I was half expecting him to have found one of the lost test mules for the McLaren F1, I'm disappointed.
Besides those test mules there's really no ties between Ultima and McLaren, if i recall correctly they had one Ultima mule for engine testing (silver) and another one for gearbox testing (blue), and they were both destroyed after their job was over.
so in short, what youre saying is this guy is spouting bullshit once again
@@XenonArcher Of course he is, just look at him. I knew from the title that this is for sure clickbait bull-baloney.
Exactly - 2 F1 test mules, Blue and Silver, both destroyed. IDK where he gets the idea they had a garage of V6 and V8 mules - that would be completely pointless and a waste of money.
Don't sell it, Those Ultimas are incredible performance machines. You won't gain anything by getting a supercar, You basically have one.
Spent 2k on my wedding, had a piss up in a barn in the back of a pub, everybody had a great day that we’ll remember for the rest of our lives. All that to say I didn’t have to sell a car.
💯
for real for 2k you can have some drinks a cake laugh with close buddy and family and get on with ur day.
20k not eough for marraige holy damn some are crazy taht is 20k thrown away for a party of 1 night...
Quick maths, 21,500 plus a couple grand is not 2,000. The wedding was probably halfway to 6 figures and was hoping to get the rest from the sale of the car.
He’s talking rubbish.
Look into the details, we know for a fact that he didn’t.
He didn't what?
So he found an Ultima. The only connection to McLaren is that the same model was used as a mule for the F1's engine. Both of which were destroyed. All of this is explained on the Ultima website.
Albert and Edward were crucial to the development of the F1 and these two McLaren prototypes were later destroyed as the specialist magazines were still offering a fortune for sneak preview pictures.
This guy sure has a wonderfully creative imagination.
Mclaren was known for their Chevy V8s...
Why are you calling it an F1 test mule if this car is nor Albert neither Edward?
I suspected this guy is full of it when I saw the title...
"I found a..." when he just bought a used normal Ultima, which have been for sale to the public for ages and there's nothing to be "found" about them.
@@pistonburner6448 This. The guy is full of it. It's a barn-find Ultima. Nothing wrong with that if you want to restore an Ultima, but this car has nothing to do with McLaren.
He talks utter trash all the time as he likes to think he has something more special than he does, either for his ego or yo try and find a mug to sell it on to. He had a countach replica, in below average condition that needed lots of attention yet chirped on about it been a £50-60k car. Utter plonker!!! Fact he bought some 'smart cars for his dealership' should tell you all you need to know
He clearly said more than once - "in my opinion". Not that I'm saying he's not full of horsh!t.
Lol, one of 2, edward and albert are destroyed. And those were a MK3. He has an MK4 chassis.I own the first Mk3 Sports, build and owned by Ted Marlow.
By this logic, the McLaren F1 uses Pirelli tires, and so does my Jag. So my Jag is the successor to the McLaren F1
It is. And you should demand a premium over all the other jags at sale time because of this.
Well ford f150s come with pirellis also so it also successes the F1
@@cmwhitt18 LOL!!!!
😂 you wish
Gordon Murray was most likely the one who decided to use a random kit car as a test mule (in this case the ultima). 100% not a predecessor or influential on the design of the McLaren F1. It is a great car in itself so no need to hype it up with untruthful facts.
It really must be great development test mule since it was also used to develop the all new GMA T50, Gordon Murray’s latest supercar project.
He may be stretching awfully hard to claim this is a Maclaren predecessor, but at least it is an unusual and interesting car, plus his energy is a bit contagious.
Could be worse it could be a one of one Corvette 😂
every corvette is a one of one. Just ask their owners!
This guy sure finds a lot of cars of his dreams.
Pull spark plugs, add a little bit of oil to each cylinder. Crank over, plugs back in. 12 volts to the ignition coil, disconnect main fuel line, dump some fuel in the Carburetor and hit the key. Could it be easier?
Dustin Walls did NOT tell him that. I was the one that sent him the message the day he posted the video about it. I bought the Mischief DVD when I was stationed at Aviano AB, Italy and I remembered the car in the video. Sam even gave me a shout-out on his page for giving him the info.
Thanks legend !
@Hardupgarage I'm sorry, I guess that came across wrong, I didn't mean to sound rude. Still a fan of the ride and channel.
Who the heck would sell that car just to get married? Terrible idea.
Well, guy didnt look after it. So unless was engaged for 13 years...
Because he was never going to be able to do anything with it. The guy didn't have the mechanical ability nor the budget to Make the car road worthy. It was just going to sit in the garage and continue to rot. This guy's story is mostly BS. He found an Ultima kit car. I doubt it was worth even what he paid, but I'm far from an expert on these so take that with a grain or 20 of salt.
Love is like that. :]
@@wolfsokayanot love, idiocy
Hope it's the right woman
I remember there was 1 holy grail.... now its every single day someone finds one... get new terms!!!
On TikTok it was relieved that Moses stole that term from someone else....😂 "On God..." 🤦🏻♂️
Get over yourself
The car was clearly doing 185 kilometers per hour😂 come on mate, aren't you guys in Europe
In Britain they still use miles
From what I have found they already had a design in mind, but purchased these cars for their similarity to their design. He makes it out to seem they took this body design and molded the f1 from it
That car is definitely a supercar
Wow ultimatas are one of my favorite cars. Can’t wait to hear about this story
Very cool, hopefully they get it back to the owner for a day to take out his kid!
Did Lee Noble design the McLaren F1 then? From the commentary by Mr Hard it sounds like it. And I always thought it was some unknown chap called Gordon Murrey who came up with the design of the McLaren F1..!
@bartsimpsonhead2790 Maybe Noble was doing Murray a favour, helping a young guy get a start in automotive design. Or, it could all be BS, and the biggest connection this car has to McLaren is that some of its parts were once in the same building as some of the parts used in Albert and Edward, two F1 test mules that are known to have been destroyed...
Yes from what I can tell this car has no direct link even to the 2 test mule cars even. That being said it's still a extremely rare and cool car that I'm sure gave inspiration to super car builders across the world it was ahead of its time and very well built but just never made it and for w.e reason. I'm definitely going to research the history and figure out why this car only made such a small number, maybe they ran out of money or took a payout not to build anymore.
@@neilorange4112 "Why this car was only made in such a small number".
It was a kit car, a particularly well made but also relatively expensive one, which meant there was only a niche market. At the time, it cost more than a brand new Sierra cosworth and you didn't have to build that yourself. So production was low volume. And still is, Ultima are still trading, selling updated and improved versions of the car, including turnkey versions for over $100k. There just happened to have (apparently) only been 8 of this exact version, before production swapped over to the next (and presumably further improved) version.
@jonathanj8303 ya I should have done the research before I posted but you exactly right and they have been in business for a very long time building these really high end kit cars. I'm honestly shocked that Ed let him have a platform to mislead people or at min he tried to connect dots that didn't exist. Seemed more like a used car sales pitch and less of a cool story
@@neilorange4112 "more like a used car sales pitch" I think you hit the nail on the head there. It doesn't just seem like trying to invent a special history for non-unique car, but it also that the guy doing the talking got the car for a good price and just happens to own a dealership...
Vin Wiki is really destroying their brand with people like this.
This channel has become a jerk off contest between liars and fraudsters - what a shame.
It's not about brand anymore, it's about feeding the Beast ( RUclips ) content for nice cars and an affluent lifestyle.. ( whether that content is shit or not doesn't matter.. Because if it is shit people will watch to bitch about it in the comment section and if it's not they'll praise it in that same section.. So both have the same effect ) More content = More money = Nice cars = maintaining that lifestyle... The more people get, the more they want.. It's Human Nature
The Ultima was the McLaren engine test car, the accurate NSX was actually the goal as far as dynamics and the designer and engineer was Gordon Murray. With that said this is a very cool car. I love the ultima they has a crazy time around the top gear track
If a woman lets you sell the sentimentally irreplaceable childhod emotional connection to your dead dad to pay for a glamorous pointless one day wedding ceremony... that's maybe not the kind of bird you want to be committing your life to. 😂😂😂
BINGO!!
I saw one of these in the isle of white going for like 60,000k had wondered if this was the one. Awsome car.
This takes me back to watching Tiff drive the GTR for the first time and having an absolute orgasm 😂
Needs a BIG Mclaren influenced BMW motor in there if you ask me .cost nothing to get hold of a modern 7 series and do a proper restomod
Can you source a cosworth V12 to put in it, just like the GMA .50.
what a load of bollocks. its a cool car for sure, but let's be clear, the McLaren F1 was in no way based on this car! They did use a couple of ulitimas as mule cars during the development of the F1 but to say all the handling and framework was based on the Ultima, that Mr Noble was the brainpower behind the F1... and all the other crap you just made up... that's just horseshit.
Those were some pretty cool cars back then.
nice find.
Keep it.
Love your ideas of what you're doing.
I'd like to see it on the track, video it and put it on here. You will have followers that enjoy it.
There's one with the big block Chevy twin turbo Mercury sb9 engine. It looked scary.
Morals, Character, Reputation > Money
I'm confused as to how this is the predecessor to the McLaren F1 if it came out afterwards?
How is an Ultima not a super car when it’s faster and handles better that most super cars? Because it needs a Ferrari badge? Give me a break
Sam is a great storyteller. I can’t understand half of what he says but I enjoy it every time
@@brianhoward482 Trouble is, that's all it is, tall tales. This car has nothing to do with the McLaren test mules, and those cars are known to have been destroyed. According to other comments here, it's not even the right Mk Ultima.
Now that's a good story 🙏
I see one of these driving around my city every once in a while. theres only about 100.000 people where i live. its silver with blue stripes I believe it's got some LS based engine if i had to guess. The one guy I tried to talk to about it didn't really seem like he knew anything about it. he just seemed like he was getting gas in it basically driving it for somebody else. Very cool cars.
It's probably the test mule for that kit cat Ed was sent pictures of when he was hunting the El Chapo McLaren
Any car could be considered a poor man's F1 when the car costs 20 mil now, shit a veyron could be considered that lol
That much on a wedding seems ridiculous
looks to me the intake manifold is something like an Edlebrock street performer, dual plane. And if the Holly DP is an 850 you don't need it unless you are reving to over 8500rpm. 750DP is the carb up to 7500rpm. The bottom end goes to hell with an 800 DP, which I had on my 7500rpm cheby 350. A Holley 650DP makes wonderful power off the bottom , at least 50hp more up to around 6500prm where the power rolls over and then you appeciate the 750-800DP. So I stayed with the 800 because I liked reving from 4500-7500rpm. And if the Distributor is a Chevy, lose it and get something like an MSD7 type unit. Something like an Eldebrock Victor Jr/Holley 750DP and a real distributor will produce at least 50 hp more. If you keep the 850 DP the bottom end will suck. I sometimes wet the plugs on my engine. vacuum will be around 6" if you have any kind of a cam. And no AFB's, nothing else, only a HolleyDP with mechanical linkage. If you aren't reving to 7000 you should use a 650DP..... My engine loved it but as I said, I liked 800DP above 4500rpm.
Bit of info for you, the McLaren was conceived in New Zealand by our famous Bruce McLaren. On the back panel of a McLaren who will notice a cartoon type badge of a Kiwi, a New Zealand bird
Regards Howard NZ
Love the backstory!!!
I'm glad I'm just happy with the one 300zx and that's all I'll ever need I think...
I love when he says he punches above his weight with his wife. So true for me too!
Did mr Hard just call the Stig the Big Black Cok man..? 😂
Good for you brother man! Glad to see your still chasing your supercar dream 👊🏼💫
Mike Brewer looks funny. Has he had a hair transplant?
My uncle sold 2 Corvettes to pay for his welding.
The car is stunning. Good catch bro. Lovely lovely car. She’s a keeper
I hope he attains the supercar level he needs.
That's a fucking kit car lol
I think you can call it a supercar but only if you add a space between "super" and "car". 😄
Sam you’re a good guy bro. I respect what you did here
Swap you for an '02 beetle!
I got a ride in one of theses altima GTR'S. It had a chevy 350ci engine and sounded like a porsche flat 6. That was weird. Go figure.
That’s one car I’d never sell just keep it or offer it to the guy you bought it from for what the fair price is
I.. JUST watched a couple of days ago on National Geographic the Car SOS show, where they had a rerun on fixing an Ultima. A car that I've never heard of but loved right away from the first time I saw the episode a year ago. And now a VINwiki story for one!
Yeah it’s a hyper car
Who would sell that to get married???
If this dude gets a divorce I feel very bad.
Whauut? I jus wanna ear im say Ibeefah… I mean; Ibiza.. I
That car seems pretty super to me. 😉
Love how the people int he comments are smart.
Bad move selling the car for a wedding that expensive. 7 years from now, the dude will have no car, and likely no marriage, and the debt from her special day.
The fool spending all that on a wedding
McLaren F1s started manufacturing in 1992. Ultima started manufacturing in 1999.
@@LGB-FJB The first Ultima to go on sale was the Mk2 in 1988/9. McLaren did use a pair of Mk3 cars as development mules. That said, those cars were destroyed, this isn't one of them and most of the video is BS.
Cannonball run EUROPE, where they advertise what they're doing on a bright yellow kit car instead of doing everything possible to make the car low profile.
Ahhhh… MAYTE…. GORDON MURRAY designed the F1.. not Noble. This is quite a stretch claiming such BULLOCKS! , yeah ?
Press X.
It's an analog supercar
mischief is gumball 3000 og
tekademics iirc
IMO putting that livery on it was a mistake
I’m not a v6 boy I’m a v8 guy 😂 thru and thru
Sam hard not telling the truth. Shocking.
This dude is so delusional.
F*#:/ng good story!
Clickbaity
This guy is so Full of it simple Google search shows this company has alway built high-end kit car
Sam you make my day when your videos come up, thank you always!
this is an iconic comment
20k for a wedding? wtf is wrong with people...

I loved the story. But the poor guy whole sold his bby got ripped off.
So hed walk to get petrol instead of drive 1 of his other cars… yea likely story mate. Bullocks
If she loves you,
I'm just saying his enthusiasm over cars and his inner child that sees the potential in everything. You my friend should have been on top gear because you still get that excitement and I absolutely love it.
LOL, what a load of crap.
"It's not a supercar" I beg to differ. Anything that looks like that, with a V8 engine, IS a supercar in my opinion
I dont understand how Sam doesn't get the recognition and views, subscriber's etc. It's a brilliant channel. ♥️👍♥️
Hes full of it and ignorant.
He's exaggerating and not sticking to the truth. That will hurt viewership.
This guy has great stories to tell
