Wonderful to see the reconstruction work. I used to explore the muddy and overgrown towpath back in the 1960s. Back then, the canal looked too far gone to ever restore, so all credit to the volunteers who are achieving the impossible.

@@richardstuart325 they do an amazing job, most people dismiss these projects but they fail to see what a small group of dedicated volunteers can do

Very impressive lock restoration work, showing what volunteer effort can do, and why it is needed. Thank you for a very informative update on this wonderful project.

Hello Sir , I do enjoy seeing abandoned canals like this , there is just something about them that I like , interesting decay .thinking about the people that used to use them years ago . Long forgotten places .

I love the canals for that, some areas you go to you can feel the history around you, you can imagine the noise and the smells.

Counter forts are very evident in the recently re-built Barton Wood Lock on the

funny story time i used to fish the first lock u walked up to at muston was always loads of perch right in tight to the water fall my gran used to walk or bike down from muston to see me sometimes she used to hate me leaning on the fence saying it wasn't safe one fine summers day there i was getting the odd perch and watching the area above the lock where id fed some dog biscuits for carp and a 2.0 earthquake happened near melton mowbray the whole fence shook and gave me the scare of my life there was also a ripple right down the center of the canal along the stretch above a guy fishing abit along from me shouted over what the hell was that we both looked at each other in shock and few minutes later both packed up fishing for the day. safe to say every time i fished that lock after i never leaned on the fence. havent been to the area for close to 20 years now one day i will revist and give it a fish again just for the childhood memorys of meny fish that i caught in the area.

The blue bricks are "engineering" bricks, they are fired for longer and are very hard used for high strength applications.

Yes, I’m a plumbing and heating engineer as a job and they are always a nightmare to drill, they are rock hard
