    You knew somebody would ask… we can sauté onions without oil, but do we need oil in the recipe? If these were sweet I’d know what to substitute, but savory? No idea…. If we eliminate it, do we miss out on anything? Thanks for recipe! 😉😊

      Excellent question, Nicol! The oil in gives the balls some more moist texture. Remember, gluten-free flours are not rich in gluten, this means they have less water in their constitution. If you ad water instead of oil, it will disappear when cooked, the oil will stay inside the balls and create much more pleasant texture. What I can advise you to do is to substitute the water for unsweetened coconut yogurt, and add less oil since coconut has natural fats. Cheers! :)

      @@ChefJana thank you so much! 😃 Frankly, I didn’t realize (or remember) that the recipe was gluten free. Coconut your only recently became available where I live, so that is a good option. Thanks again for all your recipes. In my imagination I have made and enjoyed all of them…. ❤️😉😊

      Save the Spinach! You can put loose leaves in a container and freeze them. When you go to use the spinach the brittle frozen leaves can be easily crushed into "chopped" spinach to cook with. Spinach takes up so much room in the fridge that I sometimes wilt the leaves in one of my biggest pots, stirring them constantly over the heat. Just before they begin releasing moisture I stuff the wilted spinach into muffin tins to freeze. These leaves remain whole, but I have a quick cup of spinach to add to soups or smoothies, and, I reclaim valuable real estate in my refrigerator.

    Did I see an empty freezer? Great recipe, as always. I would add that nutmeg and spinach is a match made in heaven, for those who don't have Garam masala.

    Made these tonight for the family with a few alterations, couldn't find rice flour, so I used coconut flour, very good, added it to the keeper list

    I'm on the AIP (Auto-Immune Protocal Diet / Gut Healing) -- so there's no grains. I always substitute either plantain or cassava flour for all of your recipes! They turn out great!! I love doing that with the banana peel cheeseburger!!

    For the dip you said to use unsweetened coconut milk, but in the description you state coconut yogurt. Can I use either then?
    BTW, I made the spinach balls and they just came out of the oven. They are really crispy! You are right about the garam Masada. It really makes a difference 😋

    I think I will try it with chickpea flour as that is what I have on hand. I shall have to find something else for the dip as vegan yogurt isn't available where I live and shop.

    Lovely recipe! Just one question - Can baking powder be skipped? Maybe the cooking time would be more but I think perhaps it can be avoided..? Lemme know ur thoughts..

    Wow, the Garam masala really surprised me. ( stopped me in my track s) I’m sure I’d love it though. What about adding Old Bay seasoning? That’s where my mind was going while watching the progression of seasonings. You have definitely inspired me. Thanks Miss Jana.

      So I made them, wrung out the thawed spinach, added garam masala AND curry😄, plus black pepper cause black pepper gets added to everything in my kitchen😎, forgot the lemon juice, freezer break, then fried them cause I am an impatiant gal😄, and was out of any yoghurt so patched up an easy, brilliant dip I learned from my Syrian friends: lemon juice, garlic, cumin. The spinach balls are really crunchy, I love that! Would add more amount of the spices next time (I always am careful first time....😄), and had I had any pine nuts lying around I would have added them to the mixture, for some reason my mind thought that would be a nice addition!

    Anyone try ALMOND FLOUR since rice is high glyphosate? Also any switch outs for high glycemic potato starch? Yep, picky for health reasons. Thx for all kind responses.

    That coconut milk looks more like coconut yogurt? My coconut milk is runny and very liquidy.
