Man jet boat talk is awesome. Bought my first jet when I was 17, it was a cheetah I think, deep V 18 foot, 455 Olds, was cool as all get out. My dad was working on a 1974 Wreidt with a 455 olds as well. Little known fact, Michigan used to have a ton of bad ass jet boats. Bay City held the River Roar boat race for years.

I have a 1965 18' Rayson Craft V-drive, flat bottom with a Pontiac 400. I got it in 1972 with a 389 Pontiac with Trips and changed the motor to the GTO 400, put on a Holley 850 double pumper and I had the motor redone with the good parts in it. I did some local racing in Oakmont, Pa. and Pittsburgh, Pa. at the 3 Rivers Regatta. Took one first place and one second place. I sold it in 1982. I also put on a bigger oil pan. I Love that look of yours with the motor and the open headers. That Boat should fly.

I live up the Chesapeake Bay. Our water is salt water but very weak and brackish this far up. I noticed that Mike is just running a garden hose for cooling. This means that all the water the block sees will be quite cool. Therefore the engine may never come up to temperature. This method is called raw water cooling. We usually run fresh water cooling with a closed circuit radiator like on a car with thermostat, antifreeze, and all. The radiator is really a liquid to liquid heat exchanger which is quite efficient and quite small. The raw water outflow is mixed in with the exhaust.

Same here, I built my own 4x8 CNC Plasma table and have cut 3/4" plate with it. The hypertherm 65 will pierce 5/8. For brackets and many other projects it is much easier to draw parts in cad and modify as needed. It is also much faster to edit and recut than to start over by hand when a part isn't quite the right size.

After hearing the story about your folks buying the jet boat it makes sense now. My father drag boat raced back in the early 70's . When I was born in 75' the 1968 Howard flat bottom got put away till 1985.. I can remember as a kid going to get Buttercup. All the gas had turned to varnish. He worked on it and got it ready and off to the river we went. So we are in the water Cruising along and a wall of water came blowing by. You know what that was...yelling at the top of his lungs at me..That's a dam jet..That's when something came out of him and he said hold on. He mashed it dropped the plate and off like a skipping rock we went. He called it clinching some seat cover. When he pulled next to the guy he laid right next to them probably doing somewhere in the 80's...then he puts his arm on me so I didn't flyout..that when he put big tough in it and bye bye..on the way home he told me them dam jets always would get off the line but old buttercup could pass them on the big end. I'm happy you guys have this boat to play with. I think one of your best yet. 👍 Best of luck

i feel like you could make a little sliding sheet of metal that has matching holes cut in them to put underneath the welding table, that way when you slide the holes out of alignment you can stop stuff from falling through. and if you want the mounting holes back you can just align the metal sheet holes with the welding table holes. kind of the same concept as a slide valve

The first one I bought I thought they had sent me the wrong thing until a second one from a different supplier came in the same. So unless you look at the reluctor wheel on that engine or run the part number on the sensor there's o outward appearance guarantee.

One extra advantage is that you can add an extra scavenge pump for the mid/top of the motor. Two out of my three road cars are dry sump (1977 Porsche 911 RSR Group B and Morgan Three Wheeler - S&S 133 X-Wedge).

Have you considered adding an oil cooler, to add to the capacity, and cool the oil?

An anti cavitation tank would probably be the way to go

what people seem to not know is that you need a pressure tank to PRIME LS engines spinning motor over till you get oil pressure is what kills bearings on fresh builds and leads to low oil pressure.

Headed to pick up a boat 20 minutes north of Fresno next week. Bringing it all the way back to GA to rip up the North GA lakes myself.

I was wondering if you could install oil gallery restrictors to limit top end oil flow allowing long high rpm operation. We used them for years in sbc oval track 7qt.motors at 7800 rpm.Is this capable of being done in LS boat motors?

First off... love the show! Secondly... your engine hoist... the black bar is on upside down... that chain should be hanging down the hole that's in the top. Only minor but it could damage the black bar or worse snap the chain from side loading.

I remember once upon a time what feels like many ages ago we used to see roadkill once a month when events were current in the world and not half a year later

Yup it’s dumb because I’m sure they could make quite a bit of money just posting them on RUclips with ads and doing giveaways like every other automotive youtuber.

Twin turbo an LS3 without gapping the rings? No wonder it blew up. Canceling my MT subscription, I’ve seen enough.

Didn’t the flex plate not fit in the roadkill episode until you flipped it the other way? Could be missing some information but that’s what I recall. Love seeing this boat again!

The block has the displacement cast into it. Look on the lower front I think passenger side and it will have 5.7, 6.0, or 6.2 cast into it, but being it has the Gen III style c sensor, it almost has to be an early LS2. I think 05 only, or maybe '05 and early '06.

@@FinnegansGarage Oh I know, but you were saying you weren't sure if it was a LS3 or LS2 or what. You can tell which it is by looking at the block. It has the displacement cast into the block, so it'll tell you if it's a 6.0 or 6.2L, but because it has a cam sensor at the back in the Gen III location, that means it pretty much has to be a early Gen IV from a 05 (and I think a select few 06s got them) GTO or Vette. I can say for certain it's not a 6.2L LS3/L92/L94/L99.

    Hello Mike!
Weird question but I'm starting to build my shop (20'by 40 with 10'by 10' wing) in 2022. What is the headroom of your shop, floor to underside of floor joist? I'm planning open span not like yours with the central beam and posts that at times you've probably bumped into occasionally.
    Your info is appreciated.
