@@Cairo98_ I always thought that song was about a police confrontation. That would explain the “I don’t have a gun” and the cop asking the subject to “Come as they are”: to surrender. There have been weirder Nirvana song subjects
That "find me out of season" line really hit me. We've all been in that place of self loathing where you are so depressed and hate yourself, don't take care of yourself, think that you are in a state that no one can ever love you in. We think we have to beat depression or addiction in order to be worthy of love, but Kurt is saying "find me out of season", find me when I'm at my worst point and love me when I need it most, when I feel the least worthy of affection.
This is really haunting for a song in the major scale. Also, that picture of him looking depressed in his Smells like Teen Spirit outfit really symbolizes something... you can’t see his face because it’s covered up by a shadow. This shadow is fame. The only thing showing is his hair, the outfit, and his guitar. This symbolizes how the media didn’t care about Kurt as a person, or his individuality, they just cared about how popular he was. To most people and the media, Kurt was just a grunge figure. And this photo shows that.
Nice point of view, but however edited that picture wasn't thinking of that... It just looks cool. Also, the media has always been like this. They admire X artist because of their public figure. They could care less about the actual individual. As soon as you become irrelevant and poor, they forget you. Kurt wasnt the first victim of this.
***** I pulled out the box set and brought disk 3 to work. Needless to say this song was on replay FOREVER. I love the raw recording but could you imagine if they'd been able to do this at the studio? If only....
Beautiful and so sad. People generally think All Apologies was Kurt's goodbye, but I think Do Re Mi was. There's such a bittersweet feeling to it. Like Kurt's accepted all that will be. Melancholic but also triumphant in a way. I look up to Kurt so much as I resonate with him a lot.

If I'm red, and cold as ice. I might have, to see me heeal me... Bridge #2: Raised in, his own care. Erased from, this moment. The change from, his sock that I may neeed.. Chorus #2: Re Mi Re Mi Well... Do Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi... Wish me good, and wish me life. Find me out, of season. In your way, just be quiet. Follow pain, and be me. Yell or whale, and if I sigh. Seek me out, and take me. If I may, and if I might. Got a gun, to bleed me... Bridge #3: A phrase, in his pocket. Erased from, his woman. The chain's from his owner in my teeeaaaa.... Chorus #3: Re Mi Re Mi Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi Do Re Mi... I know these lyrics to be right not only from time spent listening and rewinding, but also because I'm a songwriter and am able to hear the stressing on certain phrases that some people might not catch because of the way it can slur when bending and shifting vocal notes!! I put a lot of work into this so I hope some of y'all appreciate this!!

the last thing in the mix is that it is not a real song and wouldve been scratched by him if he'd lived. I write songs and can sense when it's a dead-end, most everything a songwriter comes up with never turns into a song because you realize it's going nowhere and wasnt meant to be.

First time hearing this in the middle of the night under a full moon. I believe we discover acts of beauty at specific moments. There’s no explanation. It’s a beautiful song in its early workings. from listening to this, I can confirm that the chorus is completely 'Do Re Mi', but the last one is completely 'Don't rape me'. I have listened to many Nirvana songs, so I listened and made sure to find the slight 'p' sound, which is well disguised with Kurt's voice.

I come here every year on the 5.4 because in my opinion this is the most symbolic song for the day of his passing, his last known song... Can't believe it's been 27 years since he died at the age of 27... I was still in utero of my mom when he died, but this still hurts very much.....
It never fails to amaze me even after all these years how incredibly clever, sweet and sad kurt was. It's such a mixture of emotions whenever I hear his music. The world lost one of the most unique persons that ever lived, I'm glad as painful as it is that he lived in an era that I lived in. RIP brother.
When my mom passed away in 2013, this song reminds me of that time. I was listening to this song a LOT and cried 😓❤️. Somehow it is so melancholic but still full of hope. Still gives chills to my spine.
Im literally crying right now thinking about not ever being able to see Kurt Cobain in real life and this being one of his last songs before he died. 😖😣😔
It's so beautiful. He was in so much pain and sorrow this song makes that loud and clear. It feels like a goodbye song. I heard this somewhere and I didn't even know it was him. Now I'm glad I do. Beautiful 💕.
I in all these years am pretty much sure he wanted to die. Courtney was leaving him, his voice was gone and Nirvana wasn't the same. The heroin became to much and both kept going back to it. Think he told the nanny to make sure it was done, that kid always seemed so gloomy. Figure he was into Courtney as well, pretty sure Kurt knew she was cheating on him with pretty much anyone with a hard dick. Kurt probably said fuck it and had his last big fix and was suffering and nanny finished him w Kurts help. Suicide ran in Kurts family, as much a Nirvana fan that I've been since the late '80s you can hear his soul is tired ever since his 2 diseased loves, Courtney and Heroin. I'm sure he felt like shit being everyone's hero and raising a daughter that would find out his first love is opiates. a lot of guilt with him, sad... Kurt needed people who cared instead he got fame, and a whore for a spouse who had her own demons.
So this is how good the next album would have been.. it's easy to think Nirvana would have gone to shit or lost popularity but you hear this and you remember it wouldn't happen, the guy wrote amazing music which is why they were famous, they weren't famous by luck, it was truly genius and a gift.
Agree...I'm sure this is the direction Kurt would have gone. It's easier to sing also. Maybe he does one last Nirvana album and let's Dave do Foo Fighters after.

I thought this may interest people who love Nirvana. I have a rare Itinerary that I got in a "In Utero/Box-Set" here in Australia in 2013. It was for the 20th anniversary of the album's release date. Now it came with a Book and a few little collectors items. A invisible man mask, 4 CDs, 2 DVD's, etc. Now in one of the sleeves in the In Utero book, they had the complete itinerary of both the North American Tour Dates, including press days, and other stuff, like days off, Travel days via, Planes or Buses, depending on the loup etc, etc. So for the European Dates, it says Nirvana left America from Seattle to LAX, then to Paris, during the early morning hours of February 2 1994. They arrived in France around mid-day February 2 1994. February 3, says rest day. February 4th they play a variety show in France, where they played the 3 songs, in those pinstripe suits. They rehearsed as part of the shows segments earlier in the day. The actual show was filmed earlier, mid-afternoon, so Nirvana could travel to Cascais, Portugal on the evening of February 4th. It says they traveled by plane to Portugal from France I thought they just used the 2 Tour Buses during the European Tour, but I'm going by what it says. They arrived in Portugal, by 11:45pm February 4th. And on the afternoon of February 5th they rehearse in a space at the hotel allocated for the band to rehearse etc. Lastly on the morning of February 6th they rehearse at the arena in Cascais Portugal where they are scheduled to play that night, do a soundcheck, it even says rehearsels finished at 2:00pm soundcheck starts from 3:05pm to 3:50pm. Kurt and Pat Smear and Melora Creagar, the cello player go back to the hotel for an hour or so, they come back to the arena with 2 members from the Buzzcocks less than an hour later. Go figure. And that is the start of Nirvana's European Tour of February/March.
Does anyone else feel that this all points to his suicide? I mean, Kurt didn't put much into his lyrics but this was months before his death. Looking his lyrics like "don't rape me" is talking to the critics and maybe even his fans to leave him alone, let him go back to being a small little band in Seattle and that's he's tired of living with his wife and the heavy feelings in his heart. He also talks about how he doesn't want to get frozen to someday return to this awful world, "cremate me." This is what I see in the song, and maybe he wrote these lyrics not knowing what they truly meant. It's interesting discussion just can never be truly answered...
the song rape me is about not wanting to sell out but having to cause of record deals. courtney also said it her self after kurt passed, about people making merch un officially and putting his suicide note on t-shirts "they are raping kurt" was her words if im correct, so theres that too.
This song is a mix of optimism, and like someone said, Kurt’s melancholy. Soulful all around. Sounds like someone on the verge of pulling through the muck of severe depression. Very sorry it didn’t work out that way. RIP.
Both of them are actually the same meaning on rape victims. Nirvana was a feminist band and a lot of Kurts songs had hidden meanings that people back then wouldn’t really get
I listen to Kurt's voice most of the time, putting it in front of the music--but, in these acoustic home recorded songs, I listen to his guitar, and place the strumming up front. With my focus on the rhythm, feeling each chord's dissonance or harmony, I hear his voice as a melody supporting the music. The lyrics and his story comprise the background. This brings a fresh perspective to the experience of hearing his songs and is a bright pleasure to see, like standing back from something you've been hard at work at to see it's beauty and grandeur.

It’s crazy how the most beautiful things can come from the most hurt people
I've seen how many people get upset, upset or sad that this song wasn't produced better or didn't appear on a next album for obvious reasons. From my maybe stupid point of view, I feel that this demo itself is perfect. I would have liked it remastered or a final version, but I feel that by itself and for the fact that we can still have the opportunity to listen to it, I appreciate it and I feel that it is perfect as it is.

We think we have to beat depression or addiction in order to be worthy of love, but Kurt is saying "find me out of season", find me when I'm at my worst point and love me when I need it most, when I feel the least worthy of affection.
This comment genuinely made me cry
@@azrael4771 it's heartbreaking.
Exactly!! Poor Kurt .. :(
Nice point of view, but however edited that picture wasn't thinking of that... It just looks cool.
Also, the media has always been like this. They admire X artist because of their public figure. They could care less about the actual individual. As soon as you become irrelevant and poor, they forget you. Kurt wasnt the first victim of this.

Wish me good,
and wish me life.

+Willam Shelton I have checked several other different versions of those lyrics before making this video. I must say, none of them coincided so I chose the one that fitted the best. At some point you can't really understand what he's saying so the lyrics can be interpretable.

And if I may
And if I might

And if I say
What it's like
I might be dreaming
And if I may
What is right
Some in time, see me heal
For years in his blonde head
The phrase from his pocket
Chains from the knowing lifelong dream
Do Re Mi X4
And if I may
And if I might
Wake me up, see me
And if I do
And if I like
Find me out and see me
And if I'm made

Raised in his own care
Erased from his moment
Chased from the socket
I will need
Re Mi X2
Do Re Mi X4
Wish me good
And wish me life
Find me now in season
In their way
Just be quiet
Follow pain and breed me
In the well
And if I sigh
Sake me out on a TV
And if I may
And if I might
Got a gun to bleed me

This song always makes me feel so...I cant put my finger on it. It's a mix of sadness, wistful ness, sympathy and something else.
the last thing in the mix is that it is not a real song and wouldve been scratched by him if he'd lived. I write songs and can sense when it's a dead-end, most everything a songwriter comes up with never turns into a song because you realize it's going nowhere and wasnt meant to be.

Agree...I'm sure this is the direction Kurt would have gone. It's easier to sing also. Maybe he does one last Nirvana album and let's Dave do Foo Fighters after.
I think his heart was ready to stick around, but that brain can really do some damage.

Very nice information thanks for sharing

RIP.
Last song I ever listened too goodbye ever love u all.
U alright
@@BenJi-di5mn guess no
So Beatle-esque... so awesome Kurt was influenced by the Beatles
Actually it's only john Lennon..not the band
I can also hear The Beatles influences in this song
@@okirrama3587 Kurt didn't know which Beatle made what song.
This song gives me chills
The sequel to "Rape Me"
3:07 Sickening how they treat me :(
The 94 album should be so good,but...
😢
Rape me
Don't rape me
Make up your mind, KURT!
Ha
We all know his lyrics were ambiguous when writing new songs, don't take these as scripture.
