Honestly I'm barely starting out with guitars, but your channel has brought my son (and I) a LOAD of entertainment to the point that I will probably be buying a pedal just so he can sing "He has the box!" and actually have the box.
When I found your page last year "he has the box" was such a big thing for me that I binged any of your videos, and showed people at work because we all thought it was funny.
I just spent twelve months collecting this set of pedals because I love how they look. Even bought a Danelectro guitar to complete the ensemble. The pedals sound amazing!
I had a Danelctro FAB Overdrive , loved it , made the mistake loaning it to a friend and never got it back . After watching this video it reminded me of just how much I miss that pedal . Now I need therapy.....
Yeah. It’s unedifying seeing people get all salty because someone criticises their output on RUclips. Frankly, if you’re gonna get all weepy because some rando (who probably just had his partner leave him for someone less whiny) criticises you, then really. Why are you producing videos for public review? The only thing worse is when they go on about how little it matters but the fact they speak about it for 10 minutes straight and you can see the tears in their eyes just gives the lie. Sorry, wrong side of the bed this morning. I usually try to only ever moan about people in a jokey way.
@@julianmorrisco I feel like the internet has made people lose ability to judge someone's tone. Josh isn't being weepy here, he's poking fun at a dumb complaint through dry humor
Radiohead is one of my top 3 favorite bands. But man do I struggle with that album. However, Decks Dark is amazing. First experience was Guitar Mag naming Ok Computer guitar album of the year. Sure I had heard Creep but that album changed my life. It led me to explore ambient music in guitar which was so rare back then I decided to do it myself. Still doing it.
@@jhspedalsAddison is living up to his hair...I jest. Glad they put him up on the mix. Nick strikes me as gregarious. Josh the three of you make a great band. Love the guest star episodes.
Their Cool Cat Chorus changed my life. My band was doing the Local H thing, no bassist, and I used the Cool Cat’s stereo outs to split my signal so that I could treat one as the bass and one as guitar and it was absolutely killer. I’m sure the chorus sounded fine too.
I play catch-up a lot with your presentations and love them more and more. Josh you sense of humor laced with sarcasm is something that has always been normal for me. With your videos, i am educated and entertained at the same time. And the band and their creations are incredible. A few weeks ago I needed a reverb but I am not one for endless options. I just don't enjoy thinking that much so I took a chance on your very affordable JHS Octave -Reverb. What an amazing little pedal where I can have complexity without thinking about it. For our softer songs, it allows me to color and lay a pad underneath the chord at an octave higher or lower depending. Too much to say her, but your knowledge base is amazing. BTW, I completely understood your Bad Monkey presentation as it was laced with your sarcastic humor. The internet being what it is, I was not surprised at the responses. Keep up the great work all of you including those behind the scenes. Oh and for the JHS pedal - I have the box.
I only started watching this channel a week ago, but already "words iz hard" and "he has the box" have become part of my daily lexicon 😆. Loving these pedal review/mini-documentary things. They're rad! Also, side note, yep, those paisleys... I worked in a guitar shop, here in the UK, about 20 years ago or so, and I'm pretty sure we sold them. My memory might be playing tricks on me, but I feel like we also sold those Wasabis, but it was a long time ago, so I might be imagining things.
Great video as always Josh and team. Would love to see you give your take on Soundlad pedals from Liverpool. Your content has itched my brain and been helped me find focus in the last few years, so really appreciate all you do and will do on the future
Banana tuner. That takes me back. First tuner I ever had. No idea where my dad found it, but it came with me to Jr. High in my guitar class. Everyone in the class used it because no one wanted to tune to the piano.

That Forward Reverse Delay makes a poor man hungry. Always knew the Dane Electro pedals were underrated and over looked as I've had quite a few sitting next to expensive pedals over the years and got funny looks from not so funny people. What a champion of a man. Thanks for the history and run down.
I bought my wasabi forward/reverse delay brand new from fairfield music in B'ham uk nearly 20yrs ago & still have it, it got regular use for several years, got some amazing sounds from it, recently I was looking thru boxes of leads & stuff & found it, once again I have it hooked up on my pedalboard, still works just fine, yes times have moved on & there are some amazing ( expensive) pedal these days but there is just something about the danelectro that makes it the only pedal I have bought & not sold on - thanks for doing this video & bringing the attention it deserves to light, I don't have a clue if it has any value these days at all but hopefully it will become a collectors item one day.
I bought the forward/reverse delay brand new in 2004 from Alto music in Middletown, New York. They had the whole line of pedals there in-store to demo. At the time I was playing in a band and was trying to be a tpurist while not using any pedals at all. Then we got into the studio and realized that the songs really needed different effects for the different parts. That’s what sent me on the quest to Alto’s. I remember not even knowing what the hell a forward/reverse delay was. I played an ES-335 through a twin reverb amp. I remember that I didn’t even understand what the pedal was doing at all, but I loved what was coming out of the speakers. That was the beginning of it all for me. I had other pedals prior to that like a fuzz and a wah, but none of them really stuck around for me. That delay pedal caused a chain reaction which has resulted in many thousands of dollars spent on many large pedalboards. That pedal literally changed the sound of our band and my style of playing. Eventually, the 9 V outlet for power broke, and that was the end of that pedal due to the components being nano. In 2010 I was told by Dan electro that there were no parts available and that it was beyond repair. All they said to me was sorry. RIP, my sweet, sweet wasabi
Keep brining the Daneletctro content! One of my first guitars was a Dano that I still have. But the pedals were so affordable, I would buy the Dano version before I bought the "real" version. Some of them I even liked better than the real version. To this day, nothing sounds quite like the Grilled Cheese
I actually had FAB overdrive to kick around at rehearsal, it was like $25. It was embrassingly good. I actually used it in studio. Eventually sold it due to cool kid pressure to have hipster pedals.
Used the AO-1 as a drive into my Marshall 1987x for years, over a hundred shows. Great frickin' pedal. Can be tricky not to tread on both footswitches when you don't want to, if you're being particularly energetic with your stage mannerisms
I remember I also bought the mini pedals and board. Love the snapback. The cool cats are good, too. I've v1 and v2 of the 'transparent ' of and the fuzz.
Thank you! I was given a Wasabi Distortion pedal about ten years ago by a friend who'd never found a use for it, I'd never really been able to find any information about them at all, barely even a photo. I've also yet to find a decent use for it but it does make some pretty fat beefy tones.
I love, like really LOVE!!! when you say you have the box Josh. Fun fact, I myself have ALL boxes to every pedal I've ever bought. It drives my wife crazy, she asks me "why do you keep all these boxes?" and I simply tell her - I have the box! To which my kids say - "he has the box", which I've taught them to say of course. And you know what, she has no comeback to that other than - "he has the box"...
the Wasabi OD is a very versatile, good sounding "matrix" pedal,.. especially with the booster and the mix knob, you can really finetune your tone....very underrated pedal!

I love Decks Dark! It's actually my favorite Radiohead song to play on bass. I can understand why Josh played it over a hundred times, I also can't get enough of it.
Back in 2005/2006 I worked briefly at John Hornby Skewes (Also JHS!) in the UK in Leeds as a rep to music shops in the Midlands. We had these and the Paisley pedals and they were brilliant. Interestingly we had one very small delivery of the delay and we never saw them again. I've had the distortion since then. The nostalgia!
whenever I watch an episode like this, with this amount of boxes, I feel like the universe gets at least a bit closer to balance. The world is not right, but at least if feels closer to it.
Got my now battered Rock-a-bye from a local music shop in the UK, almost certainly in 2004. After 15 years of being sat around I threw on the floor at a rehersal and it was like meeting up with an old friend, I don't know why I neglected it for so long - possibly because it wasn't true bypass but I and a lot of people seem to forget you can compensate for that with the amp or put it in a loop switcher which is what I think I'm going to do. The Forward-Reverse Delay is incredible and very scarce to come by.
I love the stinger "He has the box" every episode that has it makes the episode complete you can only get that feeling of wholeness and completeness by having the box.
Finally watching this video on my PC instead of my TV so I can actually comment. I bought three Wasabi pedals brand new at Matanuska Music in Wasilla, Alaska. I had the Distortion, Overdrive and the Chorus/Tremolo. They sounded great and I really liked them but they took up too much space on my pedal board and made it weigh a ton so I sold them. I could kick myself now that I'm collecting pedals. They were in mint condition and "I had the box" with all the candy for each pedal. I think I still have the stickers...
"Hoisted upon the shelves of pedal history" made me laugh aloud...thank you. The "warrior of time and space" comment was also good. I watch these for the pedals and the jams ('Cheap Strat' is still my favourite one) but the Josh comments are always worthwhile.
I have one. I have to dig it back out. I think it was the chorus. It was on some top 10 list, but I bought it because it looks like a classic car with the tail lights on the fins.
cool man, i used to have a music shop demo board from danelectro with 5 effect pedals permanently attached, i have an Arion chorus at one point also. I sold the whole board to a singer i met, friend of friend, long ago. I never saw the Wasabi line of danelectro though, so this is a bit of a treat, thx :)
It's great to see Josh again doing the usual kind of JHS videos. This videos are presented more as documented ones, with journalism approach instead of "opinion" videos. Way more interesting.
I got the Wasabi Overdrive for free from AMS when I bought my Nashville Power Telecaster in the mid-2000s. They were dumping those things left and right when they came out. Danelectro didn't find it's vibe until years later. Still have it, but I never use it. Super cool "1950's Cadillac" case on it though.
@@theseaward4613 - evicted from my rental property because I'm making too much noise, you donut. If you still have problems understanding, ask a responsible adult and/or carer to explain.
Josh, I clicked the like button because you played "He Has The Box". I always like when you say it. I don't know how many times when I look at pedals online I ask myself "Does it have the box"? BTW, the stingers are what makes the show so much fun.
I discovered Radiohead when Paranoid Android was released as a single when I was 13. And Josh, (or Heath, as I remember you), I met you when you played in your teen band Caliber with my friend (who was the drummer). I was known as the Radiohead geek in high school, and my friend was always telling me, “You gotta meet our singer! He loves Radiohead!” So, I did meet you one time at your practice space, and I remember being floored that you had modded your Nashville Tele to have a kill switch like Jonny Greenwood’s tele! I think I begged you to put a kill switch in my Strat, but you politely declined. That was probably for the best. Anyway, I’m so happy for the success of the only other person I knew who liked Radiohead at that time! Keep up the great work!
Holy crap! A Blue Paisley! My bandmate used a Blue Paisley for his OD sounds for years. It was an awesome sound, the way he used it. I've tried searching for one with no success. Been super curious to revisit it.
I have a Dano Cool Cat tremolo with a hard soft setting and love it. I leave it on the hard setting for a sharp type of tremolo. I also have an analogue tremolo from UK company Boo Instruments which is a really warm awesome sounding pedal. I have the best of both worlds.
I have requested this video multiple times because there is little to no information on these pedals. I bought the overdrive as my second pedal because it was cheap and looked cool. Not really what I was looking for, probably because I had a solid state Marshall amp and liked high gain stuff. I still have it 15 or so years later, and actually used it as my main OD when I started playing again and got a tube amp a few years ago. It's a nice pedal. It's actually nice to have just a couple of options on the boost level.
I love the stingers! I just bought a pedal on reverb and when it showed up in the box the stinger played in my head! Unfortunately my wife had no idea what I was talking about.
I bought the chorus/trem from a local shop in Indianapolis in 2007 or 2008. It was the only one he had, so I’m pretty sure he got it in a trade. I never really vibed with it because of the weird shape bothering my ocd on my board and the concentric pots being difficult to adjust, but it sounds great, and the switches were preternaturally quiet compared to everything else I owned. Catchphrase: Clean toes Starched shirts Deacon blues
I always love HE HAS THE BOX. I comment in almost every video when I see the meme. And I'm Brazilian, I never will win nothing, but I have this meme in my heart, and when I look at my pedal's boxes it's make a more alive and happy. Thank God.

The store I grew up with carried these, I loved them then and have fond memories of them
cool man, i used to have a music shop demo board from danelectro with 5 effect pedals permanently attached, i have an Arion chorus at one point also.
"Jump High, Open Roads, Drive a Ford." Almost brought a tear to my eye. I felt America right then and there.
Thanks for that record time. I didn’t know that Radiohead released that album. Ok Computer was the album that got me into them.
I have the Blue Paisley. It sounds AWESOME. Love it bunches. Bought it at GC on sale for $50 back in 03/04.
How do you use a harsh Maestro distortion pedal without getting evicted? Any advice peeps?
Evicted from what?
@@theseaward4613 - evicted from my rental property because I'm making too much noise, you donut. If you still have problems understanding, ask a responsible adult and/or carer to explain.
Josh, I clicked the like button because you played "He Has The Box". I always like when you say it. I don't know how many times when I look at pedals online I ask myself "Does it have the box"? BTW, the stingers are what makes the show so much fun.
Right at 20:50 … the pep talk I didn’t know I needed. PUT ME IN COACH!
The Bends, being in my 20's when it came out. It's a perfect record, no filler, great song after great song.
Im so glad you did more of an old school episodes this week! I love all the content but i miss when friday had an episodes like this every week.
Holy crap! A Blue Paisley! My bandmate used a Blue Paisley for his OD sounds for years. It was an awesome sound, the way he used it. I've tried searching for one with no success. Been super curious to revisit it.
Not only have I seen those I’ve used all of them. They did sound pretty good.
I started liking this album at the waiting room of a clinic while my dad got surgery. I guess this is a more sit and wait and listen kinda album.
Please please please release an album of your jams. They’re so good!!
Never had one of these, but I started playing guitar for realsies in the early 2000s and I def remember them
Wasabi Distortion is my favorite . The football lockerroom scene was funny 😅😅😅 . Well done lads !
It's actually nice to have just a couple of options on the boost level.
hahaha the football coach sketch was top shelf! one of my buddys had a dan echo, such a great delay!
Catchphrase:
Clean toes
Starched shirts
Deacon blues
I always love HE HAS THE BOX. I comment in almost every video when I see the meme.
And I'm Brazilian, I never will win nothing, but I have this meme in my heart, and when I look at my pedal's boxes it's make a more alive and happy. Thank God.
Love the secret button on the distortion. I have that pedal and never open the battery compartment. What a day!
No way - I have a similar thing with radiohead - and when you said "decks dark" I nearly peed with joy. Thanks again Josh.
Love the American football coaches acting, proper cheered my day up!😂
