You said if we could imagine Metallica without James Hatfield. I will ask you:
    - Could you imagine Iron Maiden without Paul Di Anno?
    - Could you imagine AC/DC without Bon Scott?
    - Could you imagine Exodus without Paul Balloff or Steve Souza?
But we have witnessed those. And it was amazing!
In my humble opinion don't condemn a move before we get to see it. Let's see!
As for the past, it will always be there. Let's see what the future has to bring

@@AltarsofMetal its case is different like I said. But some musicians are the trademark of their band. Whether they are the main composers or “the face, or star if you want to call it” of the band and we have connected their band to their name. Of course lineup changes are part of the game, but personally I get attached to musicians and what they offer on a band. That’s why it’s hard for me to accept Queensryche as it is now, with only two original members and without their “face” and frontman Geoff Tate, or their main composer DeGarmo. That’s why to me the Pantera reunion is also pointless. Time will tell and if they produce new music and it is good, I will have no problem to openly admit it. But for now I am skeptic.

Warrel was hands down one of the best vocalists in metal. No, no one can replace the guy. One has to look at this from the perspective of the surviving members. It’s also their legacy and dream as well. If you lose a family member does your family stop being a family? No. I support them fully and if there’s anyone on the planet that can carry Warrel’s dream on, it’s Jeff, Van, Jim, and those closest to him. Everyone that knew him was devastated by his passing. Maybe some understanding and forgiveness is due for Warrel’s sake. My heart goes out to the Sanctuary camp too. I was also a huge fan of Sean.

    No Dane - no Nevermore.
    They needs another name.
Maybe Nevermore A.D, or Loomis's Nevermore...

@@МихаилБоровых-о1п Yes 👍. Something like that. Name the band differently. Of course than you will have to rebuild to reach your former status, while keeping the name will make it easier. But it can also make the fall longer…

So hard to say. Warrell not only had a very distinct and iconic vocal, but also a presence. That's a tough combo to replace. We won't know until we know. It could be an AC/DC or Queensryche situation where they find lightning in a bottle a second time, or it could go the way of Iron Maiden who foolishly tried to replace a powerhouse vocalist with a weaker facsimile. Still yet, it could go in the Motley Crue or Judas Priest direction where they find an admittedly talented singer and put out a great release but the fans just won't have it regardless. Time will tell...

Its case is different of course. There are times when a change of personnel is necessary. Other times it just seems a bit disrespectful. Of course all these bands are “businesses” so being sentimental about it won’t change much.

@ADDICTEDTOLISTS Yeah, that's very true. When a guy dies it puts a band at a crossroads. The big questions become threefold I think: 1) Do we want to continue as this entity? 2) Can/Should we continue as this entity? As in do the fans want us to? And 3) Do we have the SONGS to be worth continuing anyway? The best comparables for Nevermore's situation are obviously AC/DC and Alice In Chains. It worked for AC/DC I think because they were still a fairly young band when Bon Scott died. There was still a hunger and a momentum there to be satiated, a fan base that wanted them, and their creative muse hadn't even begun to peak. Really all they needed was to find a guy who could deliver the goods. When they got their hands on Brian Johnson all the puzzle pieces fell in place and they put out not only the most successful album of their career, but arguably in the Top 5 of Rock, period. AiC were more complicated. They had other problems internally besides Laynes death to contend with including - from my understanding at the time - substance issues, their own relationships with each other, an increasingly less receptive audience/industry environment, and frankly, whether they even had the desire or will to bother. All of that, not to mention the conundrum of how to go on in a manner that was respectful to Layne's legacy conspired to make their comeback a longer, and much more drawn out process. Even now too, it's a toss-up in terms of fan reception how successful they've been. Hell...I can't even tell you the new guy's name off the top of my head and they've been recording for over a decade now. Some fans love the new material. Many however have abandoned them out of sheer disinterest. Either way, they went from being a mainstream, Top 20 powerhouse to a much smaller, if still well respected act.
Nevermore obviously never hit the proverbial 'big time' with mainstream audiences- although in Metal circles they most certainly did. Within those echelons I think their situation runs the risk of going more in the AiC direction. If they find someone really good they'll still have a long road ahead of them in terms of gaining fan acceptance and they'll basically have to come out of the gates with the album of their career in order to make an impact. It's really going to come down to the songwriting. They have to hit fans with such a great collection of tracks, and such a great vocal performance from whoever the new singer is that people a) love the new material, b) can picture the old material still translating well live, and c) most importantly, don't feel like either the band or Warrell Dane's legacy are being tarnished. It's a tough row to hoe as they say. Again, time will tell. I truly hope all the elements align though, as I think those guys still have a lot in them to give. They were a fantastic band once. With a bit of luck and good fortune they still could be again.

    There are many talented singers.
Warrel is irreplaceable, but I still think they can find someone who would fit the bill nicely, like the singer from Silver Talon.

Nevermore / Sanctuary one of the few all time favourites, elite songwriting and performance ahead of their time, the only bands I've got every albums they have released so far. Hopefully the next NM vocals will be as fitting range & tonewise as Todd La Torre was / is replacing Geoff Tate. Also expecting more of the extended intricate instrumental parts style in songwriting approach that makes Nevermore unique. P.S Waiting for the next Jeff Loomis solo album as well

I have to disagree. He is a very good singer with an extraordinary range. Of course having the range is one thing and capturing the feeling of Dane is another. For me no one can sing like him. We will see who will have to fill Warrel’s big shoes…
