The abdication of Edward VIII was the best thing that ever happened to this country. His wife was a Nazi sympathiser who had reputedly had affairs with prominent Nazis. Edward himself was also a huge fan of Adolf Hitler. With him in charge, we never could have won WWII. George VI was a sweet, shy man, who loved this country, hated Hitler and when he was asked to flee London for his own safety, refused, saying that a King should take the same risks as his people. His wife was similarly brave and when the palace was hit by a bomb, she said that at least she could look the East End in the face now that she too had suffered a hit. George's reign also ensured that his daughter Elizabeth would be our next monarch. She has undoubtedly been a good one.
Elizabeth would have been Queen anyway because her favourite uncle David (aka Edward VIII, Prince of Wales & Duke of Windsor) died childless in 1972 and Elizabeth was next in line.
What amazes me to think about is that the Queen has not only been alive for every major event that has happened since 1926 but has also had a front row seat and insider information for those events. I wonder if the people closest to her understand that and pick her brain about those world events?
Two minutes in - Norman is actually shot for "Norse Men". The Vikings basically invaded everywhere, took over a place, married local women, absorbed the local culture and language. So by 1066 they would have been considered "Norman French". Whereas in England we had we had kicked out the Viking invaders, and taken back their Dane Law kingdom which had covered about half of England. Which is the background to the "English" Robin Hood's feud with the "Norman" Sherriff of Nottingham.
You missed out an important episode: after the end of the Danelaw, the reconquest of the Viking kingdom in York in 954 and the re-creation of the kingdom of England thereby, the Danes harrassed the Saxon king Ethelred the Unready from the 980s after which he was forced to pay Danegeld. Eventually, after Ethelred massacred Danish settlers at the St Brice's Day Massacre in 1002 (proof that the Danes hadn't been kicked out by that time), the Danish king, Sweyn Forkbeard, seized the throne of England from the house of Wessex (King Ethelred and other royal princes fled to Normandy). Sweyn's son, Canute and his sons Harold I and Hardicanute, ruled England from 1016 until 1042. Canute's North Sea empire was breaking up at that point and Edward the Confessor (who was half-Norman and Hardicanute's half-brother) was able to return from his long exile in Normandy. So, if we take Edward to have been largely Norman culturally as well as half-Norman ethnically, and if we disregard the short reign of Harold II Godwinson of only 9 months, you could argue that the Vikings had the last laugh rather than the Anglo-Saxons from 1016 right up to the Norman conquest. Siward, Earl of Northumbria, one of Canute's nobles, was kept on by Edward until Siward's death in 1055. Siward's son, Waltheof (who was half-English) was Earl of Northumbria under William the Conqueror until he was executed for treason in 1076. So, in fact, the Vikings in England were not all kicked out - some stayed, intermarried with the general population and held positions of authority.
Actually you're partly correct. The succession is instant: the moment Elizabeth dies Charles will suceed her (unless he dies first, then it will be William) so the monarch never dies. So the royal standard will never be flown at half mast.

Rather oddly, I've always enjoyed royal family trees, in spite of being left-wing politically. Therefore I love the complications of the Wars of the Roses. I don't like starting with 1066. William the Conqueror very much thought himself the legitimate heir of the Anglo-Saxon monarchs of the House of Wessex; he was married to a descendant of Alfred the Great, and had a better right than Harold II, who was a complete usurper and not from the House of Wessex. Henry I then married the great-granddaughter of Edward the Confessor's elder brother, and thus kept that descent. The family tree of the House of Wessex is every bit as complicated as later on. The best way to understand the descent is that the word 'King' actually means 'a member of the Royal tribe'. Therefore we pick the King or Queen we want from among the members of the Royal Family, not necessarily choosing the next in line.

Elizabeth II of United Kingdom
Charles III of United Kingdom
The controversial royal family? Not really.
Richard the Third was framed!
It is King Henry the second not two. This idiot is on the wrong planet we say second, third and fourth not two, three and four. Prince Charles (big ears) could be Charles III, Philip I or Arthur II or George VII which is he going to use his name is HRH Charles Philip Arthur George The Prince of Wales as well as other titles.
There was never a King Arthur so Charles III if he did chose Arthur as his name he would’ve been King Arthur I
Wow! I couldn't listen to this Bro' because your mic' drowns out the video commentary!
A bit like the premier league.👍🏻🍻
9 out of 10 yanks cannot even find England on a map. I think we can fast forward to the obvious reaction as simply "duh?" and move on to more entertaining click bait as if an "American Reaction" is noteworthy ... moving on.
