This is the problem that stopped me from hitting consistently over decades. I am glad I finally realized that and have it corrected myself and verified with your video that I have done the right thing (the second scenario). I would blame tiger for making me always trying to make a “full shoulder turn” yet causing the dipping of my head forward towards the ball. LOL. Now I am running towards low single digit! Thank you very much for this video!

Ive tried so many things to stop moving my head at the top of the backswing. Bought a mirror and had my neighbors laugh at me. This simple feel of "head down chest turned up" from the "ball on the wall" drill has been miraculous. Thank you so much

I like it. Very few people ever discuss the slight bend in the right elbow that still exists at impact, they always just talk about the straight line release and triangle formed on follow through.

Thanks Jonathan and congratulations on reaching 10K subscribers. Well deserved for all the detailed knowledge you share. As to my biggest swing problem, it it's keeping my head level throughout the swing which often results in too much shifting of my low point. I'm not sure what the fundamental problem is (i.e. getting too close to the ball during my back swing or shifting my weight back during the back swing). I really feel that nailing this is key to vastly improving my game and my enjoyment of golf for which we both share a passion. All the best and thanks again for all your helpful instruction. Sean

So I didn't know why I was hitting so hard into the ground. My head was lowering and my bum coming forward so much that I restricted my downswing. Been struggling with this for years even though a 9 handicap. Had multiple lessons and play fairly well but I could feel this issue on every shot. This video got me excited to try your technique. After two hours hitting the best shots in years effortlessly down the range I can't praise or thank you enough. Fantastic explanation and drills. Honestly a huge well done!

I came here because my head lifts and chest early extends prior to impact. I prob do both of each flaw you demonstrated but likely more of #2. Makes sense if my head dips and moves forward in the backswing that it would do the opposite in the downswing. I’m hoping I finally figured it out.

Hi Johnathan. I have followed 4 ST instructors. I go back to you when things get a bit clouded. I’ve been a hooker of the ball most of my life, and have found ST to be the first method of swing that I can repeat without having to think about what I’m doing throughout the swing. However the hook is always in my mind and my stock swing still produces the odd severe hook. Thank you for your videos, and stay safe.

My biggest problem is that i come on the inside through my takeaway. It has plagued me for years. I have tried numerous things including some lessons and nothing has ever been able to fix the problem as i cant get the feeling of parallel point one while im swinging. Been desperately needing some outside of the box thinking that could fix this problem once and for all. It is the only thing that holds me back from reaching my full potential. I love watching your videos as i feel your way of instruction is different to the generic/traditional ways of coaching and would love to see if we could work together to combat my swing fault. Congrats on 10k, heres to the next 10k! 🏌🎉

Both shoulders have had rotator cup surgery & I had to have surgery on my intestine. January 2021 I will have knee surgery. So I am a canvas that needs an artist to help me have a somewhat decent swing.

This is me to a tee!
my downfall in my swing is tempo
sometimes it's slow and controlled back swing then its as if I unleash the downswing way to fast.
this leads to poor rotation as my body can't keep up with my hands
wrist control is lost and its generally a poor fat shot

    Hi Jonathan,
Thank you for your insightful comments in this area. I am trying to change to the “Stack and Tilt” swing, and the 2nd concept there is “Shoulder Down”, so that is where my dipping is coming from resulting in inconsistent contact. Thanks for the drills in this area. I will try to stand a little more upright going forward.

Hitting behind the ball is my greatest challenge in golf.
    Full shots, chips, & pitching.
I believe lack of good hand eye coordination is the main problem. I also believe this is the reason why some people are better at sports than others.
No amount of practice, lessons, or new equipment will fix this issue. No one seems to admit this reality of life.
We all can get better but not all can get really good.

Jonathan, let me know your thoughts on how I found it helpful to get proper bend and avoid the overbend. As a drill to get the proper bend I stand up straight and side bend over my left hip, parallel left of the target, while keeping my hips and shoulders centered. I then turn my shoulders, keep my head centered over the ball to a full backswing.
I was introduced to S&T years ago but it was not presented to me properly and I found myself doing a reverse pivot. So I kept my standard swing of weight shift from left foot to right foot and back to left foot at impact. The trouble I had was timing my weight shift which was never consistent.
I found you shortly after reading The Stack And Tilt Swing (the red book) authors Michael Bennett and Andy Plummer and I ate this book up. Your ability to communicate and produce productive results is the reason I have subscribed to your RUclips channel.
I am 68 years old and a few years ago I was a 3.5 index but my lower back began to hurt and I am now a 7.8. I play in Chicago weather and play a few 18 holes each year, but I play 9 holes at my home course 5 to 6 times each week which is a 128 slope and par 36. I scored a few good rounds. My lowest was a 33 and missed an eagle putt being less than ball short, with one 34, a few 35's and 36's.
I used the S&T over the past few weeks and I more consistently felt compression at impact and I hear a wonderful sound that I seldom have heard at impact hitting ball first and divots were past the ball.
My focus will be on my short game and learn to get a more shallow divot and score better with my wedges.
During the winter season, I will not only work on more flexibility and strength, but I will also be using a new Tablet and the LiveView Pro Camera I purchased. I will create the templates for proper S&T positions while improving on the 3 golf fundamentals of:
1). Consistent divot past the ball with all but the driver.
2). Gain clubhead and ball speed.
3). Ability to shape my ball flight using the S&T drills to improve Impact with proper clubface and swing path.
I like your passion for this great sport and I will be practicing your swing drills.
I hope to be able to shoot my age for the next 15 to 20 years.

This may help me to counter my forward - tilting, head - moving, shoulder - dipping tendencies in the backswing, - what I've been trying to get rid of for quite some time; and might help to transfer "the dip" to the transition/ downward movement (ground pressure), - if that's the better idea.

Another well done video. Sadly, I’m finally realizing that trying to implement these drills without someone observing and or having the ability to see myself with feedback is relatively pointless!! My thought is that my problems are tied to my takeaway/backswing ! If I don’t feel I’m in a good backswing position I’ll rush the downswing . Or if I have a hazard I’ll rush the entire swing unconsciously thinking that it will minimize the bad results! Obviously very much a feel player because i can go from shooting 39 on one nine and high forty’s on the other nine. Or like lately striking the ball great at range warm up then a completely horrible swing on first nine then shoot low round on back. Frustrating !!!

Great videos, thanks for all the help!! My biggest flaw is to “cast” the club or release it too early. This implies to loose all the speed earlier in the downswing and at the moment of the impact my hands are in line with the head club and not ahead as they are supposed to be, getting a higher ball flight. The distances for the irons are pretty decent tho.

My swing flaws are flipping through impact and sliding hips with too much right bend through the ball. I hit blocks and pulls with the long irons and driver. I’m a scratch handicap but am inconsistent.

Hey Jonathan my biggest swing fault is over swinging and cup in lead wrist

Sometimes the face is open at impact and I think it has to do with my arm/wrist rotation during my back swing.

Great video! Quick question about the head against wall drill. I understand that this helps one feel the correct shoulder turn without dipping. But do you have any advice on how to incorporate this into a golf swing? I find I can do the movement without a club no problem. But once I introduce the club, the fault creeps back in. Thanks!
