My pops and I were at this Game at the old Meadowlands. It was freezing that Sunday. My parents had Jet season tickets. Everything was great back in the day! I was home for winter break.
The crowd was REALLY into it. What's amazing is that yeah it was probably about 50-50, which means around 38,000 or so Jets fans and 38,000 Giants fans. But when either team did anything it SOUNDED like a stadium full of 76,000 fans cheering for the home team.
@@vicepresidentmikepence889 People always want to go back every 30 years to the way things used to be, do they? How much further do people want to go back...to the 1500's? Lol
Even in a loss a gritty performance from Phil Simms throwing 3 TDs and a few uncharacteristic big runs - as a Giant fan this still sticks with me years later - last game for Harry Carson and George Martin - special teams kileld the Gianta in this game - 2 missed FG's, Mcconkey's muff, kick return to midfield after Giants took the lead
That first miss by McFadden was an awful snap it looked like. In general it wasnt easy kicking at that stadium back then the wind was a lot worse and trickier than it is at Metlife for some reason
Giants were literally almost in the same exact situation the next year against an AFC team hovering around 500 (Raiders 8 7). They needed to win the game to win the division. The Eagles had won their game. The Giants didn’t blow it that time they won the game and won the division The only difference was had the Giants lost they still wouldve made the playoffs as a wild card.
The standings if the Giants had beaten the Jets, assuming everything else stayed the same: 1. Bears 2. Giants 3. 49ers 4. Vikings 5. Eagles ----- First team out: Rams The Eagles would’ve edged out the Rams, most likely on best net points in conference games tiebreaker. The Rams-49ers game would’ve been meaningless. In reality, we got: 1. Bears 2. 49ers 3. Eagles 4. Vikings 5. Rams ----- First team out: Giants Despite spending 11 weeks in first, the Giants coughed up the NFC East to the Eagles and had to rely on the 49ers winning to back into the playoffs. The 49ers got blown out 38-16, as the Giants ultimately missed the Wild Card berth to the Rams on conference win percentage.
What's ironic about those two playoff scenarios is that if the Eagles had been a WC instead of division champs, they still might have played in the Fog Bowl anyway vs. Bears. Assuming of course that the Eagles had won the WC game vs. Vikings.
The Giants suffered an inexplicable loss, although the key factors were Special Teams and O'Brien's comeback drive. The other unusual loss that combined to keep Big Blue out of the playoffs was at Home in Week 4 featuring a collapse of their inexperienced Secondary that gave up 45 points to LA Rams, Jim Everett. Nevertheless, our Synchotron 1988 forecast "Western-Playoff-Parallel" favored John Robinson's Rams to secure a Wild Card birth due to the trend in the other leagues. LA's Dodgers took out the NY Mets en route to Kirk Gibson's heroics that won the All-California World Series, Magic Johnson's Lakers gave Zeke's Pistons the kiss of death to notch their 11th NBA title, and even the lowly Kings limped into the playoffs three months before trading for "The Great One," Wayne Gretzky, 1988 Stanley Cup MVP for the Edmonton Oilers. The irony for the Rams was that the team they beat to gain a Wild Card, Joe Montana's 49ers, ultimately won the Super Bowl to complete a Western sweep of the four major championships. Synchotron forecast a similar Western Three bias for 2023, which to date has indeed manifest title wins for KC Chiefs, Denver Nuggets and Las Vegas Golden Knights.

Classic Giants jerseys and classic Jets jerseys! Uncle Verne and Terry Bradshaw were a good team.
Oh classic sports 👌 👏 you've done it again
This was technically a Jets home game (Jets season ticket holders got the game) but sounded close to 50/50 crowd cheers for both teams

Nice Terry Bradshaw demonstration with the glove!
That tape is horrible, but was awesome game, I wished I could go back, to 88, I hate what this world has become
The Irony is, I remember people back in 1988 saying "I wish we could go back to 1958, I hate what this world has become"
Mike Pence sucks.
Ah, the year of the crack epidemic..

New York Giants Against New York Jets From 1988 Battle Of Dead Last Finished Matchup Thanks For Uploading
Bradshaw was a great color commentator
Yea he was excellent...when he went to FOX they turned him into a cartoon character
Joe Morris’ last game with the Giants.
Thanks for the video! Do you happen to have 1991 Week 12 Vikings @ Packers, 2001 Week 4 Panthers @ 49ers, and 1980 both Patriots vs Jets matchups?

A costly loss

Please post whole game
I may start putting up full games on Rumble if I get more views over there. But full games on RUclips is not gonna happen.
No matter the HC, the QBs the players or seasons, the giants never make it easy and they never ever come up with a big defensive stop.
Taylor was already past his prime, too many injuries and he was aging.
Teams rarely wear home whites anymore. Such a shame.
