- We have less than a week to get my 1967 Chevy C10 running and driving so that we can cruise it to MRC Fabrication in Kernersville, North Carolina. We are going to drive it there on Sunday March 7th to go check out the progress on my 1961 Cadillac Coupe DeVill. You guys are welcome to meet us there if you want. The address is 616 Indeneer Drive, Kernersville, NC 27284.
We are going to upload several videos to the channel this week and those videos have been made possible by the good folks at Wire Care. Wire Care distributes everything you need to wire and plumb your hot rod, muscle car, truck, drift car or tricycle and we are using everything from battery cable to heat shielding products during the thrash to finish my C10. New intro is pretty slick! Do whatever you gotta do to add Editor Chris to the team permanently
Finn's neighbors:
"Oh dear god now what!" 🤣
I think they might say "atleast it's only paint, not a hotrod starting at 2am"
It’s funny, his neighbor seems down with it all lol
I’m pretty sure his brother is his neighbour.
@@joelclancy3776 I think his brother is close, but not that house. That guy has been there since he moved in. Remember, he had that corvette buried in his garage. He has been in a couple videos, and helped surprise Finn’s wife with the ‘burban.
"Well, at least it's not a blown big block getting tested I guess...." :)
after 10+ years of being unfinished, your going to finish the truck in 5 days to drive to north carolina...
because roadkill
prob sell it after a few months as well.
Then buy it back again 10 years later
stay the hell out of N.C.
LOL
LOL, I thought they were kidding when they said they are going to rattle can it.
We all thought you were going to paint the whole truck. 😂
"hole truck"
Finnegan - I just want to say thank you, about 6 years ago I took on a fairly large project vehicle after my grandpa passed, I rebuilt the drivetrain from the ground up, refinished the engine bay.. learned a lot despite being a car guy well before that. Since then I'm been getting projects and just tinkering and like to think of myself as someone that knows a pretty decent bit about vehicles, but I learn something new in every single one of your videos. I appreciate that and I appreciate your down to earth approach with sharing knowledge and processes. It helps a lot of us that do enjoy cars, but maybe have not had as much experience or have not been exposed to as many projects as someone such as yourself. So thank you!
Thanks for watching! I appreciate it.
I had an idea like this 20 years ago but the wind in Okla will humble you quickly.
That's a lot of work and expense just to rattle can paint the little you did. I figured with the network of dudes you know , someone would come spray your stuff with decent paint in a pro way.
Waste of time priming with rattle can primer cos it has no activator so will sink/sweat. Should have used a good 2pack primer.
really needed those paint can attachments that give you a plastic handle to squeeze to spray
After painting endlessly on my project, my finger was numb for almost a month afterwards. Can confirm those attachments are a lifesaver
For those considering building a paint booth like this in your garage by hanging up plastic, it works great - ONCE. If you use the same plastic again, it will drop flecks of dried paint onto your new paint job if the plastic flexes even a little. You have to use all new plastic every time you want to spray color. It is generally OK to use the same plastic if you are spraying primer because it is still in a phase that it is easy to fix, but any time you are spraying color or clear you need to use new plastic to avoid getting garbage on your new paint job.
Have drop cloths always been expensive? I bought some months ago and felt it cost altogether too much!
Ive done this before i recommend wetting the floor to help make over spray stick to the floor rathing than floati g back on to the project extremely huge fan from years ago love all show!!!!
For everybody who wants to do try using a makeshift paint booth like this: You want OVERpressure in the paintbooth to avoid dirt and dust beeing sucked into the booth. So it may be better to install a box fan that sucks the air out plus a bigger one (or two) to blow fresh air from the outside into the booth. Place the blowers opposite to the sucking fan. Those need filters too of course plus they should be installed some what higher off the ground. Use a table outside the booth to support them.
This is of course not overly critical if you are just priming with rattle cans or the like, but if we are talking of painting the car e.g. with a paint gun:
Do it! It's only an additional fan or two.
Basically the walls of the paint booth always need to bulge out.
Just a suggestion guys but you should turn the fan around so there is positive pressure in the booth. Keeps dust from getting in throught the gaps.
Came here for this same comment.
Spray booths dont work like that you end up with over spray on everyting leaving a bad finish it needs to be negative pressure so all that is pulled down to the exhaust even with setup the amount of dust would have been tiny compared to the problems a postive pressure setup would have caused
I’ve painted many trucks motorcycles and cars in my driveway under my carport and they turned out good.
It sucks the way the wind suddenly picks up as soon as you try to hang some poly sheeting (or similar) but I'm relieved to see it actually happen to someone else. I always thought I was cursed and it only ever happened to me (every single bloody time!!)
Every time I unroll an airless hose, or air hose for my conventional gun, the wind blows. I was a pro building painter for 17+ years.
My Grandpa taught me this same thing, dirt floor under awning and plastic wrapped around, then just wet the floor down lightly and go to town! Nice job can't wait to see the rest!
You've got the compressor, just go buy a detail gun and use proper primer
I’ve done a lot of custom paint jobs and about 90 percent have been In a driveway or small garage. Painted everyday in a 20x18 garage and used box fans and filters. Works great. Long as the epa leaves you alone it’s all good. Always can buff out any knibs or dust
Sounds like what I did in my dad's garage when painting my new jeep frame after getting it hot dipped. we covered the door and raised it to the height of a row of box fans and a window opposite the door open with plastic lined under and up the sides hanging off the garage door rails. Worked great.
I've been following this build for ever!!! Love it Mike!!
So glad you did this, I have seen post photos of it before and was planning to do something similar for my upcoming paint job on my roadster pickup.
Did a similar thing inside the shop with rope ran wall to wall and painter plastic for floor wall and ceiling. Used cheapy .99cent filters and the 14.99 box fan from Wal-Mart. Worked as well as yours but was inside and temp controlled.
Awesome job guys!
This is why i like you.... You spend 10 years working on a truck then get a date set for something cool so you finish it in 5 days when we all know it had a solid year left of work.. I am the same person, i have sat around for 6 months with "gotta build my 4 link" on my mind. now that summer is a month away, ima have it done in a week.
I did mine there during lockdown week! Welded up some rust and then coated all the front end with bitumen based paint before painting the bonnet and front quarters!
Love the new intro and the bloopers are great keep it up loving it and now I need to go build a paint booth....
I'm excited for you to finally drive the c10. Been watching for years waiting to see the outcome.
Love it!!! Although a cheap harbor spray gun and a quart of epoxy primer from the local painter supply would have been even more win! (not a big fan of that rustoleum oil based stuff)
I was thinking the same. Why the rattle cans?
Right I thought the same thing.
I had the exact same thought
SEM paint is much better rust oleum seems to have issues most times I have used it
@@robholmes2129
Its definitely better, if you use etch wipes it’s almost good, but not quite. I have a feeling this truck will be stripped and painted properly sometime down the road.
I've been waiting a long dam time for that truck to run and drive ! I can't wait !!!😀
This is how I turn my garage into a paint booth. I’ve painted our kitchen cabinets that I built and multiple different projects from car parts to all the woodworking projects I’ve built.
Thank you for adding the out takes. It just shows how real and down to earth you are 😎🙈👍
My 76 C10 is soaking up room in my shop, waiting for me to do the metal work, finish the 6.0 install, notch the frame a little bit, change the leafs, flip the axle and make it a driver again. I could do it in five days.. but I am old and its cold out there in the shop, part of the problem with living in the north. Yes I own my shop now... and is glorious.
After the second wife got the second house and garage in the second divorce, I bought some land full of trees in the middle of nowhere for dirt cheap. Then I cleared some of the trees and used them as the poles to hold the roof trusses up, poured some concrete and built a 32x48x12 shop for less than $18k.. and its overbuilt with 8" to 14" diameter logs holding the roof up. Sheeted with 5/8 OSB and then roofing steel, some foam board insulation on the bottom of the trusses, and boom I had a place to work on my junk. Started in July put the sliding door up the second week of November. Thats a lot of work for one guy who hired three guys to help with the slab, and two guys to help with the roof, but did everything else.
Then I put three shipping containers together and lived in that for 5 years. Priorities.. Two years ago I reconfigured the containers from a 460sqft room to a 1050 sqft two story with a loft slightly bigger room on a concrete pillar foundation sitting on bedrock.
I can paint my cars and truck easily, along with doing everything else I need to do while rebuilding them, and I splurged on a lift for the shop. Perhaps this year I can get running water in the house for the first time since 2013. Priorities.. and I am off to the gym to take a shower, do some laundry and buy more wood pellets to heat this place. I rattle can painted my 70 GTO in the parking lot of my apartment building in Charleston SC when I was stationed down there in the early 2000s.
Great idea on a paint book. I wasn't sure, but WOW it worked out great.!!!
Awesome work guys...
Loving the outtakes, never lose those
Badass Mike! I’ve been thinking of paint my car at home. You just inspired me to do so.
Gonna be hopefully putting my '60 GMC cab in epoxy this summer so this video really helps. Thanks, Finn!
looking good... progress makes life better
I had a similar setup in my garage. I used dollar store vinyl drape sheets with a box fan and a filter. Filter got clogged within 5 minutes of me starting to spray so I ditched it. Ended up creating a mini hole in the ozone above my house but it worked. It was nice being able to spray clear and having the ability to see without a cloud of paint dust.
I'll have to see it to believe it ! But I think your team will pull this off. Mike and Dave's excellent adventure.
More outtakes! Awesome progress!
Loving your videos right now! Great channel! Great guys! Be well.
Another option is to get one of those cheap carports from Harbor Freight. Just needs a light because it's a darker tarp, but I've had good luck using one of those.
That was a great idea with the tape, Dave! That worked awesome!
Love the outtakes. Looks awesome!
I've tried the washables, but I like the 20x20" Ace Hardware "Basic" pleated furnace filters for my makeshift air scrubbers/ paint booths 😉 they flow great, filter great, are pretty cheap, and disposable for quick change outs 👍
About time this truck gets some love. I’ve been waiting like 10 years for this to get its shot and finally get finished 😂
You Guy's ROCK. Waiting for better weather to do a Suspension/Resto/Rebuild on my brothers car. Think I shall copy this just on a smaller scale. Rattle Can Party works.
This video coming in clutch. Just started getting warm in Michigan and I'm about to attempt to paint my 95 S10 come spring but no garage.
Chase, see my comment before trying this at home... lol...
@@dannywilsher4165 Ok so what your saying is a fan sucking air in with a filter of the makeshift booth so it traps the dirt/dust your bring in. Then one on the other end or side/sides with a filter collecting all the stuff you are spraying . Am I on the right track with that or way off?
We made one out of PVC pipe and some plastic, it's not that hard to do and it's pretty handy.
A
Don't glue many of the pipe fittings , that way you can take it apart when it's not being used.
@@chasejones3456 Yes sir, totally correct. If the only air entering the booth is filtered, and you have positive air pressure in the booth, no contamination can enter the booth and destroy your paint job. And you have to have somewhere for the air to exit and with a filter on the exit, it will trap most of the paint and fumes before they get back into the atmosphere. I have built several booths with this system and it is also the way professional booths are built. Positive pressure because negative sucks!!! lol...
Mike I Painted My Box Trucks Outside Other Than A Few Ants It Came Out Good. LOL
Damn, ask and I receive. Appreciate the all of the c10 videos.
Very smart paint booth idea
Pretty slick spray booth setup. Looks like it worked out well for you
Yup, more and more tempted to try this for the Thunderbird basic spray job
Hello Mike and David great start to the truck build 👍
The structure of the popup looks to work really well for hanging parts... neato
About 10 years ago we did almost the same exact thing in my back yard but we used 2 car fans from pullapart for the vent it turned out pretty good lol !
Me and my dad used to built pop up paint booths like this when i was a kid lol got good at it 🤣
Looks like it works pretty good!
I did asbestos removal and that booth really was impressive! Great job!
looks great love the out takes
Great job 👏
Good job guys, very creative!
Loving the new title card 👍🤘
To paint a car with no money I'd buy a $20 electric paint sprayer for home interior walls and a $80 can of Walmart auto paint then cut and buff the swirls and orange peel out once the paint has dried
Lol. Roll it on, wet on wet bahahaha
Always great work! Truck is comin out great man
I ended up buying one of the garage tents from harbor freight to do this. I have also seen the large white tents (with walls!) often used for weddings and such on sale for pretty reasonable prices.
I did this and painted my daughters car. I wet the floor, use super high gloss enamel from Dulux Canadian paint supplier and airless sprayer. It looks amazing. So no rattle cans and its 1998 Vw beetle.
Y'all are crazy love it greatest paint booth ever
Good to see it coming together man
Love the bloopers at the end too!! Awesome content!
Like the look of the new intro, just need the engine rev audio back. That sound has always meant get ready for Finnegan to me!!😎🏁
And the head banging music too
I like the new intro. And the temporary paint booth nice 👍
Did practically the same thing 25 years ago in my garage, except with only clear plastic and for less than $10, to paint my friends S10. It came out really well
Love the outtakes
Great idea man! I couldn't help but think during the ending interview that, if you were just going to paint for the day, you could hang all the plastic in your garage (make it semi permanent to where you could just roll up the plastic and tuck it into your floor joist until you're ready to paint again) and put the outlet fan and filter in place of your garage door. Just an idea. Really excited to see the C10 come together!
NICE, keep them videos coming guys
I can see this working out fantastically in a typical Oklahoma day!
Nice win guys..I have fone the same to paint motorcycle bodywork..base coat, clearcoat complete with cheap ass harbor freight paint gun comes out mint everytime.
When I did this, I used two industrial fans used for drying out the interior of Homes after a Flood, one in each corner of the back wall with a AC filter taped in place. In the upper corners of the front, entry wall, I had two regular box fans with again, AC filters duct taped in place.
Paint booths are a positive pressure environment, not negative like you have it set up.
I often thought about doing the same to shape and glass surfboards!
Lovin' the outtakes! You guys have the life! :)
Great job guys 👍👍🇨🇱
Love the fact you finishing up the truck. Hate the rush. Please don't cut any corners
“The Martian” movie came to mind with the plastic walls, waiting for the wind to blow it down. Great idea guys. Can’t wait to see it on the road in 5 days.
New intro, I dig it.
6 meter x 3 meter wedding marquees work fantastic as a spray booth
Great content thanks for sharing
I like the new “Finnegan’s Garage” banner in the video!! Great DIY paint booth too!!!
Turn the fan around so that you're blowing filtered air into the booth, you don't want to bring unfiltered air in. Did my truck in the carport once, came out good.
I like the new intro to the channel. Awesome work guys.
that's what i call enthusiast, nice job!
It just gets better and better
A nice tip is to do the first coat one way and do the second one the other way (say first horizontal then vertical) this helps to avoid the tiger stripping efect
Your best one yet.
So professional non-professional keep up the good work you guys
Really nice intro, and episode!
I remember seeing the post on Instagram, you drop these videos fast 👍🏼
Sketchy as frig , love it.
Great setup!
Can't wait to see this C10 finished and running on its own power.🖒
The c10 will love this
