After at least 10 years of watching your channel I went for my introductory flight the other day and I have signed myself up for lessons. I would have done it earlier but I had budget constraints. Thank you for the motivation and inspiration Josh!

Good decision making Josh not to be pressured to hurry through before takeoff checklist and also Not choose the closer end of runway to accept slight tailwind departure. That’s what professional pilots do.

The runway choice at the beginning of the video is a good lesson that if you feel iffy at all, choose the safer less convenient option. Risk avoidance (completely taking the risk off the table) is better than risk mitigation when possible.

    • @marsgal42
      @marsgal42 6 дней назад +1

Runway 05 is uphill and you climb out over the city. Runway 23 is downhill and you climb out over the lake. The prevailing winds usually favour 23.

Hi, Im Sean Elison. Back in 1998 i was a whipping 28 yrs old and just learning to fly, I had a friend that owned a cessna 150, very brown with a canery yellow tail lol. I learned in Bethel Alaska, all my friends were pilots so i never had a shortage of knowlage at my disposal. My instructor was same age as me and we loved flying together. I also worked as ground crew at a small Alaskan bush airline, we did mail, groceries and ppl. I got to pretty much go out with any of the pilots, my favorite pilot was a guy named robert, well we had two roberts so 1 was robert the other bob. Robert had several thousands of hours as he was getting close to retirement he flew our islander, wat a plane. Robert has flown all over the usa and some other countries in his carrer, his knowlage was worth every hour of listening and he and all of our pilots helped me in every aspect of learning to fly and in my ground schooling. Unfortunately one day at work i got severely injured, and was unable to work anymore. Well needless to say I was unable to fimish my flight training, which really is sad i was going for my commercial license to be a bush pilot. Not only did i have the pilots at my job as friends and teachers, but most of the pilots and even the tower crew at bethel airport were all very helpful and supportive. My best friend the 172 pilot at my job, his name is Stewart hes from AZ. as was Bob, and bob had a flight school in Prescott. dont know what it was called. well its now 2025 and i was never able to achieve my dream, something i had promised my late grandpa i would do, but it is ok, i can still kinda fly thanks to Xplane and Microsoft flight simulator, both are amazing simulators. I will be trying to build a home cockpit, not with motion but just a moch up of a twin enginf as I love to fly the King Air and The Beech 1900D my favorite planes, but the C150 as funny looking as it was will always hold a special place in my heart. I thank you and your wife i assume shes your wife lol, sorry if im wrong, but thank you for this video I just found your channel and I subscribed. You let me go on a journey that i can only imagine was super epic. thank you and everyone involed. Sean Elison❣❣🤘🤘🤘

I met you and Chelsea for the first time during your meet-and-greet session at AirVenture 2024. And I asked you the question: “I’m a loyal 172 pilot, and it’s great to see experienced aviation folks like you two choose to fly what everyone else’s flying. It makes me and many others feel well represented & connected to your aviation stories. But do you have anything higher performance planned in the future?”
Josh told me: “We are not quite ready to share that yet, but stay tuned, it’s coming.”
Six months later, I finally got to see what you had planned. Congratulations! And it’s very comforting to hear that 80991 and 3056X are here to stay (I specifically paid visits to them during AirVenture 2024!). Looking forward to your next and many more great videos!

Wow, that clip of you flying a tomahawk brought back some powerful memories. I remember that video and it holds a special place in my heart because it was during that time I was learning to fly the very same type of aircraft while working toward my private pilot’s license.
Fast forward nine years, and I’m now a commercial pilot flying a Boeing 737 around Europe. Your videos were a tremendous source of inspiration and motivation throughout my training. During challenging moments, I often thought back to your passion and dedication, which helped fuel my determination to keep pushing forward.

Nice, I hope you have fun with the build and the finished TSI is everything you hope for and more. I've been wrestling with the same decision and finally pulled the trigger and ordered high wing kits this past Friday, mostly for the easier ingress/egress (I'm significantly older than you, routinely take my 75 lb dog with me, and have family & friend passengers who are significantly older than me) but also for the better views of the beautiful landscapes below me. Both seem to be great aircraft, and the increased speed, larger body of builder knowledge, and lower price point of the TSI are all attractive.

Awesome to and from videos, Epic flight, thanks for posting.
I learned to fly in a brand new pair of Piper Tomahawks (1982's) and have always preferred low wings. I feel almost a little claustrophobic not seeing the sky out the side windows. Needless to say I think you made the right choice with the TSI, it really looks like an awesome aircraft. Currently flying a Van's RV-12 with a Rotax 912iS. While not as fast as the TSI it perfectly fits my mission going into retirement as it is very economical and has similar speed to my last plane, an Archer II. Having built this RV-12, I am really interested in and looking forward to the upcoming build videos.
Also, I am so happy you found Chels the two of you make for a great team in aviation, YouTubing, and Life, Enjoy!

Great video guys! I really did enjoy this one and I am so glad that you have finally made a decision on building a Sling! Thats a sexy AF plane. I fly in a friend's RV occasionally, and on a long trip i think that HUGE center console and the stick would be rather constricting. On long trips in my Piper, and especially if im solo, i like to swing my legs over to the pax side. Being able to change leg position frequently is really nice!

I understand that there is an allure to the low wing, for me however, there is an overpowering factor. That is that the high wing puts a large part of the plane in the shade. That moderating of cockpit temp, IR exposure of the seats and dash, etc. is very important. Then there is the wait in line sweltering all the while in the southern heat....For me, it's no doubt, the high wing.

I owned a Diamond DA40 and did my Instrument and Commercial ratings in it. I absolutely loved that plane... fantastic handling, good speed and fuel economy, but not as much load capacity as I would have liked. My only issue that I'd point out is that anytime getting in or out of the plane with precipitation would result in rain falling into the cockpit and getting the seats, controls and - and if it were windy - possibly the very expensive electronics wet. Also, with the low wing, it could get pretty hot in the cockpit when on the ground... which mitigated with altitude gained after takeoff.

I’m glad you went with the TSI. Variety is the spice of life, and now you have a HW 172, and a higher performance LW Sling!!!

Congrats on the TSI guys, That would handle Amazing if its anything like the Bristell NG5 that I learned to fly which is also a low wing with Rotax Engine, Love your Aeronautical decision making skills with that take off with Potential Tail Wind, great example of a Proficient Pilot.

I actually love that you see the low wing in your videos. It adds character and a real aviator perspective that you don't get with the high wing.... I haven't heard the verdict yet, but I typed this while watching your video. I hope you went with the TSi!

Good choice. As much as I like my M20K, I've always wanted to own something I built. The Sling TSI has a beautiful, slick design. One of these days…
