Thank you for talking, hearing the teacher speak is vital to the learning process. Unfortunately most people don’t want to learn anything. Learning new things can be hard, it takes brain power, and most of all reveals how truly ignorant we are-- a huge problem for the false ego. So people remain in their comfort zone and refuse to learn anything
I rather like your talking, shows what your thinking. And watching you fix mistakes is a HUGE help.... When it all goes easy for the pro, it leaves us less proficient trying to figure out how to fix with no guidance. BIG THANKS for the vids Gary.
Your talking is what makes your videos great. Don't ever stop.
A bit surprised I haven't seen this till now.A very good tutorial, quite easy to comprehend. The formula shown previously combined with this information is as good as it gets, thanks!
Talk all you like, it's nice to know what one is thinking as he works.Great helpful video, Thanks
Brilliant video
I was lucky enough to inherit a lot of scroll formers from a retired, now deceased, smith not far from you. Having a boy who is a bit of an academic whiz, I now know that the formers are astonishingly mathematically accurate in their spiralling. They must have taken some doing...
You are great... Do not fall into the negative feedback. Talk, inspire, teach -i enjoy your videos!
Thank you so much 😊
cheers Gary, I have to make myself one of these - and keep talking! I hate videos where there is little talking or explanation of what is going on, and you explain what you are doing really well!
Well done Gary . I have been a subscriber for years and your commentary is spot on. Keep it up.
I almost fell out of my chair laughing at 16:30. :-D Very nice job showing the right attitude when working on this sort of thing, patience and persistence are paramount.
Great job Gary, thanks for another video. I have always like the way you narrated the project.
Thank you for sharing Gary. No beans required for this project!
Glad to see your hand is doing better. I demo'ed your way of scroll layout to our blacksmith club. They loved it. Then asked how to reproduce THAT scroll. One guy brought up draw it on thick wood and put in good screws along the lines. Get the metal really hot and do it that way. I haven't tried yet. Might work Most of us like the talking. Only cause you sound funny. Ba haha. Thank you much for the teaching
Well made scroll tool and video !
Thanks for this video Gary! Thank you for your commentary. It is the main reason I watch these. Not only are you a phenomenal blacksmith, but your explanations help me to learn. Plus I just like hearing you talk. So screw any naysayers! Bang on, dude!
I got the volume turned up all the way. Very much interested in every word you have to say. Thank you. Red wine causes that little pooch on your belly? Do you think red wine would cure my beer belly? I wish I only a little belly.
Thanks for the video Gary. This was a great learning for me.
Dear Gary, I would much rather listen to your generous commentary than annoying music that other presenters give. Keep up your excellent standard. Cheers.
Thank you, I will
I really enjoy your videos Gary. I have learnt so much. Thank you.
This is awesome! I'm looking for ideas I'm not exactly new to ornamental iron but I'm going to buy my first welder and I'll be going to the scrap yard to see what I can find to get started. BTW those are some massive forearms. I'm a little jealous 😂
Great video Gary - I love doing scroll work - thanks for sharing your uber expertise!! Cheers
Nice job Gary. Piss on those who bitch about the commentary. As you said. There is a volume control. It's your video and do as you like. 😁
This was timely- I need to build a railing for our steps to the second floor. Thanks, Dave
Good to see you again, like the content. Hope your hand and life are treated you well. So like you say, till the next one.
Awesome videos thank you
Thanks for watching!
Would it be easier to use a gas torch or the forge to make the jig?
As always, great info !!
nice job Gary and by the way I think the commentary is important especially to those who haven't tried this yet great job thanks for the video
thank you good work
Great video as always. The people who do not know how to use the volume control can't walk and chew gum at the same time 😀⚒
Gary I searched your videos but did not see it so if you've not, could you please do a video on making the double ended bending fork you are using in this video. I realize I can just fab something, but It looks like yours is one piece forged, which I would prefer to do. I'd very much like to see you make this tool. Respectfully requested.
Cheers man, I really enjoyed the video - even the talking. I like to hear about whats happen and what you're thinking while you work. For me as a new guy, the talking help me think more. I don't like watching smith vids that are only music. I want the talkin. Nice work, mate!
How well would a "scroll jig" work? Like would it work to make the smaller 1st few swirls or does it not make it any easier/faster. I know scroll work is kinda one of those "better when hand made" thing. Just wondering.
Wow, this is a little embarrassing...... So ya, i may have paused the video and asked a question before it was finished.... So nvm, sorry. Liked the video very much. Awesome work.
Hi gary, how is your stake anvil mounted? I have 2 of them, and want to mount one, but haven't found the right way.
Jacob Drescher I just put it in one of the holes in my swage block. It's not a good fit but good enough for the amount I use it.
Think you 👍🤌❤
Nice gary
Nice video Gary. Have you ever taken a nice scroll from say a scrap gate and used it as a former by slightly offsetting it? Ive often wondered if that would be a useful way of creating a nice accurate former? Thanks for the video again
Chestnut Forge no, never tried it, might give it a go if ever I find one!
Nice video,Gary. Just curious,is that a repair in the face of your anvil?
matt p yes, I cut through it with my plasma cutter!
I'm always talking too myself. We have a grand old time.
I enjoy your dialogue 😀
i agree! talk on, Gary. the days of silent movies are long over.. and in any event, i am 'ard of 'earin, so i turn it up to eleven. but hey! have you ever thought about having someone do interpretive dance to compliment the visuals? it could work. it'd sort out that pesky information you generously impart with trademark, matter-of-fact dryness and put it elsewhere.. where it cannot be heard. i like your video style mate, keep em coming
How heavy is your anvil?
3cwt
Disclaimer: im a beginner blacksmith.
But,
at 7:17
If you would put the scroll at an angle to the anvil and hammer at a angle i think it would be easier to form the scroll.
Teun I have no idea what you mean.
Marvellous!!!
Clever!
it is harder todo this than it looks.
Hi. Im subbed but do not remember what video of yours i watched 1st. So mostly this is the only video to go by. The talking is the best part. The level of critic you are doing to your work is awesome. If you made all your videos like this then you sir, will gain subs. One last thing about you talking.... Your voice doesnt match your arms. Not sure what i mean, but take it as is. o7
Cheers !
Thanks. Why is there copper in the wrists ?
Have you got a logo on your arm?
Yes, the same as my hammers.
Great stuff Gary! Do you have a vid showing how to figure out how to draw the scroll to begin with?
TIA
David Wentzell yes, it's at the end of the video.
Gary Huston got it. Thanks!
People who don't want to hear your thought process aren't here to learn about blacksmithing. They must be impatient millenials.
I will give your anvil a name, Beyoncé
Rather listen to your explanation than some annoying background music, keep jabbering on!
Noted!
