Song is about death and the belief or hope to cross over to somewhere eternal. It's actually very sad because in line he doesn't believe there to be anything after death, coming from a man who many a time sad this life is just a pitstop
@@johanburger6109 that is so fucking weird, bro at the end of the song Kurt says "Jesus Saves" LOL like idk, its a trip. I think kurt was a special messenger.

The fact that so few of you realize that this is how songs are written is hilarious to me. There are no lyrics to this song yet guys. He is singing random things to figure out how he wants his words and the vocal melody to sound. You aren't hearing anything profound to write out. There is little reason to identify the words he’s saying and provide them as subtitles. Instead, you should be identifying the emotion he was pulling out of the void for us, as he made the melody up on the spot.
I’d agree, except I’ve heard two other outtakes of Old Age, and an acoustic… and those are true works in process… humming, no structure, made up sounds at random… this is the most structured and completed version I’ve heard… now doesn’t mean its finished. But either this is as close to something he could live with, or he said F it and never went back to try. Even though the words are random, it’s still somewhat linear , which Kurt clearly isn’t known to do. Also vague and open to interpretation, which he IS known to do a lot It makes me think it had. Some type of meaning… or Kurt gave up trying to make it work. But that’s as much of a song as any Nirvana demo ever was.
The lyrics for "Screen" is almost correct, the lyrics are: " Am I am Afraid, It's a fire our house Is gone, And I Refrain, Are you lost, you go, you little boy, Your knotted fingers meet the floor And No, Like a baby, He Ignores, And I want to obey me, Free spin flowers beneath your ray, Your silent bit, and I will sway, The sea in front of me, away And now I know, pain... "
Nurettin Yildiz Navruzoglu it is pretty interesting lyrics -"keep it down to one more species , one more hour and face my servants " i think maybe by servants kurt meant habits "come on higher way im begging" sounds like a comedown or a craving .
First of all: Thanks for uploading this and attempting to provide the lyrics! Instantly I noticed parts were incorrect and without coherence. This inspired me to attempt to capture the lyrics myself and for the past hours I've listened to it over and over and over again. My oh my what a task! Half way through the song I decided to quit because some parts afterwards are really undecipherable for me and I'm too tired now. Besides just listening to his words I tried to figure out what the song is about (the art itself). Many of his songs are about mast**bation and/or s*x -issues if you listen carefully (check out Spank Thru & Paper Cuts!) and I noticed the same vibe in this song..... I tried my best to uncover his lyrics for the world to share and I would love to be corrected when needed and to collaborate with others to get to the correct version of his lyrics. So don't feel shy to correct my attempt too! I thorougly researched and looked up meanings of possible words and some were very uncommon, but suit the context in my opinion, like "Prain' is slang for "an unfaithful person" and "Spash" means "thick whitish liquid that's ejaculated from a male p*n*s'. The Lyrics (of the first half of the song): And I am a prain It’s a fire our house is gone hmmm hmmm And I refrain you gonna, you got your little war enough from draining me to poor And know I can - baby-y - ignore. This version has taken me hours to find. They got it buried deep. Not even the same as the one I was looking for, but it is the same lyrics I was looking for. Almost, I think? Pretty close. The one I was trying to find starts out with Kurt saying some weird words, maybe in spanish, then goes into this same version. I didn't read all the lyrics, but the one I was looking for he is basically confessing Jesus as lord and kinda explained why they killed him. Something along the lines of not wanting to sacrifice his daughter.???
This has been my favorite song for years, since I heard it actually, I always wonder why he never liked it that much, I kind of think that it was so good that he felt embarrassed or if he played it live or on an album he was being too "superior" cus he was always modest and respected good shit that came before him, but I think with this song he really broke into the new realm of musicality that only he did, so I suppose he could see that, but he would've felt like an arrogant prick playing it all the time, cus he always had weird guilt trips about stuff. Quincy Maxwell I don't know about "better" modern musicians when discussing influence. But, there are some amazing musicians out there today, you just have to find them. Most of them made a shift to blues. Meanwhile the mainstream gets hipster folk, Indy rock, pop, and hip hop. I wish blues would come back... or even this...
The beginning is "Intro"/Tuning/Screen/Old Age/Lowrider recorded In 1992 and Kurts using his Stella Harmony 12-String Acoustic (which only had 5 Nylon Strings which he never changed) this Acoustic was Used on "Polly" and "Lithium" from the April 2-6, 1990 Smart Studios, Madison, WI sessions ("Polly" from the Smart Sessions from April '90 is the same one on the Nevermind album, they just added Dave's back up harmony vocals to the track then added it to the Nevermind Album) which Nirvana had done with Bleach ("Floyd The Barber", Paper Cuts" and "Downer" were recorded on January 23, 1988 with Dale Crover on Drums), ("Love Buzz" and "Big Cheese" was recorded In June 1988, and the rest of the songs from Bleach were recorded December 24 & 29-31, 1988 and January 14 & 24, 1989) so the Bleach Album is not a one session album they took songs from different Sessions and put them together for one Album. So Nevermind was all recorded May 2-28, 1991 at Sound City Studios, Van Nuys, CA and Devonshire Studios, Burbank, CA. except "Polly" which is from April 2-6, 1990 Smart Studios, Madison, WI. Anyways, this 1992 demo of "Old Age" which included an unknown "Intro", then Kurt tuned the Stella, then played "Screen" and then "Old Age" and ended with a little jam on "Lowrider" (this was Cobain's last attempt at this song, before giving It to his wife Courtney Love and her band Hole who recorded their own version of It with new Lyrics, which was released on the 1993 Single of "Beautiful Son" which is apparently about Kurt and the Single cover was a Picture of Kurt as a child. Hole also used "Screen" with different lyrics and named it "I'm so High" It was also recorded in October of 1993 during the Live Through This Studio Sessions and was used on "Live Through This" Album as an Intro to the Young Marble Giants cover "Credit In the Straight World". But the Stella Acoustic Kurt Bought for $29.00 + $2.23 sales tax ($31.23) from Edgewater Pawn Shop and Sheridan Jewelry, Edgewater, CO on October 12, 1989 which was before Nirvana's show at Penny Lane Coffeehouse, Boulder, CO. It was used on "Polly" and "Lithium" from Smart Studios April 2-6, 1990. "Sliver", "Verse Chorus Verse", "Where Did You Sleep Last Night" Cobain's Residence, Olympia, WA Summer 1990. "Opinion", "Lithium", "Dumb", "Been A Son" KAOS Community Radio, Boy Meets Girl show, The Evergreen State College, Olympia, WA on September 25, 1990. "Pennyroyal Tea" (w/ Dave) Cobain's Residence, Olympia, WA Winter 1990. "Something In The Way" Sound City Studios, Van Nuys, CA May 2-28, 1991. "Rape Me" Oakwood Apartments, Los Angeles, CA May 1991. "All Apologies" Cobain's Residence, Olympia, WA 1991-1992. "Unknown/tuning/Screen/Old Age", "Lowrider" Cobain's Residence, TBC, Spring 1991 - Fall 1992. "Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle" Cobain's Residence, Los Angeles, CA 1992. "Serve The Servants", "Very Ape" Cobain's Residence, TBC, Fall/Winter 1992. "Pennyroyal Tea" Cobain's Residence, Seattle, WA Fall 1992 - Early 1993. "And I Love Her" Cobain's Residence, TBC, 1992 - 1993. Were all Recorded with the Stella Harmony 12-String Acoustic which had 5 Nylon Strings that had never been changed a bridge that was Duct Tape down, and Tuners that Kurt had to use Pilers to Tune... (But in 1992, Kurt's Guitar Tech Earnie Bailey added new Tuners on the Stella) Which is way this recording Kurt is tuning quicker...
Sounds Like Kurt was loaded as fuck lol but i fucking LOVE it. And after listening to all of it i realized Kurt was playing a part and trying to sound old lol
Years ago, back in high school, I was a Metallica fan. The MTV Unpluggged came out. I wondered how Metallica would sound if they appeared on that show. So, I dusted off my grandma's acoustic guitar (literally, she gave it to me when I was 13) and started playing Metallica. It really made me question if metal was even music at all. (OMG, my mom was right, it's just noise.) After that revelation, I was no longer a metalhead. This here, just a guitar and a guy singing, that's real music, real emotion, real art.
That other guy is kind of right but listen to me. Easy way to learn this is to just look up Patrickteaches the world old age guitar lesson on RUclips. Super simple easy and accurate
Some of these lyrics are way off, but this is definitely the best version of Old Age, by far! My favorite anyway. I personally like the entire thing though, with the intro and outro with: “the MÚSICA” and 🎶take a little trip with me…”🎶but great none the less, aside from the lyrics being off. Still enjoyable.🙏🏻🙌🏻

@nikivett im very grateful that you uploaded this, thank you 🙏🏻
I can’t stop listening to this song it’s so good 😊
Can someone type out all of the lyrics so i can copy and paste them onto my phone to save them this is my favourite version of this song
And i am afraid
There's a fire, our house is gone
And i refrain
Are you God? Are you God?
You little boy
And now your fingers meet the floor
And now, like a baby, he ignores
I am one to obey me
Free spin flowers beneath your ray
Your silent bit
And i would stay
You see in front of me a way
And now i know
Hey...
Keep it down to the one more species
One more hour and i'll face my service
Someday i'm gonna run my way to something
It's not hard to believe my service
Come inside of her inner circles
Some days i walk behind a way
It's over
She seems to read minds
And i'm deaf, dumb and blind
Weigh the frame that i use
She's the same
Old age*3
Some are gone and some are wanting
Some were kind and i feigned my service
Someday i won't find my way
it's over...
It's not fair
He believes my servants
One more hour and awake my servants
Someday i will allow my way to something
She seems to read minds
And i'm dead, dumb and blind
Face to face in the mirror
We survived
Old age*4
Such a fantasy
You're all free
Come on higher way
I'm begging, see?
One more hour and i'll face my service
Come on down to relieve my servants
Someday i will have found my way to nothing
Second there, here to feign my service
One more howl and i won't be serviced
Someday i will have found my way to something
She seems to read minds
And i'm dead, dumb and blind
Weigh the fame that i use
Jesus saves
Old age*2
Jesus saves
Old age*3
That's what i heard, it can be difficult to understand
Amazing lyrics, amazing voice
Some day I find my way it's over

God I love this song
1:16 honestly it would be beautiful if the lyric old age came after "and now i know"
Love this version of the song it's has a lot better quality and I can understand the song
This song really reaches inside me
Oh my god. The song.... And your video is great i think.
Glad I found this song.
In my nightmares I chronicled in a journal that same sentiment. Time travel, lives changed for the better.
That lift in the Bridge!!!
Superb 😘👌
I’m reminded of the beginning part of Credit In The Straight World by Hole. “And I will awake, your highness I’m so high I cannot walk.”
That verse/part is also in the beginning of their version of old age. Kurt gave Courtney this song, so she remade it. It's actually not too bad.
I love this song
This has an old Appalachian feel to it. Just throw in a little thump.
Cool I've never Heard that intro for this on other copies 👍
Love this
Same-
"Are you god?
Are you god?
You little boy"
I always loved that piece of Lyric
Strangely haunting
Words cannot describe this
I love this song 😍😍
Kurt cobain is god honestly he is better than anybody so called "musicians" today
Quincy Maxwell YES
I listen to Adam Gontire, he covered "My Girl" by this band. I think he's pretty cool.
Old age ... this so sad
Someday I'm gonna run my way to something...
his voice is angelic. you cant replicate it. not authenticity more than pure voice control
is it just me or are the demo's, live versions and lost tapes better than their actual songs?
No I agree 100%
The beginning is "Intro"/Tuning/Screen/Old Age/Lowrider recorded In 1992 and Kurts using his Stella Harmony 12-String Acoustic (which only had 5 Nylon Strings which he never changed) this Acoustic was Used on "Polly" and "Lithium" from the April 2-6, 1990 Smart Studios, Madison, WI sessions
("Polly" from the Smart Sessions from April '90 is the same one on the Nevermind album, they just added Dave's back up harmony vocals to the track then added it to the Nevermind Album) which Nirvana had done with Bleach ("Floyd The Barber", Paper Cuts" and "Downer" were recorded on January 23, 1988 with Dale Crover on Drums), ("Love Buzz" and "Big Cheese" was recorded In June 1988, and the rest of the songs from Bleach were recorded December 24 & 29-31, 1988 and January 14 & 24, 1989) so the Bleach Album is not a one session album they took songs from different Sessions and put them together for one Album.
"Rape Me" Oakwood Apartments, Los Angeles, CA
May 1991.
"All Apologies" Cobain's Residence, Olympia, WA 1991-1992.
"Unknown/tuning/Screen/Old Age", "Lowrider" Cobain's Residence, TBC,
Spring 1991 - Fall 1992.
"Frances Farmer Will Have Her Revenge On Seattle" Cobain's Residence, Los Angeles, CA 1992.
"Serve The Servants", "Very Ape" Cobain's Residence, TBC, Fall/Winter 1992.
"Pennyroyal Tea" Cobain's Residence, Seattle, WA
Fall 1992 - Early 1993.
Monumental. R. I. P Kurt 🙏🏻🦋🎸🖤🥀🥀
i have a weird obsession with "are you god, are you god you little boy"
I thought I was the only one
It is so relieving it's not just me omg it's an addiction
@@daniellelindsay2957 I can’t stop saying it or thinking about
"It's such a fantasy you're all free"
Sounds Like Kurt was loaded as fuck lol but i fucking LOVE it. And after listening to all of it i realized Kurt was playing a part and trying to sound old lol
I love this one so much
Years ago, back in high school, I was a Metallica fan.
This song is great... She seems to read minds.
"But if I find a way it will be over..."
Does anyone have tabs for this version? I would be very happy. I'm making a cover album and I plan on covering this song
i’m pretty sure it’s just E to C all the way through, except the chorus, then it’s E to A.
That other guy is kind of right but listen to me. Easy way to learn this is to just look up Patrickteaches the world old age guitar lesson on RUclips. Super simple easy and accurate
Trapped In a snow storm electric has been out a week this seems appropriate
Some of these lyrics are way off, but this is definitely the best version of Old Age, by far! My favorite anyway. I personally like the entire thing though, with the intro and outro with: “the MÚSICA” and 🎶take a little trip with me…”🎶but great none the less, aside from the lyrics being off. Still enjoyable.🙏🏻🙌🏻
