@@mierdevries9643 I'm just saying there are a lot of characters and a lot of lines, so if he did every single NPC, just like the original campaign, he wouldn't have a lot of other time for other things. I'm sure he cares a lot about all of these characters, but that doesn't mean he can't care for the VA's who play them. I mean, he's a Voice Actor himself, and he likely knows most of them, if not all by now, on a personal level. He's not gonna be sour just because they decided for him not to play every. Single. I started at the beginning freaking out, made a large jump with the same thought, then increasing more when I found out and it continued to get more intense
On the one hand, that is sweet, on the other, I really hope he doesn't devalue his irreplaceable role in this. He has a tendency to devalue his own worth in phrases that, while kind and sincerely community minded, often put himself down and I notice that people usually just accept that as good because they like how humble he is. I can't help but disagree with him, it IS his world, and we have helped build it with him in our imaginations and so have the players with their choices, and the artists with their interpretations, but I can't help but want him to take some credit for himself and his wonderful mind. It took me a second to register this .. Delilah Briarwood is Azula. I can't even express how excited I am for her. Azula has been my absolute favorite villain for years, and a big part of that is that incredibly sinister confidence that Griffin brought to the role. Perfect choice.
I audibly screamed when I saw David Tennant, AND Dominic Monaghan?!?! Not to mention all of the rest of the exceedingly talented and perfectly cast actors. Holy crap, I cannot contain my excitement.

I picked up on CR with Campaign 2, so I only have a basic knowledge of Vox Machina and the most loved NPCs from it, but damn... I love that they went from voice-actors who play dnd, to a dnd business who also have voice-acting jobs, to voice-acting the dnd characters they started with.
I got pretty emotional seeing David Tennant as one of the revealed voice actors for the show. My Mom was obsessed with anything David is in, and I know that this would have been something that she would have watched with me just because he is in it, lol. She passed away last March, so seeing him pop up after having not heard about him in a while kinda hit me in the feels. I couldn't be more excited for this show and it only means more to me now. Thank you guys for such a wonderful gift!

I'm sure she would have loved watching this with you. As someone who recently lost a parent, there's all those little things that you wish they could have experienced, and that's a fond way of remembering them. All my hugs, and we'll be with you. "Be pleased."
I'm still holding on that they got Stephen Colbert to voice character or two. But if Stephen Colbert is not there and they got David Tennant instead, that is more than a fair trade.
Why is it such a big shock? He was a voice on that Rooster Teeth animated show a few years back. If anything it was incredibly likely he'd do something like this.
This would be the first time Gilmore has ever been in a closet without saying, "trash, trash, no, throw it out, no, no, ...did you buy this from me? Didn't think so. Trash, no..."
"David Tennant's in our show? WHAT!?" Says the dialogue director for his most recent animated TV series voice acting gig. Also it's going to be Great seeing Tennant as "General Kreig" especially if the series relates the events leading to Pike's white hair.
To be fair, getting him to work on an official Disney production voicing one of the most famous Scottish Disney characters is one thing. Getting him to star in your Kickstarter-funded adult series based on a D&D campaign? That's another.
@@richardbrooks9603 And that Amazon money! The Twitch money is small potatoes in relation to funding their entire production company, they're not exactly just gamers streaming from their house....

I nearly cried seeing Dominic Monaghan. Lord of the Rings is so close to my heart and one of the catalysts for the high fantasy genre and DND itself. It feels so right and wonderful to have someone who brought that story to life also be apart of this.
They've got Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, Game of Thrones, Harry Potter, Warcraft, Gears of War, Doctor Who, Harley Quinn, Crossing Swords, Avatar: The Last Airbender... the list of franchises goes on and on.
These behind the scenes vids keep bringing tears to my eyes. Like what even, David Tennant? A hobbit? Game of Thrones folks??? It's amazing to have watched this rag-tag group of voice actors bring their universe to life. Just like their campaigns, starting off as a small group of adventurers, to becoming god-like heroes. It's insane and I'm so proud to just be able to watch it happen. I'm proud of them as fellow human beings achieving such a thing!
The casting is so perfect I am in literal tears. The last time I was this excited over casting news was in 1999, when news of LOTR cast started emerging, and every choice was straight from my "Perfect casting is a pipe dream, but wouldn't it be cool if Peter Jackson somehow ended up casting actor X as character Y anyways?" -list. Yeah, this feels EXACTLY like that.

You know what I love about all of this? Besides the careful, deliberate thought to cast each character just so... The fact that established show producers turned this project down, for whatever reason, so the Critical Role team asked for help from the fandom, and are now making something brilliant where they maintain control and got fantastic talent! So many execs must be kicking themselves in the crotch lol
My thoughts exactly. Whover dinied this request probably is going to get fired. I'm also happy. It gives Critical Role more power over what happens instead of some big corp
@@kp-legacy-5477 That is a "detail" I was thinking about. I think we all hope, for what it represents, that they are keeping control over their work, their "world"...
@@kp-legacy-5477 Distribution is tricky. Financing even trickier. Having a proof of large and very invested fanbase and the money from the kickastarter gave them the leverage to choose the best distribution deal for the show. If they had decided to stay independent, we would have gotten ONE animated season of VM and that would have been it. While it would have been a labour of love, CR would not have made any extra money from it. Now we get at least two seasons, CR retained full creative control of the process and the show, and the extra money from the Amazon deal will be funneled into the CR company giving the cast financial stability and enabling them to improve the CR experience even more. Like, the new set looks AMAZING, and I am sure the money for it came from the Amazon deal. They also hired Robbie for at least a part of C3 (which was only THE BEST DECISION EVER!!!), and hinted that for everyone's sanity they will take a week off every month while still airing new content. I interpreted that as a guest DM/DMs running oneshots / secondary campaign once every month (and obvs those guest DMs need to get paid for their time and hard work). Yeah, they went corporate, but on their own terms, and they are using the corporate money to improve CR content even further. IMO, this is a win-win situation.
I absolutely love voice actors handpicked by voice actors. The CR crew has lived these stories and these characters, and they know EXACTLY what they're looking for. You know it's going to be an amazing product when you can see just how passionate they are.
Not just voice actors, either. So many of them are voice directors as well and I would have loved to be a fly on the wall in the room when they were trying to decide what kinds of people they'd want to have to audition and who else was on their list of potential actors.
Very impressive cast, I was not expecting Tennant in there at all! It keeps me hopeful that we might get Mark Hamill as The Whispered One eventually....
Okay, I have to admit. When David Tennant starts introducing himself after being introduced as General Krieg, it just made me smile and smile and smile
SO excited for this. It’s going to give a whole new definition to a “passion project”. No corporate meddling, no arguing with a book author on little details, just an awesome group of people bringing their own world to life. This could be my own bias as a fan talking, but I think this series could top Invincible or Harley Quinn in terms of popularity.
I started watching CR when I was 16. I’m now almost 22, living a completely different life, and still loving CR in every twist and turn my life’s journey takes me down. Seeing it evolve into something so huge, and so accessible to people who have never seen the show before… wow.
David Tennent is extremely supportive of these types of works, it's why he ended up doing "risky" shows like Final Space and Gen:Lock. Passion projects that got lucky enough to get the funding to be more than just "internet shows" that their respective creators were known for. He is a great example of someone who doesn't allow their past successes to limit his future roles.

I have never made a comment on youtube an probably never will again. This made me tear up. I have followed Critical Role for years now and the love for the story, the setting and each other that the Crit Roll cast have for each other is amazing.
I was a bit caught off guard by some of the changes (Uriel, Keeper Yennen, and Archibald Desnay in particular) but not necessarily in a bad way. A lot of the evolution of character design has been delightful to see. I think at some point Sam described the stream itself as a sort of writers room first draft, so it makes sense that many things will change in the adaptation process. I can't express how thrilled I am to finally see Krieg in the flesh, and Ripley has always been a personal favorite
Yeah it's jarring obviously, but you have to expect even Matt didn't always know where a character he created would end up going, and want to make some adjustments now with the benefit of having the whole story laid out.
@@cartoonking1789 I was thinking that as well. Krieg being pre-stream fit for the slow burn tabletop narrative, but for a scripted show that just screams Conclave intro to me. Could also mean that they might age him up to be on par with his colleagues (trying to avoid spoilers, even though I know you know)
@@thehikingviking2049 yeah will keep it hush hush for newbies. ;) But I agree since he is appearing in the show and seems to have a bigger role than before I think he’s going to set up future events. @@reggieM2w2 It would be fun to make a clip with signature pieces of NPC-dialogue that made it into the show almost unchanged and turn it into a quotes reel with the scene from the animation on screen and Matt's original line from the critical role stream. Depending on how strict they will go after short snippets of the show used for such clips for copyright violations (I guess they'd need to do more there than with the original show, the animation being a multimillion dollar production with amazon having their money in there as well), I'd bet there will be people from the usual fan channels who'll try to make something like this

Yep I totally cried.
Yes
On the one hand, that is sweet, on the other, I really hope he doesn't devalue his irreplaceable role in this. He has a tendency to devalue his own worth in phrases that, while kind and sincerely community minded, often put himself down and I notice that people usually just accept that as good because they like how humble he is.
I can't help but disagree with him, it IS his world, and we have helped build it with him in our imaginations and so have the players with their choices, and the artists with their interpretations, but I can't help but want him to take some credit for himself and his wonderful mind.

I almost fell out of my chair when David Tennant came on screen lol, that was a HUGE surprise. Ugh, all these voices sound so phenomenal. I absolutely cannot wait 😍
The Doctor, Merry the hobbit, and The Hound in a project together sounds like some sort of fan fiction crossover..
I'm actually crying! My mind has been blown over and over again watching this video! The cast they've assembled, from Logic to Darin DePaul to Indira Varma (I love this woman ever since I saw her in Rome) to everyone else, is amazing. I hope they make the entire adventures of VM into the series, because now I wanna hear Ryshan and Vecna and the Raven Queen. This got me so hyped.
And here I was, thinking the best thing to happen today was that I got my Kickstarter reward.
This was my reaction as well. Especially for Indira Varma and David Tennant.
Me too!! I audibly gasped through tears at some of these amazing castings!!!
I'll be honest, I don't recognize a single one. 😅But if the crew likes them, I'm sure they're great.
@@RickKoeppen Not even the ones who have been on the show?
Holy shit, this cast! When David Tennant showed up I just started saying "What?" at ever-increasing volume.
Great to see some unsurprising names (Felicia, Khary, Anjuli, Darin etc) as well as the incredible cast members who are new to the world of CR.
Also, another great video by Chris Lockey and co!
"Just a simple homegame"
We all know that Matt has the range, but seeing this amazing cast they brought in to play all the characters he's brought to life for years really makes me realize the amount of work Matt gives to this show.
I might have actually screamed with excitement with some of these voice actors.
I know right !!
I can’t believe it’s almost here!! It feels like yesterday that they announced the kickstarter!
but the wait felt like 2 years

Mu lol lllll mom
Speak for yourself about the wait time lol. But I am excited my contribution was able to help create this.
Excellent choice for Alura, such a brilliant actress.
Since we get to see Krieg I wonder what else will be moved around in the story. I Hope we still get the Slavers Take arc
So that makes me think they’ll rearrange things to fit with the changes of starting with the Briarwood arc. I Hope they keep the climactic finishes for the Conclave arc though.
While I love the cast that's been announced, I desperately want to see a cut of just Matt playing every character.
They actually have one! Its called critical role. He voices all of them its insane lol
That sounds like DVD special features material
@@reggieM2w2 It would be fun to make a clip with signature pieces of NPC-dialogue that made it into the show almost unchanged and turn it into a quotes reel with the scene from the animation on screen and Matt's original line from the critical role stream. Depending on how strict they will go after short snippets of the show used for such clips for copyright violations (I guess they'd need to do more there than with the original show, the animation being a multimillion dollar production with amazon having their money in there as well), I'd bet there will be people from the usual fan channels who'll try to make something like this
Including all of Vox Machina. Just Matt talking to himself all day long!
i cannot get over how PERFECT the casting is especially for ripley and delilah absolutely incredible
I’ve rewatched this video multiple times just to hear Darin scream “DEATH TO THE DE ROLOS”
I like how they're taking their campaign and creating a more cohesive story out of it rather than just copying it verbatim. I'm so stoked for this I can't wait
I kept going "YOU GOT DAVID?! YOU GOT DOMINIC?! YOU GOT STEPHANIE?! YOU GOT GREY?!" I'm literally in tears I cannot wait for this IT'S ALMOST HERE Y'ALL
“It’s not just my world, it’s our world.” - Matt the creator
Much too humble.
I love Matt's attitudes, so many want to ignore other part in giving live to a creation and want to hold so tightly they kill it. But Matt got it right and I expect it to thrive and be fantastice.
