Yess that's inspiration for you & it can motivate you to try it, I'm no professional artist however I did start drawing since I was a kid & it runs through my family as well and everyone has their own skills but now I started something new which is drawing storyboards & animating 2D and freelance it takes a long time but let me tell you it's worth it if you try it and put the effort anything is possible you just have to be inspired and motivated
I don't know how you do to do video on such specific theme that are EXACTLY what people struggle with. A lot of video talk about big picture stuff - but you do videos that help on thing people struggle with but no one thought about documenting. A true gem in the RUclips educational space. This is exactly what I was looking for right now ! I feel like this is a very important thing that I am personally struggling with ( and maybe other too ). Getting that rough pass right is something I just learned was so important in the process - not just some random sketch. Before, I'd use thing like the hipless-stickman and get the motion really right but then totally STUCK once I had to add details. And it really took me a lot of time before realizing that, because I was impatient and solely focused on the motion without thinking of the next step. So this is truly a lifesaver man ! THANK YOU ! And I never feel like I recommended this channel enough T-T
Great video! I think I normally go with the loose style for my first passes. Hats of for creating a animation with each style! Shows how much work you put into your videos!
John 3:16 ; For God so loved the world, that He gave His only begotten Son; that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life.
When something is hard, it is something you improve at by doing. When easy, you will not learn. Learn gesture by doing hard things. Delaying hard practice is delaying learning
Man, you totally nailed why my last animation project in Uni (first year) was so tricky and unfun for me. I had been using a sort of F/G hybrid...and for someone that is still trying to understand his life drawing and anatomy....this was really hard. Like, tearfully stressful and restricted how loose i was thinking. I wanted to be loose but i was thinking analytically...which really a problem. Thanks for making this showcase of techniques, I will try working with the simlar methods then perhaps apply F to a later pass.
Thank you for taking the time to make this the best you could. I have bad adhd and hearing people pause for too long or be too slow can make lectures impossible to pay attention to, and even in school I often just use textbooks and self teach. You keep your flow going and it helps a lot.
Its been years and this taught be something so valueable! I've been doing stikman animation and never tried this shoulder and hips version. This will change my animation forever!
tysm! I draw with cursor so I've faced some struggles with animating. This helped me find my style, and just the way you show yourself drawing everything in this video gave me motivation to start right away! Thanks for the help! I really appreciate it !
i've been studying your expressions lecture and i've been able to draw heads and faces way faster now without feeling so constrained in guidlines. today i'm gettin the hang with poses from this one and i just wanted to say thank you for these! you're awesome!
My goodness you convey weight and momentum so well. Also if you're animating a story board that much the industry should really call it an animatic and even then it sounds like it's almost just doing the rough pass the way you described it. Really silly of them to put that skill on the story board
I tried doing a bit of animation. I did a hybrid of D & F which how I do my illustration works usually; having bad anatomy fundamentals with a dash of perfectionism ended up with me taking upwards of 2 hours for a single panel first pass haha. Maybe I'll explore when I do this again, B & C sounds appealing and fun to do.
I'm so glad I found this video. Animation looked fun as heck, so I decided to try and storyboard and animate a baseball player pitching a baseball, but I've had major issues keeping this consistent and natural.
Its fun that he makes incredible animation scketches on the video and finalizes it with stop-motion animation. Great work man, i hope to learn more from you!
Your videos are so helpful. Thank you for making them. You explain and show things so well and clearly. I'm a complete beginner when it comes to animation and I feel very overwhelmed, I feel like I'm not cut out for this at all. But your videos are really helping.
This is exactly the video I was looking for. I wanted to draw quick-to-test animations for my game characters and I'm not good at drawing , most videos on youtube are about drawing really professional art and animator. This video was perfect for me as a game dev.
thank you so much this what i really looking for . when animating i'm allways concern with a good drawing rather than story or movement first , really worth it to bought you gumroad video !!
As a novice drawer I am confident using approaches D, E, F, H, and I; however, as an animator, the A, B, and C approaches are more comfortable for me to do. I've done storyboards using the Skeleton approach but with the movement and fluidity of H and I because I am very familiar with human and nonhuman anatomy and motion in general. I hope to practice F and G in the future, but only once I have A to E down. Thanks, Tonika Pantoja!
This video was super helpful! I want to learn how to animate so that I can improve the quality of my videos, and I think that using one of these shorthand methods will make it easier for me to conceptualize the movement and acting! I especially like the "flour sack and sausages" lol
Novice here, I noticed that F and G looked not only stiff(like you said) but also heavier like the where larger or wearing armour, and vice versa with H and I
Oh man, you almost scared me when you said you did 'torso then head'. But then you said 'head then torso' is also viable, almost made me think I was do roughs incorrectly.
Honestly just do anything that gives you the most autonomy. I like doing it that way first because I personally have problems figuring things out if they dont feel planted to the ground - so I force myself to do that. It may help people, but others might have a different approach.
This is awesome man! I’ve really been studying anaromy and so forth, but have been struggling with a shorthand to produce consistent forms. This helps! 👌🏾
Great vid! I have a 2D animation class I'm in and I'm animating humanoid characters so we'll see what I go with. I have to make a short that is about 3-5 minutes long, which sounds like a lot actually lol
@@david83597 Well, I said 'great vid'; not 'great class.' I would take these vids (and any other you see online) as sound advice from practiced art veterans rather than the keys to the kingdom. There really isn't an easy solution or magic trick to being able to execute on drawing well. Also, watching someone draw isn't as invaluable as you're making it sound.
I express my thanks for the video, I have shared in hopes to bring awareness to your guides. Interesting that despite having little knowledge when I was beginning to learn to draw, I have used D, H and F as practice for poses back in 2012.
There’s a lot of great resources that can break anatomy down. I personally love the Proko video courses because he goes into detail, explaining every bit. I also like Force Drawing Human Anatomy by Michael Mattesi. He breaks down each section by color and function. Lastly, Figure Drawing: Design and Invention. Then there’s books like Anatomy for Artist and Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist that are great resources to look at while you’re learning. There’s so many resources. Everybody has their own methods, but those are some of my personal favorites.
I swear, these videos always makes me want to start drawing when I’m in no mood too. Thank you for these!

Always makes me happy when todays animators reference the old days of stick figure animation, which is what brought up so many new animators.

I love the opening animation, it's so cute 😍
Bruh I’m not the one to say “wow... that is adorable” but that dog in the beginning is just adorable
I will now study all of these approaches in drawing. This has also definitely opened my eyes and made me feel like animation is a possibility.
My goodness you convey weight and momentum so well. Also if you're animating a story board that much the industry should really call it an animatic and even then it sounds like it's almost just doing the rough pass the way you described it. Really silly of them to put that skill on the story board
Also I'm learning that for some scenes rotoscoping is very useful , particularly hands and emotional gestures
As someone who has done martial arts the animation tips sound just about right.

Great video. I usually do a combination of C & D (arms are sticks while legs are sausages). Sometimes I do E or H
Wow...a Perfect tutorial: comprehensive and concise, immediately useful. Thanks for doing this!
These videos really help boost my confidence in animating. I should use these shorthands from now on

Wow thankyou so much for this lesson! I didn't know how useful it was before i fully watched it :0

I really needed this!
Really great works Mister. Thank you for this vidéo, cheers from France.
Best video ever it’s shows many different forms and styles for beginners or the more advanced
Wow, the ju-jitsu animation is just gorgeous!

The into animated puppy is so adorable! 😍
I finally found this helpful video! So much of useful information for the beginners.
This is something no one is talking about but I've struggled with for the longest time! Thank you!

INCREDIBLY HELPFUL for what I'm doing RIGHT NOW
Omg I love to draw and now I'm learning to animate thanks to this video! It feels like I want to animate for my free time

I did the flour sack and sausage method omg it’s so helpful thank you so much
Wow your such a good teacher. Keep it up, you can teach a class of your own.
E.... animator's delight, directors and assistant animator's nightmare 😂
I unexpectedly learned so much from this video. So glad I clicked, subscribed!
this really helped me comprehend. great work, comrade
Great video! Thank you. I really love and appreciate what /how you contribute to the animation community, much love 🙌🙌🙌

This is cool. Will you make a vid on what to do for a second pass? I'd like to see that.
Absolutely!
@@TonikoPantoja Awesome! Can't wait!
I usually do either the contour one or the quick and loose one.
excellent! and you did all of them yourself. Thanks, I learnt something but can't verbally firm up what exactly. More, More!
Thank you for all your work. Very useful!
THANK YOU SO MUCH I FINALLY MADE MY FIRST ANIMATION FROM START TO FINISH
I used, A (Stick figure), D (Floursack and sausages), E (Quick and Loose) and I (Bold Straights V.S. Curves)

Extremely informative and intuitive! Love your animations too :))
Ty for introducing shorthand to beginners like me 😭 I straight sketching before making it hard to feel the movements.
25:41 may I ask ? Where and how can I learn anatomy like this ? It’s very organized I’m struggling on where and how to start 💔
