Thank you so much for watching the video! I am in a bit of a hammer phase at the moment, but it's just so much fun. So bear with me ;) I am giving this hammer away to one of my followers. The giveaway will end September 23rd. I will pick a winner and announce them here in this comment. I will never ask you to join telegram or any other platform. Check back at this comment on September 23rd to see who won the hammer. The winner is: @Brekkefant If he/she does not reach out to me in 7 days, I will pick another winner :) Thank you again for watching and I'll see you in the next video :)
Since I'm a green woodworker I didn't do much blacksmithing yet. Although I hope to start blacksmithing and be able to forge my own tools together with a friend of mine who has a coal forge. Thx alot for the great videos and inspiration Nils! I hope to visit Sweden next summer to be able to visit other craftspeople and maybe have time to follow some courses. Keep up the great work!
I'm also starting out and am in need of a nice hammer like this one! Thanks for all the great videos you have made and I really like the voice over commentary on this one. I'm living not too far away from you and I'd love to come by and visit your shop some day. I hope that I eventually have enough skill to take a one-on-one course with you and be able to get the most out of it.
I am a retired tool and die guy who lost everything when my brother took me to court. Now I am rebuilding from scratch. That includes building a new shop and forge while living out my truck on some rural land. I got into forging timber frame tools as I have lots of logs but little cash. I would be blessed to get one of these hammers.
It is refreshing to see someone blacksmithing by hand. To many videos out there, on how to, use power hammers, and not everyone has a power hammer. Thank you for posting that video. The hammer came out great.
Thank you for this video. I am a US Military Veteran and blacksmithing has been my coping mechanism for dealing with my struggles with PTSD and general wellness. I really appreciate the content you produce. Everything I’ve learned from you and others I use to help other veterans like me to get into blacksmithing.
That hammer is beautiful, and at one kilo, it’s a perfect hammer weight for beginners like me. You continue to inspire us by the techniques you use to craft this work of art.
Don't sweat the beginer dude. I been at this for decades and my "daily driver" hammer is a 900g(ish) crosspeen too. sure i got lighter one and heavier ones dependong on the work... but this type and size hammer been made on this vid is 100% the work horse of my career, cant go wrong with it from beginner to pro my dude.
Started a forge last year with a brake drum and blow drier and charcoal, made two knives and a few pokers, I can’t wait to step it up to an actual gas forge and maybe an actual hammer, I used a hand sledge 3lb I appreciate your video it really makes me want to forge some tools
Thank you for your informative videos! Very inspirational for a hobby blacksmith such as myself who doesn’t have a hydraulic press or power hammer. I will adapt many of your techniques. Still learning at 56!
HI Folks, I have watched Black Bear forge over the years and more or less revived my interest in Blacksmithing. I worked With Bob Wilson at the Grange Smithy Nr Dundee. I have used alll the skills Bob showed me as a teenager And at 75 years I feel I have reached a proficient level in Blacksmithing, It is a Skill where you are always learning. I have moved on to Making horseshoes now for the local horse owners. So thanks for the video on the Cross peen Hammer, Time to get some tool steel and have a go. Thanks for the tutorial.. Tom in Ayr Scotland.
Thank you for making such well edited and instructional videos. I especially appreciate videos that show that you can make things with basic tooling instead of going to the power hammer and making me feel poor. I'd love to have that hammer, almost as much as I want to make one myself! Thank you for sharing your skill and helping others start their journeys at the anvil.
A excellent video with fantastic results. I grew up on a farm in the Canadian prairies at that time every small town had a blacksmith so watching your videos I could smell it all. Thanks
I really enjoy your voice over. It really helps me understand exactly what you are doing.... Much better than just watching some guy randomly hitting hot steel . Nice to know I am not the only one who gets tired swinging
That would be a brilliant hammer to own and use for its intended purpose. I’m beginning forging, I’ve welded up a coke forge last week and used a hair dryer for bellows! Works quite well actually. I got a hand me down anvil from my neighbour and it’s a beast, just need to make proper tongs and a proper hammer, that would be a brilliant hammer for a beginner! Thanks for a great video to show how the ordinary person can make brilliant things without owning a power hammer, that gives me a lot of confidence to keep swinging my old hammer for now. Thanks Nils
Enjoy watching you work your talents in all of these projects that you produce here on RUclips. I’m slowly getting my act and tools together to start forging . With your tutorials along with several others I know I will have failures but with that there is triumph in creating something I can be proud of . Thanks again and continue the great work .
I recently moved and I'm scraping together my new smithing setup. Seeing someone make something as intimidating as a hammer by hand is very encouraging for someone like me!
Gorgeous hammer! Beginner smith from Norway here - in need of a cross pein hammer! Thank you for your videos - I will always watch them.

I have been smithing for a few years now, but I recently had shoulder surgery, and a lighter hammer would be great for getting back into the swing of things! Great video sir!
I am more a miller and driller myself. Seeing this video makes me wanting to be a blacksmith. Making an oven and buying an envil. Just getting started with this. Very exciting!
I love it! I recently moved, but I had been living in Cleveland where a local guy had set up a blacksmith shop where he had multiple forges and had started a sort of membership model, where you could pay to use the forge and get materials and whatnot. It was great for people who wanted to get into forging but didn't have the space. He also provided lessons and supervision. I wish I could find something like that in my new place.
I've been taking a lot of lessons from your videos, I love that you've been recently using only hand tools for a lot of your work it really helps me to understand how I'd create things with what I have. I've been checking the date of each of your videos to see if I'm ever in the timeframe for a giveaway like this, I've just dug out my forge hole and plan to start soon so I appreciate putting the chance to win it out there.
Very helpful video and great explanations of every step you take! Im starting my second year in school studying blacksmithing in September and your guidance shall guide me as well as my masters! Cheers Nils!
Thank you for posting this video, every other video I have seen on hand-forging hammers is mostly the Brian Brazil method or has a really rough finish to it. It was nice to see detailed finishing techniques with your method.
Started forging recently using what ever tools I could find, and proper peening hammer would be a fantastic addition. I loved watching the forging of this hammer and the voice over gave a lot of insight into the process of its creation. Exceptional work. Thank you for what you do.
I must have watched a hundred blacksmithing videos on here over the years. I only discovered you a couple of days ago but I've found your videos extremely easy to follow and very educational, and I must say you're giving me that itch to try diving into it!
Loved this guide and the finished hammer! I made a hammer from reforging an old lump hammer. I really want to try forging one from scratch like this. Love your work! Tack!
I like your videos as you show how to hand forge rather than how to use the power hammer to forge. I’m just starting out still collecting tools for my endeavor. Thanks again for the video.
Always amazed at what you can do with metal, and forging by hand is so mesmerizing! Your videos are inspiring me to take on bigger, and more refined projects, and I often come back to your advices. Thank you again for this. I was fantasizing about winning the Hammertime one, so I guess it will be the same for this one... I'm such a child. Good luck everyone!
I really appreciate the clear simple instructions! Going through what you’re doing and why without over complicating things is really inviting to give smithing a try!
I enjoy all smithing videos but there is something about using hand tools that fascinates. I think to what smiths did before power tools and the amazing crafts they made. Thank you for sharing! Whomever get this hammer is a lucky smith!
I know I said it in the comments for the last video to try and win that hammer, but a beautiful hammer like this would be amazing at the start of my blacksmithing journey. You do such amazing work. One day I hope I can use this video to try and make my own hammer. Thank you.
Thank you so much for clearly explaining the step by step ways and doing all the work by hand. This really helps people like me who are trying to learn to make hammers and axes without the giant power-hammers etc. I'm still in the process of making my own tongs and drifts so that I can make my own hammers and axes in the future. It would be great to have this beautifully crafted, hand-forged hammer to get me started in that process. Thanks again from the Netherlands.
I am a blacksmith myself and a hammer junky. I would like to have this one, as you were (and others I follow) an inspiration to start my journey as a blacksmith. Cheers!
Thank you so much for sharing your craft. I am an old retired guy learning the craft. I have built a shop in the back yard I have not yet tried to make a hammer. Your video help to inspire me. If you want to share I probably will use your hammer everyday. Thanks for your videos.
Love the hammer! I only have 2 hammers at the moment, but I’m looking to make my own and these videos have been very insightful. I’m trying my best to make any tools I need rather than buy pre made tools. So I still need to make a few more tools before I can start my hammer.
Id love to owe this hammer, i have forged my own hammers by hand but nothing as sophisticated as yours so i would learn a lot by using and studying it.
Grate video Nils, you don't know how useful and inspiring your work is for new smiths like me! I'm grateful to everyone who contributes to this true craft. Thank you so much! I would be honored to be able to forge with une of your hammers. Greetings from Spain!
Id love this hammer It could be offered as prize in my local north Wales agricultural show There are a lot of young farmers who would put this to great use ! Another great video, thanks for sharing
Your talent never fails to amaze me. Up here on the west coast of Canada roofers use a special hammer for cedar shake instillation. It is a combo hammer hatchet. The hatchet side is sharp on two sides and multiple holes on the one side for measuring. Be a challenge for you but bet you would have fun doing it. Also it will add to your tool chest.
I came to your Channel from Torbjörn åhman and ireally like your stuff and what you doing, Last year i started to forge a little bit at home since i work as a Metalworker and my Boss was once a Blacksmith he showed me many things about Forging. The Hammer you made here woulde be my first Handforged and i woulde use him everytime when i forge something because i just love to work with my handy and creat little gifts for others too Thanks for your time to read this and keep on doing what you do, its just cool :)
Thank you for sharing the making of this hammer. Your explanation of the process was easy for me to follow as a beginner. I have been using hardware store hammers up to this point, and they work ok, but this one is very nice. It would be a very welcome addition as my first forging hammer made by a fellow smith. I haven't had the courage (or skills) to attempt making one myself, but it is in my sights as I make more tooling. I really like that style of punch you used. I will try to make one soon.
Hey Nils! Your videos have been very helpfull when starting forging and have been a huge inspiration, im a complete beginner when it comes to forging but ive been having a really good time trying it out. A hammer like this would help out a TONN, and i really want to make stuff like you do not just to sell it, but to keep the art of blacksmithing alive. Im a young guy with a lot of different interest. Thanks!
Thanks for demonstrating how to make this hammer with hand tools. I have been using the same hammer I bought over 40 years ago as a farrier. Hoping to try forging one like yours.
another great project, and as the kids are getting older i'm thinking i might finally have time to set up a forge and starting making stuff again (since i moved from the fun making stuff side of engineering to the paperwork side)
Just finished my first introduction to blacksmithing course. Really looking forward to building up some tools and getting further into the craft. It would be amazing to own and use a piece of your work. Great job as always.
Beautifully crafted Nils as ever and I would love to be considered for the hammer as I am just starting on my forging journey and it would be a brilliant addition to my yet perfect tool set...looking forward to you're next project and as ever keep being you brother..!
Very nice. Easy to follow along for those wanting to make their own. A conundrum; need to have a hammer in order to make a hammer. Good luck to everyone entering.

You are one of the reasons I built my own forge, just finished yesterday. Making my own tongs atm but need a better hammer then the one I’m using now 😳 keep up the great work! You’re an inspiration!
Personally find the spring fullers work great to moving the larger stock thickness when making hammers, the only tricky part is getting the set down lined up, but patience is part of the work.. great video 🍻🍻
I'm currently building my first forge, and would love a new hammer as well. This one is absolutely beautiful, and I would very much like it in my arsenal of tools. I can guarantee it will get a lot of use.
Nice hammer and great video! I have taken my starting steps with a piece of rail as an anvil and a forge I made myself from a brakedrum. And it works! Since I don't live that far away from you one of your courses might be the next step.
Beautiful work. I love watching your videos. I have not tried making my own hammer yet, but maybe one day. Right now I'm just using a hardware store hammer, but it gets the job done
Love your work Nils, it would be so sick to have one of your hammers to make my own pieces of work, just finished making a forge and still acquiring the necessary tools “Hammer time”
Thank you for all your efforts. Your videos are well done. I have yet to try a hammer or an axe. I think it is anxiety over messing up the eye. Thank you for doing these and sharing your skills, talents and abilities with us. USA with Scandinavian roots. 🧙🏻♂️💕

Man, you should only know how many eye's I have messed up. Dont worry, just do it :)
That hammer is awesome! I love quality tools. I’m a boat mechanic and quality tools make all the difference! Keep me in mind for the give away, I’ll put it to use daily!
This is another great piece. I love watching talented people making things, and i hope that i will get this good one day too. Winning it would be awesome. Good luck to everyone.

I hope this comment is not sarcastic :)
It not. Well done my friend.
Exactly! So many channela talk too much about too much unimportant things

Your videos are inspiring me to take on bigger, and more refined projects, and I often come back to your advices.
Thank you again for this.
I was fantasizing about winning the Hammertime one, so I guess it will be the same for this one... I'm such a child.

Just built my first forge and would love to have this hammer to start off with. Great work!
Great video. Just started, doing tapers and bends would love a real forging hammer.
I am a blacksmith myself and a hammer junky. I would like to have this one, as you were (and others I follow) an inspiration to start my journey as a blacksmith. Cheers!
Good work on this hammer. We shared this video on our homemade tool forum last week 😎

Nils, great video. Your narrative provides detailed training for a very effective class. Thanks
i can always appreciate a new hammer. After a long while im giving hammer making a go again and your videos are very helpful
Loved all the tips. Voice over is just right.
Just in the process of setting up my own forge after taking an intro to blacksmithing course and would be honoured to put this hammer to good use! :)

Id love this hammer
It could be offered as prize in my local north Wales agricultural show
There are a lot of young farmers who would put this to great use !

Thank you, Nils, for a fine tutorial. I'd love to be the one who is fortunate enough to own and use your hammer in my back yard forge.
Fantastic video Nils! I really enjoy your "basic" videos. The hammer came out beautiful!
Very educational video. I’m glad we could hear your voice in this one, we could use some more commentary!
Thank you!
That's a really nice hammer, perfect for a beginner. Arnold sure is proud of what you accomplished
Beautifully crafted Nils as ever and I would love to be considered for the hammer as I am just starting on my forging journey and it would be a brilliant addition to my yet perfect tool set...looking forward to you're next project and as ever keep being you brother..!

Nice video it get's clear how to forge one for me. This one would be nice for finishing blades.
My day always improves when I see you've put out a new video. You're a big inspiration for my self-taught attempts at forging. Thank you! 👍🏻
You are one of the reasons I built my own forge, just finished yesterday. Making my own tongs atm but need a better hammer then the one I’m using now 😳 keep up the great work! You’re an inspiration!
I had a really nice time watching you make this hammer. You made my morning better.
Personally find the spring fullers work great to moving the larger stock thickness when making hammers, the only tricky part is getting the set down lined up, but patience is part of the work.. great video 🍻🍻
Yes! focus and patience. speed comes later :)
Another great video as always! Very informative and helpful. I'm new to forging so I'm thankful for all the tips!
Nicely done sir!!! Looks fantastic!!!! The sharp, clean pene on that hammer would be perfect for drawing out clips on my handmade horseshoes!!!!
I just started blacksmithing. your videos are extremely helpful
It's always so impressive to see a block of metal turn into a beautiful tool I really want to try and make one myself
Beautiful work Nils! I have recently finished forging a drift hopefully it works out! I would love to have one of your pieces! Thanks for the content
That is a great video. I will watch it again and probably several more times as I try to make my first hammer. Thank you for making this.
Love your work. You are inspiring me to get back to smithing myself.
Love your work Nils, it would be so sick to have one of your hammers to make my own pieces of work, just finished making a forge and still acquiring the necessary tools
“Hammer time”
Thanks for your videos, I really enjoy watching you work.
Yes, a good hammer and nice work by hand . Good to note the size stock you chose in starting out
Beautiful workmanship ❤
You are such an inspiration Nils! I am getting into Scandinavian axe making thanks to you and would love to use a hammer forged by you to make them!
Love handmade tool making. Nice work!!
