- South Cambridgeshire district council ran a trial and independent analysis of that trial showed it had major benefits.
There are now calls for a nationwide trial.
The principle is a shorter working week, with no loss of pay and no reduction in productivity. So should it become the standard for everyone?
Or would it be unfair on those who can't make it work for them, like hospitality workers?
Interestingly, the supermarket chain Asda has scrapped its plans to implement a four day week because they were just trying to condense the hours which left staff working 11 hours a day - and they were exhausted.

Some companies operate a 4 on 4 off rotas, so you'd have to define a 4 day week, some professions may need to start working weekends to accommodate a 4 on 4 off work pattern to get a 4 day week.
Absolutely 4 day week abd half-day Fridays were people get ready for the weekend by getting ready to get drunk by clocking off at 1pm and spent morning by checking emails and social media
I hope trades get to work the four day week and see how many houses get built
a lot of them do a 4 day week. building sites are always empty on fridays
They didn’t pilot manufacturing shop workers manual labour just those who worked in offices . Rubbish that it saved on childcare most of it is now free
