The Ireland border after Brexit

- We're expecting to find out the Government's position on the Ireland border this week.
The Sunday Telegraph reports that one of those proposals will involve offering free movement in and out of the UK to Irish citizens - a so-called "Schengen area" between the two countries.
But how would the changes affect those living on the border? Sky's Ireland correspondent David Blevins has been finding out.

Its ironic the Brits want to take back their country yet deny the Irish the same right. Time to go.
MickRick E British means selfish
maybe get your facts right Northern Ireland is part of the UK because the people of Northern Ireland want to be part of the UK, maybe try reading the good friday agreement before making untrue statements online btw i am from Northern Ireland i live here
@@PS-ru2ov but is ok to,ignore the fact that the people of Northern Ireland don’t want Brexit. Also the island as a whole voted in 1918 with a majority wanting to leave the UK but that was ignored and a Protestant protectorate was created. Look what happened after that and the troubleshot caused.
No border will stop me traveling around MY country
But north Ireland is a part of the UK
Won’t be part of the UK forever
Well said sir wether ur unionist or nationalist
Ireland is an island. 26+6=1
the 6 are British soil ...
Beautiful country and buildings; amazing people...wish I could visit Ireland.
Next they'll be telling us guns, drugs, and money laundering never happens too.
The British should be very careful they have ounce again not kept their word and have broken the Good Friday Agreement on many levels
They are very selfish and will reap what they sow

If the ROI left the EU I don’t see any problem with this.
Ryan DavidB Ryan DavidB If Ireland left the E.U. it would destroy our economy, not to mention the end of funding for infrastructure projects, farming ect. The E.U. may have it's faults but it's benefits outweigh the bad.
That is as unworkable, as the UK invading Ireland.
yeah the south join back up with us obvious get out of the evil eu
At first, i thought it was jeremy clarkson
British peoples ignorance of the island of Ireland and it's history is actually incredible
Would it not be better to give the whole island back to the irish ?
As the song By
Paul McCartney & Wings - Give Ireland Back To The Irish
If the UK leaves the single market, its the EU law that requires the checks., Not the UK.
So I say to Irish people stop bothering the UK and stop seeing them as the problem going forward, We are where we are, its not going to go back, Make the EU sort this out, that is where your energy should be directed. that is the only Group that May not make compromises, Ireland will have to obey the EU, the UK does not and will not!
Britain took the decision of leaving, not the European Union wanted Britain to leave. So is 100 % a problem made by Britain
Actually if the uk leave under wto rules they will be force to put a border up
we wont build no border the irish army garda will
I might add only 51 percent voted to leave with London,Manchester,Liverpool,Scotland, Welsh speaking heartlands and Northern Ireland being remain strongholds even in leave areas the remain vote was in the 40’s Brexit should have never happened.
John Redwood's solution is easily the best, simplest and most effective. I can't see why people thought it was complicated. It deals with the problem of the border but effectively ensures trade continues and free movement of non-irish or British citizens ends.
Build a wall and let the Irish Republic pay! ⬅️ *This is a joke btw*.
Joking aside, I do believe that NI should be part of the Republic. However wasn’t there a referendum on this and people voted to remain with the UK.
Yes. A long time ago. If southern eire left the EU we wouldn't have this problem. The EU is occupying southern eire and should leave. 90% of southern eire people want to leave the EU.
The referendum was a joke and boycotted by the nationalist community.
Hopefully the damage of partition can be fixed one day. There was nothing democratic about partition. 4 of the six counties in the north had nationalist majorities. The little sectarian statelet should never have exited.
Heres to being one again
More a fiefdom

As northern Ireland is staying with the Europeans and not wanting a United Ireland what else is their? We will always help them even when the Europeans ruin their dreams.
We are going to have to put in a boarder.it would mean putting in new infrastructure leading to corrailing bays for heavy good with car barrier system for regular traveller across the boarder .A photo reconsideration booth for travellers, body and car scanners. All monitoring to be done by intercom and cameras from a special customs building.
Exactly.
But we are not talking security posts we are talking customs, which i suggest is the problem having to declare ones business , will not go down well with Irish community.
Southern Ireland should be allowed to have another referendum as they were forced to take a second referendum when they voted not to join in the first case
They were made to join the EU
It's called the Republic of Ireland
Its called the Republic of Ireland and little Irelanders are a dying breed.

Scotland had a referendum why can't Ireland English company taking over Dublin bus, here to make money Irish citizens should be making, this a joke any1 that that thinks so here's my petition on no boarders in Ireland. Leave comment like and your name
The ease with which £425billion worth of goods passes in and out of Switzerland every year makes a mockery of the EU’s position that Northern Ireland might have to remain in the EU customs union while the rest of the UK leaves it.
Switzerland remains outside the customs union yet each day 2.1 million people, 1.1 million cars and 24,000 lorries cross the border, making it one of the busiest in Europe.
Running the Swiss digital frontier costs £639 million a year, a figure in stark contrast with the £20billion HM Revenue and Customs claimed a frictionless border might cost businesses in administration costs.
Switzerland’s economic and trade relations with the EU are governed by a series of bilateral agreements whereby the Swiss take control of certain aspects of EU legislation in exchange for accessing part of the single market.
Hardline Europhiles want the EU to apply standard customs checks to any goods coming into its customs union through the Irish Republic.
But at the Swiss border the process is seamless with a digital customs system which Brexiteers say could be replicated with ease in Northern Ireland.
For transit goods passing through Switzerland to the rest of Europe, vehicle and driver particulars are electronically verified at a border checkpoint.
Each driver has a smart card recording the load of the vehicle, weight and number of miles driven. The card is scanned at the checkpoint without the driver leaving his cab and takes a maximum of two and a half minutes.

Well said
there are differences between the northen irish border and the swis one...look it up
Let's just casually ignore that Switzerland is in Schengen but fine

They know that ,they will have to pay more to the EU funding, when Britain leaves, this applys to the remaining country's.
The cost for EU members prior to the UK exit was 1% of GDP. That is now 1.15% of GDP. Hardly something to worry about. If Ireland pays more €, it's because our % GDP is increasing, which is a good sign.
As an Irish person, I have no problem paying more. Within the EU, Ireland has transformed itself from a poor agri economy (70% in 1970s : 4% in 2020s) to a wealthy Hi Tech nation (30% in 2020s). We received help when we needed it so it's only right we help other new members attain strong successful economies. The richer they become, the more money they have to purchase Irish & other EU goods & increase the money flow for all.

@@gurudeclan What did they say
Everyone knows Republic of Ireland aka Ireland. I for one couldn't care less what happens to Northern Ireland after Brexit. A lot of people up there identify themselves as British. Good Riddance
"they are required under EU law" 1:45 Why tf are we still complying to EU law if the main reason to leave the EU was to make our own laws and govern our own country. Who is actually going to implement this border if both the UK and Ireland are not in favour of the bored?! It just doesn't make sense. It is as if the UK are provoking or pushing the issue to further delay a decision made by the people. Hold a further referendum and this will further increase the divide and cause further violence within the UK (Pro brexit to win by a bigger vote also) .
That statement didn't apply to the UK. It applied to the Republic of Ireland. Who are in the EU. EU law states that they have to have a border between them and a non EU country.
Owen Paterson hasn't a clue, Brexit will be a disaster for northern Ireland but i hope I'm wrong.
We need united ireland and eventual withdrawal of UK from island of Ireland
ah the people in Northern Ireland dont want a United Ireland they want to be part of the UK

build a wall ,
The people who say build a wall are usually people who don't live on that border.
Also no need for a border
please do refrendum that northern Ireland will out of uk please .....
First lol
Well I would say that after Brexit that there's a difference and a reason that all happened and a wall is to protect those that want it should have it
Susan Iacuessa No one wants any wall either side and all it does is upset the community's around there and could bring back the hate of IRA and it's activities
If there is a wall, the sale of ladders in Northern Ireland and the Republic will soar.
Susan Iacuessa
There will have to be a border as free movement of people will end and no customs union.
People who voted Leave on another Island effectively deciding the vote couldn't care less what happens in Northern Ireland if they have got the brexit they crave and they aren't affected by bombing and bloodshed. It really is disgusting.
But no one wants a wall, that would be the worst idea in the world
Why can't southern eire just leave the EU? We bailed them out, they send 90% of their exports to us. They need us.
Southern eire?😂😂
Southern Éire should be aware the name is Republic of Ireland and we were bailed out by the Germans. As for our exports we send more to Europe.
Yes because brexit is going SOOO WELL…
