sex after 50. It's a terrible overreaction.

This is one of my favorite shows. I could really careless about them taking this down now after everyone who would watch it has already seen it🤷🏾
However, I do find it curious that HULU streamed this episode all this time knowing there was implication of B/F, but never saw fit to remove it until AFTER a man was killed. As for these Black actors: they weren't ignorant of the implication being made here or the backlash it could receive, but they likely weren't going to challenge it & forfeit the opportunity to add this show to their resumes, especially since either of them could've been replaced. Personally, I think if the writers had truly meant the scene to be harmless, then the mud could've easily been a different color, like blue or orange. That would've still been hilarious & the scene wouldn't have been so dated.
Brown mud slapped on vvhite faces during one of the only episodes featuring Black actors in the show's duration ... Come on. Hindsight is LITERALLY 20/20😉
It was a poor joke & they could've done better.

Corlena James1 Are you out in left field!!!!!!! With all four Girls being democrats, do you really think any one of them would have done this episode if they considered the two Girls as being in black face, especially since democrats seem to think they have ownership of knowing who is racist, what is racist, etc.? The Golden Girls pushed the button on whatever the topic was while the show was in production. Black face wasn’t an issue at the time, unless, of course, you count the time Ted Danson wore black face to a party when he and Whoopi Goldberg were dating, and she thought Ted was hilarious in black face. Democrats are that way, though. They see something as being funny when THEY do it, but when someone else does it, look out!!!!!!!

Not people. Corporations. There needs to be as little risk as possible to the profit operation, in the view of a capitalist. And if that means cutting out too much, then so be it.
The fact that this is a symbolic act rather than a structural one makes it even more appealing to big business: they can make a "statement" without having to address potential problems at the company. This is why politicians and legislators also prefer kneeling and appauding to addressing the problem with legislation.
No real person asked for this. No leftist wanted this. No black person wanted this. This was a capitalist decision through and through.

      I must call you out.
      Corporations are not lifeless entities.
They are run by people; so therefore it is People that make the decision, be it one or many.
Your basic point is spot on:
The fact that this is a symbolic act rather than a structural one makes it even more appealing to big business: they can make a "statement" without having to address potential problems at the company.
But I will add: ...and to remove the possible financial backlash....
But you couldn't be more wrong with:
No real person asked for this. No leftist wanted this. No black person wanted this.
Hell, it MIGHT have even been a Conservative leaning group within that pulled the plug.
      Because as you say:
This was a capitalist decision through and through.
It befuddles me that they cave so readily to so few. One or two emails; one or two tweets.
Or as it may be in this case; just the Fear that one or two may speak out against the product/art/lyric/etc.
These outraged minority have not anywhere the numbers to effect the financial change that is so feared.
In fact the opposite has occurred many times.
The greatest and most spectacular example being the TV Show "Married with Children".
Please don't pass the buck that these decisions have no human culpability.
It dehumanizes the process and lets the real offenders walk unscathed.
That helps the 'cause' to continue.
      Accountability; that's what counts.
      Thank you.

Golden Girls was ahead of its time; very forward thinking. They weren't afraid to tackle sensitive subjects; racism, anti-semitism, homophobia, suicide, etc. without being sickeningly p.c. They made us laugh and did it with class, putting the girls in awkward situations we could relate to. Sadly, they could not pass the 2020 sniff test. People need to find better things to do with their time than combing through old tv sitcoms, hoping to find racism, etc. Idiots.

It's seriously annoying that some people have a problem with this episode. It was funny. The Golden Girls is my absolute favorite show. It addresses racial issues, Gay issues, there was an episode about Aids, Alzheimer's disease, homelessness, these are all things that are a part of life. The beauty of the show is that - in the end, the moral message always shines through. For people who choose to be ignorant, they will NOT get the point.....simply because they don't want to.

Racism is not funny in real life. People get killed for breathing in public. Fuck whoever wanted to see blackface on network television. I don't see any black shows using it for laughs. Then making a black woman the privileged racist when black women are literally at the bottom of the totem poll in this country. It's EXTREMELY offensive, but it was made for white viewers, so it's to be expected.

@John Huffington they actually did , but what they did do that Golden girls also did was contextualize the reason why people were against it. Arguably Fresh Prince did it better since the person who was against the marriage ( I think it was Will's mom ) simply wanted to protect her sister from people who were actually against the union. Golden girls did contextualize each side but it was a little bit rushed .

The concern is that Blanche and Rose wearing mud masks suggests blackface. Now, this is actually not what is being depicted in the episode (Rose and Blanche are NOT trying to pretend they are Black), but with all the controversy about old tv shows with blackface depictions, Disney felt uncomfortable having this episode air on Hulu. Disney currently owns the majority ownership in Hulu, which has the streaming rights for Golden Girls (but I think the on-air syndication rights are owned by a different company). Disney has a long history of creating racist movies/cartoons, and the founder, Walt Disney, was infamous for his racism and anti-Semitism; so, the company is very sensitive about having any appearance of racism. Personally, I do not find this episode offensive, and I have never heard anyone complain about this episode, but I understand Disney's decision.

I mean if I had children and they were getting married, I wouldn't care about their race. My main concern is the age difference and how long they've been dating, not the color of one's skin. I believe all races should love whoever they want to love as long as they're happy, that's what matters in my opinion.

What *other* shows are going to be censored and removed now because of hyper sensitivity, I wonder. This is so sad and so stupid. Hopefully Hulu will wise up and not cave in like wimps anymore, and restore the "Mixed Blessings" episode soon.
