Champion Edition was my jam. I had that game fully beaten on top difficulty and top speed with all characters. I've always thought SF2 was the best iteration in the series. Not because of nostalgia, but because it was based on strategy, balanced characters, timing attacks, and understanding the strengths and weaknesses of each character. All these decades later every SF game since has just felt like button mashing trash, throwing skill out the window in favor of pressing everything in hopes that your character would respond the way you want them to. A few got close to the formula, like 3rd Strike and Ultra IV, but none of them hold the same replay value that gets the neighborhood together for weekly tournaments, or make you want to beat the game with everyone on the hardest difficulties. Sometimes simple done well is all you need for enjoyment.
Newer editions added more strategies. I like SF2 and have played it since the 90s. But i love SF5 way more, especially the SF2 arcade mode. The reason i still play SF2 with friends is because it is all they know. It has a very limited moveset so is more easy to pick up than later versions.

One thing that should be on a street fighter iceberg ( can't watch all the way atm to see if it is) is the fact that ken is japanese and immagrated to america and dyes his hair blonde, though this has probably been changed in canon at some point
@@johndewberryiii9925 if I remember right it comes from old source books that capcom put out years ago in Japan, might have been pulled from the artist notes on his design or possibly though unlikely the old sf tabletop rpg. Sorry I'm not more helpful but it has been years and years. Another one that could be included in a iceberg dealing with Cammy is it's quite possible a lot of cammys moves and some of her background story may have been ripped directly from battle angel (though this was never confirmed I don't think but cammyfan.com/Cammy-info/caminfo-frame.htm brakes alot of it down ) . And just my opinion I think cammy as a clone of bison/vega may have been foreshadowed in her move set as her cannon drill and cannon spike are just reversed moves of bison, psycho crusher sees him flying across the screen rotating arms forward cammy does the same just feet forward and her cannon spike is just a reverse head stomp kinda (again this is just a personal theory I have nothing to back it up)
What I remember reading and hearing is that Ken is three-quarters Japanese, with his mom being 100% (Ryu points this out in the anime Street Fighter II V) and his dad being 50/50. I could be wrong, though
Very good video. I'm sure you're aware that many of SF II's fight stages are inspired by American films the team had watched before development e.g. Hard Times (1975) starring Charles Bronson has scenes that inspired both Ken and Zangief's levels.

I know the history goes deep but I thought he was referring to SF2's easy to pick up hard to master iceberg. The strategy, which in Super SF2 Turbo is so deep after almost 30 years new tech is still being found.
Great video, but it just showed me how much of a big ass Street Fighter nerd I am because there wasn't much of anything I didn't already know haha
Great video as always!
I appreciate the street fighter stuff but honestly... lets see some feature length documentaries on Panzer Dragoon, the Nier Series, Valkyria Chronicles, and all the SNES/N64 classics like F-Zero, Star Fox, Pilot Wings. Apologies if you did some of these already and I missed it.
Technically bison In the movie pronounces Ryu's name closest to the actual Japanese pronunciation. Most folks in here in the states tend to pronounce it RY-YOU or Re-oo. Listen to the Japanese name prnounciations for all the ultimate smash characters compared to the American versions its kinda cool.
John 5, the guitarist for shock rockers Marilyn Manson and Rob Zombie, played guitar on the English dub's score for the SF2 Animated Movie. He was credited under his legal name, John Lowery (who didn't use the John 5 stage name until he joined Manson's band).
I simply ❤ this game !, I bought an Xbox just for Street fighter 4. Though I'm an arcade guy and Street fighter 2 will always be my favorite
That thumbnail had me scared a bit because I saw Chun li next to it!
But the title tells me the real thing 😌

Holy cràp! The Milpitas Golf Land was my first big arcade. My dad would drive up from Boulder Creek to hang out with an old friend and just drop me off with 40 bucks! As a gamer who only plays apps nowadays (Another Eden, Summoners War)... I gotta say, I wanna play Typhoon Girl.
This was an amazing history run-down thank you.
We’re glad you enjoyed!
Ah Human Killing Machine... that was one of my favourite classic Ashens episodes under the "terrible old games you've probably never heard of" series!
One of the best gaming franchises ever made
Street Fighter could be one of the greatest TV shows ever made if they got the right cast and show runners. It has Game of Thrones level potential with story and drama, but they’d need to not cheese it while also paying homage to the games.
Wow, I didn't know you used the informations from VGFacts? I'm glad the info I've found came useful to you.
Where's the link for Chun-Li's art? The one you used for the thumbnail?
I didn't think I could possibly learn shittier things about DSP, but the internet keeps proving me wrong...
Troll Daddy Top Hat, you're the fucking man, yeeeeeaaaaaaaah
One thing that should be on a street fighter iceberg ( can't watch all the way atm to see if it is) is the fact that ken is japanese and immagrated to america and dyes his hair blonde, though this has probably been changed in canon at some point
I’ve heard this for years and makes sense with the black eyebrows blonde hair. Always took it as rumor though never read anywhere.
The black and white fighters in the start-up screen remind me of the two fighters in the parking lot fight in Lionheart.
Hey man used to watch your videos fancy seeing you here. You play any sf?
@@stolensentience I think I remember you. Yeah, SF is one of my childhood favorites, though I haven't got into it in years. Maybe one day I'll hook up the PS3 again and play.
In SF4's small airfield stage Balrog is in the background airplane,if ur Balrog then Vega is in there,if the fight is Balrog vs Vega then Bison is in there
18:36 I had a controller that was kinda like that. Different colored buttons tho. I think mine had purple
There needs to be a proper Street Fighter movie made!
You mean live action? Bc sf2 animated movie is perfect. Alpha is terrific as well
Nice stuff! I knew a lot about SFII over multiple times writing bios for the characters, and there was STILL stuff in here I didn't know (like the origins for Dhalsim). So "Iceberg" videos are just massive piles of backstory and facts?
That Master System version looks pretty good, not surprising Capcom were impressed by it.
i did enjoy and am lucky to have two stand up arcade cabinets. thank you
In the street fighter movie,Ryu's last name is Hoshi
Unknown hack in the arcades, when your dead and the numbers count down, quickly insert another coin and press start, hey presto your taken to the character select screen and your back in action
Do a deep dive on the SNK fighting game iceberg. Don't forget to reference the 1989 SNK fighter Street Smart.
When I first played Street Fighter 2 in the arcades, I felt arcades would never be the same, and that made me sad.
I'd love a wonder boy / monster land iceberg, going down even to shantae as it was clearly inspired by it and the adventure islands gordian knot mess :D
